I never thought I would see you retire the Glock 23. I feel a bit sad, lol, but I totally agree with your logic. Keeping it simple is the safest way to be. The Glock 23, for me, will always be the most versatile of all Glocks. I love my 23, but I love my 19 as well. I totally get it.

automatic slim 1027 it’s all personal preference I personally will never carry a 9mm I’m awkward the 40 recoil helps me shoots faster and I can put shoots on top of each other with a 40 I can’t do that with a 9 only 9mm that I have shot that I was accurate with was a glock 19 gen 4 but my fns 40 will always be top dog for me
@tayallen7986
@tayallen7986 5 жыл бұрын
automatic slim 1027 never said the more recoil the more accurate I shoot im saying the recoil impulse from the 40 helps me shoot better than the recoil impulse of a 9mm & I’ve owned Rugers I still own a Ruger sr9c & a Ruger sr40 full size my girlfriend carry the sr9c and I shoot both and the sr40 is more accurate in my hands but my fns 40 is more accurate IN MY HANDS than both but to say one cartridge is more accurate than the other is stupid

@tayallen7986 5 жыл бұрын
automatic slim 1027 your just not a accurate shooter with a 40 and that’s fine 40 cal isn’t for everybody some ppl prefer 44 magnum over anything and they can shot pin holes in anything with it and it recoils more than both doesn’t mean it’s more accurate than 40 or 9 it’s just more accurate in there hands
@KSTrekker
@KSTrekker 4 жыл бұрын
Same here. I shoot my G27 consistently better than any of my Glocks in 9mm. Can I shoot faster? No. More accurate? Probably not. But I typically have more stray rounds with 9mm because I'm trying to go too fast. 40 makes you slow down. There are so many videos out there now from many different KZbinrs where it's more about making the steel ring than real shooting. We should all train to stop the threat, not see how fast we can do a mag dump. I'm less concerned about a flat shooting 9mm that doesn't stop the threat than I am about placing 1 or 2 well-placed shots that stops the threat in his tracks.Caliber preferences aside, the 9mm will always be inferior to the .40 S&W, it's just physics. It does not deliver the same muzzle energy.

Glock 23 was my first gun. Bought it in 1999 on a lark after my buddy bought a gun. I think my total time spent "researching" was 5 mins reading the covers of gun magazines in a grocery store. All these years and 7 guns later, it's still far and away my favorite gun. It's the gun next to my bed at night. It's the gun I take in the car on trips. There's smaller guns I slip in my pocket when I head to the liquor store at night. There's bigger guns I take to the range to blow off steam. But when I really feel like I may wind up in trouble, when I'm making a cash transaction in the Home Depot parking lot, or when I'm checking the house at night it's ALWAYS the Glock 23. I love everything about the gun and I will NEVER sell it.

In California, considering the 10 round maximum capacity law, the .40 feels like a better deal because 10 rounds is not that far from the "real" maximum capacity in the rest of the country. Buying a 9mm gun in California with 10 maximum rounds while in the rest of the country same gun can have 17 rounds kinda sucks, no matter how awesome the gun is.

I so totally understand wanting to settle on a particular caliber. I'm new to this and buying all equipment for pistol and carbine storage, carrying cleaning and all the accessories, the last thing I wanted to do was to deal with multiple ammo. So I settled for a 9mm pistol and carbine. My choices were S&W SD9VE and KelTec Sub 2000 gen2. I figured it was a nice beginner round and not something I'd have to worry about gumming up the equipment and potentially getting bored with a 22LR and not something that would tire the wrist after a long day at the range.

Wow! 1500 is a highway robbery!!! The license in Italy is called "porto d'armi". There are 3 types: Hunting, self defense and sporting one. In order to get the license you have to ask for it to your central police station, they check your police record (you must have not a criminal record), if you are ok then you get a specific medical visit to guarantee you are not drug or alchool addicted, and you have not mental or phisical disorders. Then you have to perform a practical test at a shooting range. They give you a kind of certificate attesting you are able to handle firearms safely. If all of this is ok, you bring medical and shooting range certificates to the police station and they give you the license within 1 to 2 months. Of course there are some taxes to pay, but is not that much. I hope I was clear enough. Sorry for my bad english

Its now december of 2020 I just purchased my 1st glock 22 and have a new found love of the 40 S&W cartridge! Ive been shooting 9mm in all of the many handguns I own and never felt like I needed to get a 40 S&W pistol. As everyone knows 2020 has made people question once again having some diversity in the firearms and calibers they have. I feel like I shoot my G22 better than most of my Subcompact 9mm handguns. So I'm now looking for the 23 or 27. Since I can find 40 S&W for under $25.00 a box and 9mm is approaching $50.00 a box, I'm gonna continue collecting ammunition and looking for some different size firearms for this great cartridge! #Hickok45forPresident

Vincent Slone Yup... Most people base the 9x19mm is just about "as good as" theories on Corroners findingns that they can't tell the difference in the corps they work on. But no one has had to shoot a corps in self defense, that I know of. A living animal reacts different to gun fire than a corps. And in my mind I can't figure out why should I go with "as good as" rather than the best tool... All the rest is marksmanship related. Train with it untill you master it and then keep on trainning. Just saying

Vincent Slone, Ive seen that video and it was pretty eye opening. Im still not a believer in the 9mm. The 9mm makes sense for a newer shooter or somebody who is not that into guns. As Paul Harrell demonstrated, a practiced shooter can shoot the 40 as effectively as the 9mm. I think the 40 is the perfect round for a semi auto. Same energy levels as a 45 but in a smaller frame with more ammo. It is a little snappy but its not that big of a deal. A lot of people dont tealize that the 155-165 are actually packing 357 Mag energy levels. The 155 gr Gold Dot is rated at 1200 fps. About the same energy as the classic 158 gr 357 Mag load.

The reason that the Glock 23 and the .40 were so popular years ago was largely due to some real deficiencies in the 9mm ammunition we had at the time. The .40 didn't get worse. the 9mm just got a better. There are shooters today just getting into handguns who were not shooting or carrying back in the days of legitimate 9mm shooting failures. They have no idea why we went to the .40 in droves, or clung to our .45's for so long. The .357 SIG was born, perhaps five years too late, to address the same issues. Had Federal law enforcement authorities spent half of the effort to improve the 9mm as they did in justifying and developing the .40, the .40 would probably not exist. But back then, the order of the day was "and now for something completely different". But I'm now in the same place as you. My .40's are "semi-retired".

Tom Crawford I find it funny how people say their has been improvements in 9mm technology to make it so much better but act like 40 is still the same as its first rendition. every bullet has been improved in the last decade. Sounds like you have girly little wrists and need to justify your inability to handle any recoil.
@PPISAFETY
@PPISAFETY 7 жыл бұрын
Like Hickok, I competed with the .40 for years, owned my own range, carried a .40 on police duty, and taught with it, and I need not justify anything to you. People like you with your snarky comments make it very difficult to offer anything positive in a KZbin comment. Congratulations, I hope that made you feel better about yourself. I was merely offering historical context on the reason the .40 was invented and was popular for two decades. Of course the .40 has been improved and is a fine cartridge. But the consensus of opinion these days is that the 9mm is now "good enoough", and it probably is a better choice for minimally trained people, or old geezers like myself with arthritic hands from decades spent shooting guns in calibers that start with a four. Nothing prevents you or anyone from still using and enjoying your .40 caliber weapons. Good day, Sir.
@crackerassfantastic7083
@crackerassfantastic7083 7 жыл бұрын
Tom Crawford.First you got triggered because i said you got girly wrists if that is enough to hurt your feelings the internet is the wrong place for you. Second 9mm is for women, beginners, and children, or deep concealment. To say that 9 and 40 are the same is disingenuous. You really think ammunition technologists only worked on 9mm? They have all improved so the gaps between them have pretty much stayed the same. Maybe if you compared the lightes shittiest 40 you could find and the hottest 9 they might be close but that is comparing apples to oranges. Most choose 9 because they are to rookie to handle any recoil or are to cheap to buy any thing but 9. Third just by the simple fact that 40 is much better than 45 at hard barrier penetration and holds a much higher % of its original bullet mass than 9mm after barrier penetration its superior. When you are shooting at gel or paper it might look the same but in real world applications like plate glass, sheet metal, or wooden doors 9 does not hold hold the same power on the other side. Im not saying 9 is antiquated every caliber has a place and purpose and im glad atleast here in america we have such choice, but i think it is absurd to say that 40 is.
@PPISAFETY
@PPISAFETY 7 жыл бұрын
Perhaps you might re-read my comment. At no point did I say that the 9mm and the .40 were "the same". Like the video says, there are differences and the .40 is marginally more effective. But that effectiveness comes at a cost of a steeper learning curve for recruits, increased weapon wear, and increased costs. Given that the 9mm has seemingly crossed the threshold of acceptability for most uses, many agencies and individuals choose not to pay those costs for the marginal increase in performance. I'm almost certain that your statement that "9mm is for women, beginners, and children" will come as a huge surprise to quite a few very dangerous men who have used it with success. Perhaps they were just getting in touch with their feminine sides, or connecting with their inner child. Who knows? Clearly they weren't "man enough" to shoot your .40 by your estimation. Having personally been a part of professionally done law enforcement wound ballistics workshops conducted by Federal agencies and ammo manufacturers, including barrier penetration tests, I would cheerfully carry a 9mm, a .357 SIG, a .40, or a .45 on police duty today, were I working again, so long as I got to choose the ammo. Such was not the case in 1990 when the .40 was introduced, and for many years thereafter, so I carried a .40 as did a lot of us. Sorry if you felt "triggered", to use the parlance of the millennial snowflake, by what you perceive as me being critical of your cartridge. That wasn't my intention.
@flyingplumber226
@flyingplumber226 7 жыл бұрын
Tom Crawford I agree with you 100%. If someone was wanting a round that performs and has a ballistic advantage worth speaking about over the 9mm, they should look at the .357 sig, 10mm or some .45/.45 super. The difference between 9 and .40 is so marginal it's not worth all the negatives that come with the round. Recoil, cost, wear and tear on gun, slower follow up shots, and the list goes on as you know. People always want to "jump the gun" and say 9mm fans are trashing .40 and saying it's in incompetent round. I have never heard anyone say that. And when people talk about technological developments in bullets, yes both 9mm and .40 gained these developments. But everyone needs to go back and look at the numbers these rounds have. The safe max pressure is still the same for both rounds, but with modern hollow points, the 9mm traveling faster then the .40 has more advantage then it once did. The expansion and penetration that one can get from a 9mm hollow point today is more then it used to be. Bigger is not always better.9mm +p has a higher max safe pressure then .40. And this is due to the size of the round/case. The .40 being larger has more surface area that can blow out.
