I just got a beautiful Winchester model 12, made in 1940 in 16 gauge, modified choke, 30 in barrel for just a hair under $300. Somebody wasn't paying attention at the auction! Had an original plug in the tube for waterfowl, which I removed but kept. I have a Mossberg 500 and two Stevens "double hump" 520's, all fine guns, but nothing beats the Winchester 12 for elegance and smoothness of operation.

I have a Model 12 made between 1942 and 1952. My brother traded a Ford convertible in 1967 for it. Has a 24 inch barrel with vented rib accompanied by a polychoke. Beautiful engraved forearm. The previous owner was a gunsmith. My brother shipped the gun to my dad through the military. My father never owned a shotgun other than a one pipe or double barrel until then. He fell in love with the Winchester Model 12! It became his favorite hunting tool. He said if he had a five dollar bill for every rabbit, squirrel, pheasant or coon he killed with that gun, he would always have a Cadillac on the driveway! After the old man passed away, my brothers and I still use that Model 12! I start every small game hunting season with the old man's pump gun. Every time I reach into my gunsafe, get to touch something that he used and loved faithfully. Long live the hunting sports. And long live the men and women who keep it alive.

got one built in 1914, it was my great grandfathers, 30 inch full choke, I actually found it in a hallway closet is terrible shape, no foregrip wood, cracked stock held together with nails and some type of tape so worn and old it felt like leather. no tube cap with a bulged barrel. I did a partial restoration, keeping as much as i could and had to cut the barrel down. I took a ton of pics and showed it to ny grandpa and share it with all 6 of his brothers. I would not stop gettting calls asking if they could get their hands on it haha. love that gun, the heft and patina on it, literally holding history. a fond memory of this gun, altho may be trivial to some. I inherited one of these from my grandfather, and while not a gun collector I had no real use for it. so I traded it for a 40. cal EAA...which it turned out I HATED...moral of the story, I'm not a gun collector so the shotgun was an end to a means... but it taught me a valuable lesson...as to what I like to shoot and what my personal preferences are. from that lesson I learned for me, I love shotgun sports and don't like anything over 9mm for a hang gun. which isn't too exciting, but for many knowing these things will save you ALOT of money.

Depends on a person's shooting experience. A really experienced shooter can generally coordinate the trigger and pump well enough to actually shoot as fast and more accurately without slam firing. The weird thing about slam firing is that you are essentially using the pump as your trigger, which makes for fast firing but mediocre control.
