I honestly think the best cars are from early 2000, enough electronics to make your life easier, but not so much to destroy your wallet when they break. Absolutely hate new all screen instead of knobs in cars, especially when they lagg for whatever reason even tho its 2017.

To get to the test functions without clearing the trip, hold the reset button in while you're turning the key on. This will immediately bring up the test menu and keep your trip mileage intact. Also, as someone already said, the cluster test is always available, there's no need to unlock the other tests (3-18) just to do that.

And to get back to the other tests while in a test menu (like 2 for cluster), hold the button for ~half a second, and the .x will turn off, and you're back to selecting the main test menus.

All car keys will charge the batteries in ignition. If it stops doing it the battery's are just old and dead need replacing like anything else . But all car keys charge in ignition

Drop the windows and open the sunroof - then hold the recirculation button (tunnel mode) - should close the electric windows and sunroof, then press and hold the recirculation button and they should open back to their previous position (eg half or full open) - does that on all German cars, similar to the dropping the windows with the key fob.

Very cool! I have the same car and had no idea it has these features. The battery kept going dead, and the dealer said the car wasn't going into "sleep mode." They said the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. It's fixed now and runs great.

ANYTHING, ANYTHING AT ALL left on, even if you forget to shut off the headlights (ONLY PARKING LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED), it will automatically shut itself off after 15 minutes. The factory setting is 15 mins, not 20 mins. Although, there are many features that one can customize if one should chose to do so. For example, there is a feature in all BMWs 2000 and on, it is called, "Walk Away" after one shuts off the motor, pull back on the "High Beams" the high beams will illuminate for one minute, giving you light to illuminate your walking path as to prevent you from walking in the dark. One can change that one minute setting to go off at 30 seconds, 2 minutes. Also, interior lights can be changed so they stay on for longer periods of time. There are many factory presets that can be changed. There are tons of scan tools out on the market that plugs right into the OBD2 port of the car that can change all of those settings. Another example, BMW 2001 and newer, can remember 10 master keys (key fobs) and each person having a key fob to one particular BMW can have his or her own persettings for that one car, so as long as that one person has their own key fob, they can have their own set of preset radiostations programed, climate control set, rear view mirrors, steering wheel position, seat position, seat temp settings. Like I said, the car can have 10 masters. If one fob should get lost, the owener can plug a scanner into the OBD2 and delete that lost fob to make room for another or just leave that space blank.

Idk about the sedan or coupe, but the E46 Vert with the top disabled from the trunk you can use the key in the door & hold it in the unlock position & it will roll the windows down, hold it in the lock position and it will close the windows, and with the top enabled from the trunk the same action will actually drop or raise the convertible top, neat'o right 😏

In my 2000 323i I can hold the lock and unlock buttons on the key for the same features. It’s like 5 seconds to hold and your windows will go up, great feature if you left your windows open on a nice day, can close them from inside your house.

Are u sure about 12V sockets being turned off after some time? Because my brother had a 330d and the 12V charger's display was still on even after the car was turned off and locked for a couple of hours. We tried all 3 sockets located in the car and they seemed to all be delivering power constantly. We didn't try to leave it as such until the battery died completely, although it would probably take forever for a small cheap screen to drain it by itself.

You can greatly extend the range of your your key fob to lock your vehicle or open/close the windows. Simply touch your metal part of the key to your chin while pressing any button. Give me a thumbs up if you tried this and found it useful.

Actually if you are at 2.0 and only thing is to click and do the test but to not turn off the ignition and do all the stuff again just hold it and it will go back to 2 and you continue to other tests, by just holding it for a sec you go backward :-)

You forgot the follow me home lights. Pull the turn signal stalk and the blink lights come on for a predetermined amount of time. the time on can be coded with Carly. I think all BMW's do this.

I have a bluetooth thing plugged into my 12 volt, I always worry that if I accidentally leave it plugged then I’ll drain the battery. It’s so cool that it will turn it off!!
