So wonderful to see Poughkeepsie in a positive light!!! My family is from Poughkeepsie. My grandfather worked as a young lad in the brick yards of Kingston and Beacon. He was a fire fighter in the city of Poughkeepsie, and eventually had his own roofing business for many decades in Poughkeepsie as Aldrich Roofing. He specialized in copper work and slate roofs. He repaired and maintained many of the roofs of the estates, and colleges in the Hudson Valley. Great to see a new generation appreciating what Poughkeepsie and the Hudson Valley has to offer . Its such a beautiful area in NY state.

It’s nice to bring forth a positive take for a change when you can guarantee someone else will be cooking up a criticism. Great family story, I imagine it contributes to a sense of pride you may have for this local community.

You were close to the neighborhoods with a 20-30% poverty rate. The north side of the City of Poughkeepsie is seriously impoverished. Walking up and down Main St with your phone out like that wasn't really the safest. The town of Poughkeepsie is a really safe place.

Just like any other city it has it’s good and bad areas. Tbh City of Poughkeepsie is making a comeback (slowly). Lots of New investors are starting to do projects. There are so many good restaurants and breweries now. It really has potential thanks for keeping this video neutral and not negative.

Born in Poughkeepsie in the 60s. Coming home from Overlook elementary in about 1974, remember seeing the smoke when the Poughkeepsie train bridge caught fire

Hello, to answer your question on the economic status of Poughkeepsie: the city is trying (and sadly failing) to keep poverty down. It's a harsh reality, but Covid has really affected all of Dutchess County. The ease of access to the city had a weird effect when Covid struck: people moved out of NYC up to here! And now, house pricing has skyrocketed! If you're interested in older architecture, you should come back to Dutchess County and check out Fishkill New York!

Wonderful insight. the Hudson River region still has some interesting stories yet to tell so I doubt that’ll be the last time I visit that region. Thanks for your contribution in commenting!

I was there a couple weeks after you were there. Wandering woodsman's video of the bridge drew my attention to it. I hadn't heard of it before. I drove 4 hours to see the bridge for about an hour then 4 hours back. It was worth it! Very hot day and you bake in the sun out there on that structure.

Totally agree, a breathtaking sight and a great way to make use of a day trip.

Hi there.. I’m a native of this city. I was born here and Poughkeepsie has so much history. I’m happy that you did this video but I wish you had done some more research because I’d be really happy to give you some history. It important to me to especially answer your question with regards to “what’s happening in Poughkeepsie “ when ask for pocket change. I like to consider myself a voice for the homeless and so much is going on here. Please reach out to me if you would like to know more.

Nice overview, but some information left out: background information. I love Poughkeepsie and especially the Walkway Over the Hudson.

Oh yes, my channel is generally meant for overviews and not necessarily the deepest of dives. That and in 2021 I was still working out how to churn out content and attempting to improve with each location. A beautiful area for sure. I ought to return to the mid-Hudson.

yeah there’s like at least one shooting in pk every night, the towns around it are nice but literally not worth it to live here anymore due to sky rocketing rent prices (nyc prices and more)

I walked from Poughkeepsie train station to the entrance of Sky-walk way . The elevator was closed(a false advertisement.) Did I safe ? in the city? Hell No. I was lucky not mugged.
@TheCoverageProject2 жыл бұрын
A shame the elevator was closed on that day. Poughkeepsie didn’t necessarily feel the safest during my visit as I did notice myself being a bit on guard, so I understand that notion

@@TheCoverageProject Wow! No I agree we get a bad enough reputation we do not need more bad press. When your at the river it is like a whole other world. Just like some of the neighborhoods are like another world. Crime ridden, drug infested, violent areas around. In fact where you were on that block of main st, about a month and a half ago, someone was shot dead in the store, and the security footage leaked out so it was all over social media. Most of our murders are not caught on camera. Surprising because we have a lot! At one point a higher crime rate then all 5 Burroughs of NYC. Anyway thank you for showing my city in a good way and come back anytime. (Fun fact! We are known as Tree City and the 6th Burrough lol)

Poughkeepsie is a rat hole. Lived there for almost 30 years. (Outside the city in a near by nice area) Main Street is just run down and full of crime. The only nice places to visit are the waterfront area and the walkway. But, after that. You’re just better off heading to Route 9 or the near by towns. But, nothing really exciting. I moved cuz it was just boring and the winters are brutal.

Poughkeepsie's Main St is making a comeback. There's a luxury residential complex that just went up on one of the intersections in the downtown area. Slowly!

Wow, I live in the area and know a little bit about Poughkeepsie. Anyone could fly over the area and cover it better than you. You need to do a little bit of research before you claim to "cover" a location.
@yeahright9001 Жыл бұрын
Did you place a bet with someone that you could just go to places, not have much details on anything about them and just sorta "wing it"and people would watch? If so you won the bet. I guess you calling Poughkeepsie part of a "New Engalnd" tour shoulda been my "clue" to your "cluelessness". at least the videography was decent. BTW..that post office you said wasn't made with "bricks or wood" most assuredly has wood and bricks in it and it was built only in the late 1930's...but hey..you're just winging it.
