My granny would can green beans without a canner. She would string, snap, and wash them. Then you would take 1 heaping gallon of beans and cook in a brine of 1 quart of water, 1 cup of vinegar, 1/2 cup of sugar, and 1/4 cup of salt for 20 minutes. You pack the heated jars with the cooked beans and ladle the brine over the top to the shoulder of the jar. There will be just enough brine to cover 4 quart jars. Place a lid on them and set them on the counter like you do with your pickle recipe. To cook you would open the jar and pour off the brine, bring them to a boil with fresh water and pour that water off. You then cover with more fresh water and cook with side meat. Edit to add: she would measure the heaping gallon in a plastic gallon tea pitcher, heaped over the top.

question: i have had the idea of using a box fan with the air blowing straight up across the bean pods while they were setting on the grate of the fan and maybe two feet of space between the floor and the fan for air flow, do you think this would work if i could keep the bean pods from falling into the fan or off the grate of the fan? question 2: do you think this would be alot quicker than just hanging? seems like it would.
