Hi Scotty, After world war 2 the GM Holden Australia, team got together and they decided that we could build our own cars and build them lighter. During the war the engineers not only assembled in Australia, cars, trucks, jeeps, and tanks but they also built planes and learned how to build them lighter and stronger without a solid frame. in 1948 they produced the Holden car without a solid frame and many thousands of Holden cars were built, none of them fell apart on our terrible roads. They were simple and one could always get home, fixing a problem with a piece of fencing wire. Ted from down under.

Nash/Ramblers. I believe the 232 Rambler American was much quicker than the six cylinder Ford Falcons. Pity that most people ran them into the ground and did not take care of them. I think engine tuning (idle,off idle and light cruise air/fuel ratio) was leaner than other car brands (most Ramblers including the V8s)making them more sensitive to keeping the ignition system in top shape or they would develop missing and hesitation.

You say they aren't made for towing, but the Grand Cherokee / Durango platform is rated on the low side for 6200lbs (3.6l) up to 8700lbs (6.4l and 6.2l). So this vehicle is actually a beast for towing as far as SUV's go.

@EC_ATV_Outdoors
@EC_ATV_Outdoors 10 ай бұрын
@@Nigriff it's like every vehicle, it has it's pros and cons. The fact is, it has a jeep 4x4 system, and it works great. But sure, being a large SUV there will obviously be issues rock climbing. But it's purpose isn't Rick climbing. Just like a standard jeep blows for highway drives and getting groceries at Costco. Then there is the whole point I made that Scotty got wrong, it is a towing beast. Now we aren't talking towing with a 3500 truck here. We're talking for an SUV, the Cherokee/Durango platform blows away the SUV segment. And it's absolutely a great option for recreational toy towing. For me, 2 ATV'S on a trailer and my family of 7 fit in my Durango and it doesn't even feel like your towing.

The first monoconstructed car in the true sense of the word was the Vanguard, the Volkswagen beetle was a body that can be unbolted from the floor same way a body can be separated from a chassis, monoconstructed is another name for unitary constructed or unibody.

Vanguard only made the unibody in the 1950s because they lost sales to Australia after the 1948 Holden came out. Same could be said about the Ford Falcon which reached Australia in 1960, they used to break across the back floor under the seat where the shockers attached, not up to our terrible roads. people would buy small pickups if they made any, but the government fuel economy ratings are driving companies to make bigger vehicles because EPA caved to ford who makes all trucks that they can't match gas efficiency standards because they don't make many small cars so epa changed rules to make trucks not required to have good mileage so the bigger they make them the less mileage they have to get.
