A Taurus employee is one of the best gunsmiths in Brazil? That’s just sad. Taurus is a terrible company from a consumer perspective. If. If they hadn’t taken a running Beretta line and refused to tel the employees it’s not Beretta’s show anymore they couldn’t even make a semi functional knockoff. Never forget the mellinium.

You have shown almost all of the superior features with your usual grace and clarity! A great gun is a joy to behold! I had one of the earliest ones from the early Nineties with no decocker, with a forged anodized aluminum frame and a blue steel slide. IT WAS SUPERB IN ALL WAYS! It never failed in any way with any ammo! The sights were small but just fine, and the pistol was accurate, pointing very naturally. The only changes from current Berettas is that the chrome lined bore was dispensed with as not needful for civilian service, and they put the manual safeties IN THE RIGHT PLACE and switching IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION like a civilian needs, not a policeman. I shot it a lot for a decade and it showed NO WEAR AT ALL as I simply kept it lubed!. I carried it IWB inside a tight wide belt and did not mind the weight at all. I changed it to a wrap-around finger-ridged textured rubber grip from Bianchi, and it seemed to melt into my hand! I wish I still had it, but had to trade it for rent in desperate times............................elsullo

Taurus did the same thing with the Smith and Wesson factory in Brazil that made the S&W 686. They bought the entire factory, tooling and all and started to make the Taurus 669 (non vent rib barrel) and the 689VR (vent rib barrel). I have one I bought back in 1988-89 in stainless steel, and it has been a flawless gun. No timing issues, nothing. There only issue that I had was the wood grips were not made well, and weren't aligned with each other so one side was a little off from the other. But an incredibly well made gun.

I worked in the hunting department in one of the big box outdoor stores for 10 years. We would have reps from different firearm companies come in periodically with new products. Taurus would bring new products out every year. They were very innovative in their development, for example, The Judge. I ask one of the reps why the Taurus 92 FS was so similar to the Beretta 92. His answer was almost verbatim to your episode. The only thing I would add is that Beretta didn’t want to expend time, money and manpower moving the machinery from Brazil back to Italy. So, to coin a phrase, “They made them an offer that they couldn’t refuse.” Sounds like an Italian thing! While many parts were interchangeable between the Taurus and Beretta, if I remember correctly, the magazines did not interchange. This is one of the best Taurus firearms.

I went in to buy it and the guy working the counter told me the guy that traded it in didn't want it because his brother killed himself with it. As I was wondering why this salesman would say this. I noticed the way he was looking at the gun and thought he wanted to buy it, so I told him I know it was lightly used and operates when needed. I sold it some years after and always regretted it. The first thing I didn't like about it was when I first stripped it down to clean and oil it I noticed the recoil spring was already starting to "walk" off the plastic guide rod! I put the Lakeline SS kit in it before I ever fired it and have had NO problems with it, although I'll admit I've put less than 200 rds through it. A mix of Speer 115gr FMJ, Federal HS and lately HST, but it runs consistently with all of it. No failure to feed, nothing...

Wow, this brings back memories. Bought one of the PT 92's in all blued back in 1985 when they were being introduced to the US. It was a excellent pistol and my very first handgun purchase. Well built and shot wonderfully. Never had FTF, stove pipes or any sort of malfunction AND it was inexpensive so right in a G.I.'s budget. In the 1990's I bought the Taurus PT 101 in .40 and the same exact finish and configuration as in your video except no rail underneath. Great gun as well with never an issue also. Some think their products suck and maybe some do but I've had nothing but a good experience with guns I've bought. Furthermore, I actually sold a S&W stainless .38 to go buy a stainless .357 Taurus which I was also happy with as the trigger was much smoother in DA than the S&W. Back in the late 80s and early 90s, I was an FFL holder. The only Taurus firearm I ever sold, was a clone of the S&W model 19, double action revolver. I sold it to a local police officer, who was going to carry it as his service weapon. However, he brought it back to me, telling me that the spent cases were getting stuck in the cylinder. I checked it out, and sure enough, the cases were jammed and showed signs of overexpansion. My brother was a machinist, so I had him check the cylinder. He discovered that the holes in the cylinder were drilled to large, allowing the cases to overexpand and get stuck. The brass showed stress cracks. Since this officer's life depended on this weapon, I refunded his full purchase price. I then sent it back to the manufacturer, expecting them to send me a replacement. However, all they did was to replace the cylinder, making this a used firearm. So.......I had to sell it as a used firearm, losing quite a bit of money. This left a bad taste in my mouth for Taurus firearms and I never sold another one.
@pb68slab18Күн бұрын
Same experience. Taurus revolvers were so bad right out of the box, we stopped selling them. The triggers were horrible and would often stick back! I pulled the sideplate to find burrs and even chips. Springs were even worse. Dealing with Taurus warranty and customer cost us time and money! For people that wanted to order one, we had a disclaimer that if they had any problems with it, it was their problem, and their responsibility to ship it back and deal with Taurus warranty and customer service. Their 92-series was popular and sold well. Had a few come back with cracked locking blocks from firing some black-tip Israeli SMG ammo that was going around. Even said for SMG use only, not for use in handguns!

Once I had three ruptured cases in one cylinder in my Taurus revolver, and that was only .38SPL :-(. It seems as they got the imperial/metric sizing wrong (?). Agreed, I've owned G2s and G3s and never had a single malfunction with either. May not be the best trigger in the world but it's absolutely not the worst.

I am a gun shooting enthusiast for decades. A RO at my club. Saw folks bring in more and more Taurus, like the GX4 and ended up purchasing one. I did a 1,000 rd review a few years ago and it was "Stellar" performer. And still is. Taurus has really turned things around. Actually amazing on how they have done this. Producing some fine guns in all categories. Bravo to Taurus, my hat is off to them.

I've got a PT-99 (adjustable sights, pre-decocker) I bought in the late 1980s.I used it for more than 5 years in USPSA shooting (back then, Ernie Hill actually made a "speed leather" holster for it.) It only jammed one time in over 10,000 rounds (see below.) It was a fantastic pistol, though I'm now having an issue, it seems that the aluminum frame has worn around the magazine catch, which allows it to rotate, and block magazines from dropping free, without first playing around with the magazine catch. The only 2 problems I ever had was the roll pin holding the rear sight came out, and one of the two locking lugs fractured, but that was because I was using loading data that I later learned was for SMG only loads, so it really wasn't the fault of the gun. In both cases, Taurus fixed the issues under warranty (of course, I never mentioned the reloads.)

I bought a Taurus PT92 in the mid '80s for $182 at Long's Drug store here in Central CA. One of several guns I wish that I still had. It was my very first 9mm handgun and it functioned flawlessly with whatever ammo I fed it.

I’ve got two of those from the late 80’s early 90’s. Never a problem with them. Recently updated my mags to mecgar mags and new springs.

It's always been ammo picky. Shoots fine with the American made ammo but some of the foreign stuff it has several FTF and FTE.

I'm from Brazil, I have one of this pistol. This model has no issues here.

I think it has a better safety. It's positioned on the frame instead of up on the slide so you can reach it easier. And you can carry it cocked and locked, de-cocked, or de-cocked and locked. Lots of ways to carry it for lots of different people's preferences.

This is my favorite feature of the Taurus, too. I really wish that Beretta had kept it on the 92F/FS. (Though side note: It is available for some of the 92 competition models, oddly enough.)

My buddy had one, it was great! I have a pt1911 that has had zero issues, my old taurus 66 was amazing. Some claim the pt92 uses better steel than beretta.

I bought my PT92 in 1993. Still got it still works. Never had an issue except with some after market magazines... even then it usually worked! My hands are smaller than yours so I'm happy with the reach. Most of my magazines are by Mecgar but I do have 17 shot Taurus magazines.

I have owned the PT92 for over 15 yrs and never had a malfunction. In fact I used that firearm for my CCW test. Great gun...

My brother had a pt92 which was his duty weapon in the early 90s. The ability to cock n lock was why he chose it since he was used to 1911's . He put several thousand rounds thru it without any major issues.

I bought an early model PT-92 in 1984. It was a very good pistol. Reliable and accurate. But it had no hammer drop safety, so no way to absolutely safely lower the hammer down to carry one in the barrel. I eventually traded it in and bought a Beretta M9A3, which I find to be a great pistol, and safer to load with "one in the pipe".

I have had a PT 99 for over 30 years and have never had a problem with it. Good gun over all although my favorite is my Glock 30Gen4. Best of holidays to everyone and a BIG thanks for all the videos you two!!!

92 and the older 85 are great choices. 92 is a Beretta with the frame safety similar to Beretta before moving the the safety to the slide. Perfered the PT 92 because of that.

The PT-99 (same pistol but with adjustable sights) which I bought back in the late 80s is still going strong today after around 5,000 rounds through it. No jams and not choosey about ammo, shoots any 9 mm I've fed it.

That is indeed one handsome pistol for a Beretta, let alone a Taurus.

I bought a PT92AF new in '88, from believe this or not... WALMART. PMC fmj in the camo box was $3 a box and then I bought a little Lee progressive press to reload that brass. Shot about 5k rounds thru it and the tilting lock block broke an ear off. Called Taurus and they shipped a replacement part to me fast and no fuss. Still have this pistol, one of my favorites to this day, although I limit it to range fun bc I can't trust that tilting lock block for edc, but she runs like a song.

I had a PT 72 in the 80's. All black with wooden grips and no mount on the receiver for a lazer sight or flashlight. Half the price of a Baretta for excellent results. I could also swap the mag release to suit my left handed shooting. An excellent weapon in all respects.

We have a PT-99 which is the adjustable sights version. It is a phenomenal pistol, much better than the Beretta not only because of the sights but also because it can be carried cocked and locked.
@jb60272 күн бұрын
The PT-92 was popular with several shooters in my IPSC club in the 1980s. The single action feature was a plus, and there was a version with an adjustable rear sight which allowed the owners to fine tune their point of impact. Curiously, sitting through the many matches, waiting for one's turn to shoot, it became evident that the Taurus shooters were having noticeably fewer pistol malfunctions than the Beretta 92 shooters. There were even a couple of members who switched from Beretta to the Taurus PT-92 for better reliability. The Beretta 92 has come a long way since, but it would still never by my choice for a carry pistol.
