My guess is that Thoma originally from Fontaine or just has a French name because his parents decided to give him one. In French, the “S” in “Thomas” isn’t pronounced, so tōma/tooma/touma or alternatively Tohma/Thoma as a way of transliterating it from French to Japanese(トーマ) and then back into English makes sense. Also, in the French subtitles of the livestream, his name is left spelled as “Thomas” when he is introduced.

A little bit unrelated, but something I just noticed about the 2.0 livestream thumbnail is how the Shogun’s statue is surrounded by purple sakuras. They could be different flowers, but I find it ironic for her to be surrounded by sakuras since they symbolize both the beauty and short and fragile nature of life, contrasting the Shogun’s desire for eternity.

I think Thoma appearance is based more in a Japanese delinquent (idk how that kind of culture is called, sorry) they normally have for hair a pompadour or blonde color or both, the history of this kind of culture has relationship with WW2 because after the war Japan had to open more to foreign market, making a lot of American things come to the country, one of which was the rockabilly culture or whatever is called, mainly because of Grease and other things, some Japanese teenagers started copying this and the nationalist of Japan (Japan is a very nationalistic country) started calling them delinquents because they weren't japanese enough, at some point they really become this subculture that is tied to criminals even though it started at something innocent, other thing to note is that a lot of Japanese criminals really like to make clear they're criminals for example you can know when someone is from the Yakuza just by knowing their clothes and the same with the mention above. So I Think Thoma is a character who is against the Shogun possibly by the same reasons as Kazuha's friends and he makes clear his position using cultural things that are not from Inazuma, making him like a rebel which it's like their real life counterpart, and probably his personality would be like the majority of characters based around this movement being a guy that at the surface is very rough and tough but in the inside he has a good heart and wants to help people, just like for example Josuke from JJBA. Sorry if I made some mistake I'm not 100% sure of all of this and my language is not English but I'm very happy of giving my opinion about Thoma, which I hope to get him when he comes out, he looks very handsome.

I 100% agree with you here, blonde hair in "anime" games is also pretty common on half-japanese characters. So he could be either. The persona series is one of those that comes first to mind, where even though many characters have "weirder" hair colors the only ones that are ever talked about by other people in the games are the blonde ones, like Ryuji (delinquent) or Ann (Half Japanese, Half European).

for kokomi: i think her clothing design might be i inspired partly by japanese 羽衣 (hagoromo), mainly because of the sash on her back (ribbon). hagoromo is depicted in a lot of japanese folklore, worn by deities and women from the heavens. she also has the “two bunny-loop” hairstyle that a lot of them had as well. it reminds me of orihime (part of the tanabata story, which is also celebrated on 7/7) and an old story called 天女の羽衣. basically the story goes: a fisherman is bathing in the river when he sees the hagoromo (sash) hanging from a tree. entranced by the beauty, he goes to grab it. he is met by a 天女 (basically a woman frm the heavens) that asks him to return it, or else she can’t return home. idk if the “diety/heaven” type aspect has anything concrete to do w her character but i thought it was interesting (also the way they meshed it with oceanic elements)

Another detail I noticed was that behind Raiden/ Baal, there appears to be a ring linking several small mitsudomoe (or the electro symbol). This immediately put me in mind of Shinto god of thunder, Raijin (also known as Raiden :P). In his case, he has several taiko drums float around him, with the sound of thunder said to be his pounding of the drums. I really hope these detail makes it's way into the in game model when she becomes playable

He could probably be from Snezhnaya but grew up in or gained his vision while he was living in Inazuma. Wings appear on her back in her idle animations and burst and her burst description says: ”Sara departed from her people, the tengu, and also temporarily lost her faith in the Tenryou Commission. I've seen a post saying that several of the inazuma characters are inspired by Japanese yōkai, with Sangonomiya Kokomi being an Amabie, yōkai which come out from the sea, depicted as having long hair and shiny fish scales, and being human/fish with a beak, that ward off pandemics, Kujyou Sara being Tengu, Gorou being a Kitsune and Sayu being a Tanuki. Gorou and Sayu are very apparent to me and Kujyou Sara's Tengu inspo is also v clear after seeing this vid lol, i'm not too knowledgeable on Amabie myself however but its definitely something interesting to look into! Seeing how Kokomi descended from the sky like the rain though I do wonder if she has some superhuman abilities that would be rly interesting to explore! Overall im just super excited for these new charas and looking forward to ur videos on them :3 thanks!

Also they say that the first person from every place u meet represents the weapon they're archons use e.g Amber uses a bow like Venti, Xangling from liuye uses a spear like Zhongli and Baal would most probably be using a sword like Kazuha so the weapon Thoma is using is most probably the next archon's weapon or his country's archon's weapon, also his country will probably resemble America in that case

I feel Tohma will be a Pet-master class, utilizing Pyro-dog spirits in his combat. In the current web event, he is totally a dog lover, and his leaked model originally wore a arrowhead-like necklace, which has since been redesigned to a dog tag necklace. I feel this is a pun motivated redesign. (and probably one that will embolden head-cannon artists to ship gorou and tohma and up their sales with community based hype) As he works for Ayaka, he can probably also use these pyro-dog spirits to be a good pyro-applicator to pair with Ayaka so she can trigger melts.

There's a theory that my friend puts in the plate that Sangonomiya Kokomi is tied to Japanese myth of Koi fish that tries to overcome waterfall and turns into dragon when (or maybe after and not when? I forgot the exact one) it finally overcomes the waterfall. From that he also theorize that Kokomi can turn into the actual dragon in an implication that Koi fish is herself and the Sangonomiya resistance and the waterfall is Baal and the people that agreed with her. This is also fueled by the fact that there's no dragon in sight so far, only a dead snake as the closest. It seems that a pyro vision is important somehow in this trailer? Maybe tohma has a bigger role than we thought, since by the top of my head, he has a pyro vision, doesnt look Inuazuman, and in yaes dialougue bit it showed a pyro vision, in the short black and white scene it was a pyro vision the traveler reaches out for. Idk tho just speculation

I think the ears (?) on Kokomi's head is reminiscent of some depictions of 人魚 in Japanese myth as well. If you catch one and does not release it back into the sea, it can cause storms, and seeing a ningyo washed up on land is premonition of war, so I find that quite fitting.

The Thoma theory is actually correct, in the latest distant voyage web event theres a part where it has something on thoma (found it on an Instagram post and saved in photos) and it says that thoma isn’t from inazuma, directly corresponding to your theory. (I’m thinking he might be from Fontaine since that’s the only other region that would prolly fit since Natlan is indigenous America and sumeru is based off of South Asia, and definitely not snezhnaya (maybe) since so far sneznayahn characters wear significantly different clothing, but then again there’s scaramouche so that could also be incorrect, just based off of my reasoning tho
