Seen something different in a acre or so corn field to bring in fresh corn for multiple weeks to local market. Hand cut the top of stalk first ear , then middle, then bottom over a month. With small fields planned at different times. For warm states . Even if only have one crop , saves from doing all work at one time. Great Jesus story also.❤

You have planted more than one variety of corn, which is wind pollinated. (Billy’s bees😳😂🤣😂🤣🤪) How far apart do you plant the varieties to keep them pure for seed saving? Y’all take whatever time y’all need to take care of what’s important, and the most important thing is FAMILY. We will wait patiently and prayerfully until you get back to us. Many blessings to y’all.

Distance isn't the only separation, right? Separating over Time is just as effective. A successful method we use ievery season is when planting multiple varieties, plant them such that they are tassling / pollinating at the different Times. We start with our Roy's Calais /Abanaki (a very early (colder tolerant) short season variety (selected over decades by us for the earliest germinating, earlient maturing (dried and ready to pick at about 85/90 days)). Then wait 2 to 3 weeks and plant the longer, full season Hickory King. The Calais will have fully formed ears (not dry yet, but completely done pollinating) before the first tassle appears on the Hickory King. We plant in plots right next to each other. The only separation being our 10 feet of mowed grass separating plots. Zero cross pollination over the decades.

We've been growing Hickory king for a couple years now and really like the variety. It makes some of the best whole ear ground steer feed we have ever used. Good morning Justin. Thank you for your response. I will be honest with you, I have never planted corn before. That being said I would need enough for a small family garden. I was studying some articles on what is needed for a small family but that didn't really help with amount needed, at least for me 😊. I would think maybe enough to produce for a family of 4 to 6. Please let me know cost and mailing cost and I will send it to you. Also, have you ever made a smaller family size mill? Just curious 🙂.

Hey looks like some family went south from New York instead of south west. I’m growing a row of hickory king and peaches and cream this year. With my buckwheat.
