@banjobro64Ай бұрын
I recognize that you cannot eliminate 100% of the reviewer's subjective bias but generally I cannot agree with your argument. That IGN reviewer was quite aware that the game is "not bad" (by his own admission) and he is generally quite loose with high scores. He didn't respect even his own standards. Every webiste including IGN has certain published scoring guidelines that are supposed to be homogenous among all reviewers. The existence of a score itself is a categorization that expects to encpsulate some kind of objectivity. A review is supposed to be a professional judgment, not a personal experience. The reason why there are certain "wrong" reviews is for two reasons imho: 1) professional reviewers are forced to rush the game and they are playing so many other titles at the same time they can barely keep up 2) sometimes they just clickbait (not always of course, otherwise this strategy doesn't work)

I personally do not like the newer games that they are making. Mario and Luigi brothership has more negative than positive. I 100% every single Mario and Luigi RPG. Let’s talk about the positive of the game. The battle system was improved and it’s one of the best. It has good character designs and unique mechanics with Luigi. One of the few biggest disappointment I had was the boring storyline and the map designs were not creative with the lack of new enemies. I felt like the game gave me more boring side quests and puzzles than the main story gameplay. The game only has few extra bosses for experienced players to tackle on and the rest is just not challenging enough. I just felt that the game needed improvement on the main story and map designs. People that loved this game will not understand how good the other RPG were and comparing to other RPG from the past, this game does not stand out at all. I do give the developers enough credit for trying to make this game work. I will give this game a solid 7/10.

this game seemed to have had a good bit going against it before the reviews came out. mario rpg fatigue had no doubt set in, as we already saw with ttyd, and no matter the quality it's taking a risk by having a new developer (with a few veterans) make an original game, compared to two remakes. whether or not it stands up to previous entries, it's going to be a bit different, and when you're not blowing people away like with botw, that can be a turnoff for fans. and you *have* to get the approval of fans, because in a case like this, i think the potential upside lies mostly in attracting other core-ish users (a la metroid dread), not so much the general public when considering the overload of mario games lately. i know we're in the midst of a holiday season, so that'll help, but i think even the best-case scenario was always that it would sell worse than mario rpg. i hope nintendo take these factors into account, though, not so much blame the game itself, or regardless give the team another chance, with their acquired experience, in a more favorable position schedule-wise (if kadokawa aren't bought out by sony.. like you said though maybe nintendo will still keep pursuing the series)

For anyone interested, I’ve played Brothership for over almost 35 hours. I can’t say how far I am into the game but it seems to me that I’m about halfway in. Overall, I have enjoyed the game immensely. Sure, it’s not perfect but the enjoyment I’ve had with the game has eclipsed its shortcomings. The writing took a long time to pick up but I like where it’s going right now. The combat has become much more challenging than it was during the first half. Overall, however, even at its lowest point, I never considered the game bad or boring. It was still really good. My thought is that the game happened to be much longer than critics wanted it to be. I review board games and I receive review copies from companies. With that written, I still buy my own games and truly love the hobby. I write this to say that I create videos at my pace. Some board games require a much greater time investment than others. Due to that, I space my video reviews accordingly. Video game reviewers from big sites have time constraints when reviewing games. They’re competing to be the first out the door to receive the most views possible. That, in my opinion, was and is the problem when it comes to the reviews of Brothership. I’m playing Brothership because I enjoy the series and I am playing it on my time and at my pace. Therefore, I get to soak in the experience and truly enjoy the adventure. Now, if I had to finish the game in less than a week, maybe my opinions would drastically be impacted, which is what I truly believe happened here. All this to say, if you are interested in this or any game, go for it. Experience it and come up with your own conclusions. Game on!

I remember there was a lot of hype around the metroid games back on the gamecube/wii era but the bad reception of other m put the franchise on a comma. Like a holywood movie realising poorly and having to wait 4-5 years to make another movie with the same ip.

5/10 is harsh in my opinion but it's 6 or 7 in my opinion. The game runs very badly and the loading times are ridiculous. This game screams for a stable fps 30 or 60 it doesn't matter as long as it's stable. Nintendo needs to patch this ASAP

To me it’s a stripped-down version of Super Mario RPG, a tried and true, wash-rinse-repeat Nintendo title. Nothing great, nothing terrible. Somewhere in the 7 to 8.5 range seems right.

This is what happened to TOTK imo. So much negativity by the pc fans with BG 3 and botw fans trashing tears for no reason. TOTK clears both but especially botw because it does everything better and with more things to do, again in my opinion

I may love TOTK, but seriously saying it's better than Baldur's gate 3 is just not true, tho I do respect your opinion. As for breath of the wild, I think the only thing that it has over TOTK is the overall story, eveb tho I didn't mind the sotry of TOTK has much as other people.

I don’t trust most reviews, especially “official reviews”. As official review sites and places are fake, if not rigged customers reviews as they sometimes delete people reviews to balance out the their narrative or their alignment. Heck I won’t even surprise by bot or fake reviewers. We don’t know the actual total sales and this is the holiday, so people are prepping for the holidays and we already had some good games that came out from the past 2 months like Zelda, Dragon Ball, and Sonic. So people wallet are a bit tight and saving up for the holiday. If I had to say this is that these offcial review site like ign and even metacritic the one that will have an impact ON THEMSELVES! People are less trusting to these sites, especially bio ware recent game that gotten so much heat that sales failed and customers were angry at them when those who trusted the reviews and not surprises here as many were bribe to make the review sound good and all know too well to these bait trick. They should focus on customers review (if possible. Hopefully not rigged) then official reviewers.

before I watch this video I want it said that, despite the IGN review, I still went into this game open minded, but it ended up disappointing me. and that sucks. I love the original four games and was hoping this revival would revive the identity that paper jam single-handedly murdered. this game does not achieve such. very rarely do I find myself speeding through dialogue but this game is so boring that I have no choice.

As someone who has played Mario & Luigi Bowser Inside Story (DS & 3DS versions) & luigi dream team there’s a few reasons I skipped Mario brothership - Reviews have been pretty bad - They overhauled the controls for Luigi for the worst… no longer feeling like the two are together but rather Luigi following Mario & sometimes not well - plus instead of controlling Luigi with B it’s not A & then B…. No thanks - bad timing release wise imo When it comes to timing I got the new Mario party to play with friends as my holiday title. Alongside a Black Friday pickup or two I’m done with buying new games for the year.. then there’s a slow period in the new yr where between a holiday game, Black Friday games & Christmas…. There’s a period in time where you’re good & chilling with your collection. Not to mention 2025 is the year of Switch 2 & the hype is focused on that & the first calendar year titles…

Critic reviews are garbage, have been for a while now. I'll wait until peer reviews come out from independent small reviewers. The game is a high 8.5 for me, it's a great game, lots of content, can play it at your own pace.

don't swear off reviews. Swear off numbers though jesus christ. If I could make review numbers illegal I would. THere is NO benefit unless you argue "I'm lazy and I don't want to think about things." High Scores do just as much damage, especially if you've bought a "well reviewed" peice of trash on Amazon without reading reviews.

Its sadly a mediocre game just like mario bros wonder. These games lack the nintendo magic. It’s hard to explain but I feel like bowsers inside story was a much better game in every aspect. Mario wonder was a good game but it doesn’t just have that feel of a game like mario bros ds. I don’t know whats wrong with nintendo but they need to start making interesting and atmospheric games again.

I'll be honest, it did have an effect on me. I've felt let down ever since Dream Team, so this one had a high bar to clear if it was to get me back into the series. I'd need to see it being praised as much as Bowser's Inside Story for me to care.

I've been seeking out (cherry picking) positive reviews about the game to make me feel better, but it doesn't really. I just wish they hadn't come out at all with any reviews and I could experience the game with my own unbiased opinion! Being human is tough.

In the past many reviews ruined me games, that I many years later play or I saw some essay or retrospective on those games and get annoyed on those reviews, that put my away from interesting games. Example: Pokken Tournament, the review talked about a shallow gameplay, but that was totally wrong. As I played it for the first time it was fun and interesting so I brought the DX version on the Switch. I experimented with the system and found I couple fun good combos. This game is a blast and one of my favourite fighting games. I only consult reviews, if I miss informations about a game or want to hear another opinion after I played it for my self. As I was younger I used them as a buy criterion. A error, that I will never do again, but also we get today much more informations about a game, if we want to buy it or not.
