He's completely neutral about helping the tieflings when they become imprisoned at Moonrise which is objectively a more dangerous place than a goblin-infested village. In act 1 especially, he's just outright terrified of everyone and everything. Through spending time with you, however, his confidence grows more and more.

It fits a neutral character to not side with the teiflings or the goblins and just do their own thing in this situation, especially if they're chaotic. Chaotic neutrals value their own personal freedom above pretty much anything else. I think it would be pretty outlandish for a vampire spawn slave that literally just got free to want to get in on a conflict that really doesn't involve him, especially with the mindflayer tadpole infection, whether they were good or not

​@@SaraL22 Yeah, that actually makes a lot of sense for Astarion to be chaotic neutral considering he also openly voices disliking goblins. He approves each time you instigate a fight with them as much as occasionally siding with them. I remember one instance where he disapproves if you show remorse towards an orphan goblin child while approving you getting on your knees for Crusher in order to "give him a nibble". He's a bit all over the place in act 1 and almost always after what benefits him or the party the most, wherever that benefit lies, regardless if it's on the side of the good guys or bad.

I love that Wyll's comment is intended to uplift Elegis amid her worries, to assure her that things _will_ be okay however grim they may seem. I romanced Will in the first playthrough, and then he just walked away with Carlah without even waving at me. I'm still offended (although after the epilogues were added, it turned out that the romantic connection still remained, but it didn't really fix the spoiled first impression). But I like him as a person, the most sensible one in this crazy fun company. And he has the most interesting gameplay sections within the framework of a personal quest (namely, an underwater ship and an Unsur)

For me, the main issue is that his story starts in act 1, resolves quickly one way or the other, then nothing happens until act 3. I like him as a character, but but the time I get to act 3 other characters have just done more to make an impression. Same reason I'm not super interested in Jaheira, actually. I haven't played the other games and she shows up in act 2 after I already have a solid team.

i always have astarion as my main companion. When my boyfriend and i were doing the yurgir quest together, our plan backfired and the only one left was astarion. he sniped everyone down one by one with just sneak attacks, then revived the whole party afterwards. It was glorious. Even better my boyfriend wasnt a fan Of him at first because he thought astarion was weak.

I found the goblin fight fairly easy once i stopped trying to get the story and just went in murking the first gobb i saw. So far i only played Balanced mode so maybe the higher modes will be tougher. I just went into the building and attacked the guards and stayed in the entrance picking Gut and the rest off. Was just Tav and Astarion, nobody else in my group. Technically I was able to summon a flaming ball and a floating weapon to help so i guess I had a 4 member team. The drow was the only one to be a real challenge because of her damn Hold Person spell.
