I also restore furniture. Be sure to keep your workspace well ventilated and invest in a good respirator and replace the cartridges often. Working with solvents, finishes, and old dust is a considerable long-term risk. Love that two-tone dresser!

I 100% agree, that stuff can be really toxic. I am a woodworker and I have to cover up just from the sanding, I have had horrible allergic reactions to a species of wood I still haven’t been able to confirm. And with all my allergies, I don’t want to add any kind of lung disease to the mix. An allergic respiratory reaction can be horrible enough (had an asthma attack from mold once and never want to go through that experience again).

She did a fantastic job. And yes, I would leave the flaws in the mirror too, gives it more character and shows it's an old piece.

Love Miranda! I used to redo furniture also, but just for myself. I no longer have a place to do it. So, I've not redone anything in years. But I just love that you showed us all of it, from the furniture, the bottles, etc. I learned a few things! And I'm just so jealous of your work space and your tools!😁😻💜💜💜

In the UK now, people want old mirrors to have the flaws, if you resurface the mirror, it decreased the value. Personally, I don't understand why, but that's the market.
@rebeccan52006 күн бұрын
As an antique furniture purist, I felt sad when I saw the dresser toward the end. I know that's what people want nowadays, but someday someone will strip all that off and finish it with stain and matte poly, to look slightly more original. Tastes do change. I can remember the painting and "antiquing" that we did to beautiful oak pieces in the 60s and 70s. Then, in the 90s everybody was stripping all that off to refinish and unfortunately those pieces ended up looking new rather than antique because the patina was gone. I like using tung oil on pieces that need refinished and I try to sand as little as possible in order to keep a bit of that patina that often takes 100 years to form. I thought y'all did well with the mirror, even though I would not have spray-painted over the date. Next maybe look for a vintage light to put over the mirror rather than the modern one. I do enjoy your videos of digging bottles and also looking for arrowheads. That reminds me of my dad doing the same with us kids. He was an antique dealer, old school, we had a shop in our barn. He passed away in 1976, so well before ebay and FB marketplace. Keep up the good work.
