From a self defense standpoint, Lucky Gunner tested every 22 mag round they sell in ballistic gel, and the Hornady Critical Defense penetrated over 12" and expanded to .37 inch diameter, out of only a 2" barrel. You can expect a fair bit more inches of penetration from a longer barrel like in the KelTec here. Those are very respectful numbers of penetration and expansion, especially when you consider you have 30 rounds of it.

30 rounds of 22 wmr ballistic tip in a lightweight semiautomatic is intriguing. Definitely has potential. I'd want to play around with ammo and oil and learn it's likes and dislikes before carrying of course. I carry a p11 at a job that doesn't allow self defense so a sub compact concealable 9mm 11 round pistol the size of a derringer is incredibly desirable. Sao with recessed hammer and an incredibly heavy trigger that means you really have to want to shoot it to shoot it, trigger is the safety and it's good enough. Nobody is going to exert 20# over 2+" by accident. If you've ever shot a p11 you'll understand that there has absolutely never been a negligent discharge with that gun.

You make a very valid point I just came from another video and the firearm being used was the PMR 30 but it wasn't the proper weight of bullet. And I don't think he was really gripping it like he should have been. All the Glock fuck boys said Kel-Tec was garbage never buy that blah blah blah blah and I guarantee you not one of them has ever fired this particular model of firearm. Part of my language. When I am shooting and something goes wrong with the gun I stop and think okay what happened how did it happen how do I correct this? A lot of the times it's the brand or the weight of the ammo. One of my ex-girlfriends had a Remington 1100 semi-automatic shotgun you couldn't fire anything lighter then number six through it it was a jammatic all the time. But you know there's so many people that don't own the gun they never fired it but they seem to be professionals. The gentleman in this video he's the professional. I agree with you 110% with your comment you are spot on. 🙏🙏

So far this gun with the 4 mags I have run like a champ. I hope to get better videos soon with all kinds of reactive targets at various ranges. I'm stuck with my crappy iPhone videos for now. I've owned my PMR-30 for about two years now. I do carry it, with an extra magazine. I practice extensively at bullet placement, due to the shell size. My thought on carrying this weapon is based on a simple concept. I am a novice at getting shot at! 1. I've never been in a gun fight, and all articles and videos on the subject point out that getting shot at changes your perspective. Most people only hit about 20% of the time. 2. Most simple robberies are done with a single hand gun. If I only hit 20% and they only have 15 shells, their's will go click before I run out. I also carry an extra magazine.
@sporkstar1911
@sporkstar1911 8 жыл бұрын
+Michall sounds good. But the thing about a fight is the adrenaline, and needing to move and get behind cover, and being real hesitant to even put your hand around the corner lest you be shot. So shot placement - you're not going to be able to aim at all unless you have one of those "moments of clarity" like soldiers have described where time moves real slow. Since you have 30 your best plan should probably be "Point, 5 rounds rapid". With less recoil your followup shots will be more accurate than theirs and even the inaccuracy of it will be to your aid much like a shotgun. Also the .22wmr does hit rather hard, about like a 5.56 at 200 yards. If you can Sting them with even one shot it may make them run for it.
@Unreelme
@Unreelme 6 жыл бұрын
closer to 556 at 450 or 500 yards. 22 mag out of pistol is different than 22 mag out of a 24 inch barrel. About 200 ft lbs is probably the max out of a 4-5 inch barrel

The bad guy isn't going to stick around while you are sniping at him. He went from offensive to defensive. Oh, you might trick him with the old, "Oh Sh-t, I'm out of ammo" after you shot 10 times and if he is stupid enough to break cover to finish you off then he is stupid enough to get ventilated with 10 of the 20 remaining rounds of 40 grain HP's, saving the last 10 for any of his buddies.

A lot of people discount the .22 Magnum just because it's a "22" but a .22 WMR can be a VERY effective if used properly. Hell, even a plain old .22lr can be effective in the same regard. An M4 is just a .22 caliber rifle, albeit a heavier bullet with more gunpowder, but at the end of the day it too is just a .22 caliber. I used to use .22 WMR rather extensively and found it to be a rather powerful, effective round, and it's far more capable than many realize... especially a *30-round* magazine of it :)

The action is actually a hybrid blowback/locked-breech system. It automatically and seamlessly adjusts between locked-breech and blowback operation, depending upon the pressure generated by the particular cartridge that is being fired. The barrel is allowed to float forward and backward a small amount in the frame, with no mechanical locking system. The method of operation is determined when the cartridge case fire forms to the chamber during firing. If the pressure generated in the cartridge is high enough, friction will cause the case to "stick" to the chamber walls, and the barrel will recoil with the slide until pressure drops-just like a typical locked-breech firearm. If the pressure is lower, the barrel stays virtually still, and the slide recoils like a blowback firearm. This innovative system does not require chamber-friction reducing methods like fluting or porting as seen in other .22 WMR autoloaders. It allows the PMR-30 to fire a wide variety of ammunition without sacrificing reliability.

What a amazing gun! Ive owned rifles all my life, and now married with 2 kids. We are finally looking for a 1st Pistol. And this Kel-Tec is definitely the one. I mean, it is light weight! 30 rounds, and a 22magnum. This pistol has more velocity at 100 yards than a 22 Long rifle does at the muzzle. That is simply amazing, and nothing less! Only positive things can be said for this gun. And it looks fun to shoot! And a 22 Magnum, is simply powerful! Should be more than enough stop power for personal defense! And if not.. You got 30 rounds to go! Haha. Great gun! Great Video. You sold me on it! Now im going to go buy one! Thanks!

The new one is identical to the first and shoots to point of aim out to 25 yards. I have finally gotten used to the 9lb. trigger pull and it does not bother me any longer. It functions just fine and is an every day carry wepon.

Ten years after Mr.Hickok did this review,I am seeing it for the first time. I just want to thank KelTec for giving Mr.Hickok a fun day shooting. I have never seen him rapid fire an auto pistol like that and laugh so much when he finished doing it. Mr.Hickok is more the every shot counts kind of person. That was fun. Thanks Mr.Hickok and Keltec. Sadly, today 22 mag rounds cost almost as much as 9mm. But thirty rounds in a fun gun caliber that can kill coyotes,groundhog, and cans as well as give a bad guy a real bad day,that's a very desirable hand gun. I see that Keltec has worked on this gun and there is a specific aftermarket kit you can buy that comes with a mag loader too to further address any jam issues this gun may develop. Thirty rounds....nice. Nice to see Mr.Hickok smiling after running this gun through it's paces. Even ten years later.

Thanks for the honest review. Much appreciated. Even if it's not 100%, it's still a very cool concept. 30rnd flush magazine? I mean, c'mon, that's awesome. And the .22mag isn't the worst round out there. I wouldn't exactly trust it, but hey, it's better than nothing. And with the ammo relatively cheap, you can shoot it enough to actually find out just how reliable it is. Then you can decide from there if its worthy of being a carry/home defense pistol.

I know this is a fairly old video, but I just spotted it. I hurt my neck a number of years ago, and can't take a lot of recoil anymore -- but I refuse to give up my self-defense capability. I carry a PMR-30 in a shoulder rig with a double mag pouch under the other arm. I know I'm trading kinetic energy out for kinetic energy felt, but with 30 rounds, I can afford to peck at someone if I have to in order to stop a threat. At least he may decide to run away rather than keep getting shot.

It's a crapshoot, really. The .22WMR is a hot round, but it doesn't mass a lot. Someone high on meth or angel dust might not feel it right away. Also, don't forget that bad guys aren't necessarily working solo. They might have friends, and you might NEED more than six or ten shots amongst a crowd of pissed off gangbangers or something.

Tanner Clark a shot to the head is not always a instant kill and hitting the brain stem in a gun fight is only in the movies. I work in the medical field and have seen people shot in the heart by .22 and not bleed out, it really depends on where you hit the heart. The .22 mag is good as a backup, but not a primary CCW. You want a round that hits hard and creates a large wound to stop a threat quickly.

I had several malfunctions, and began trying to load the mags to only 20-25 (30% defeating the Purpose of this gun. I also began trying to decide if it hated ammo at the shot #2 or #28 mark. a very expensive endeavor during the O administration with a ammo shortage going on. I might revisit the idea, now that prices are better, and well broken in examples abound.

I am a Huge fan of the 22 WMR, my girlfriend also loves it due to the low recoil combined with the huge muzzle blast and flash compared to the 22lr, and over the course of 7 to 8 thousand rounds we have had zero failure to fires with the hornady critical defense in 22 wmr, even after carrying the same 6 rounds in her revolver for over a year they fired first try. And I love it for small game like rabbits 1400 fps out of a 6.5in barrel with a 45 grain bullet that mushrooms every time, can't hardly beat it for what it is.
