Excellent explanation about the JLC Master Control!

For years, I tried to convince myself to buy Rolex, even tried more than a dozen of them on my wrist but "not feeling it" or should say, not for me. When I tried JLC, didn't take me long to get hooked because of its inconspicuous look and outstanding craftmanship. I'm a very happy owner of black master ultrathin moon, burgundy reverso tribute monoface and a vintage 40 hour reserve bumper. At work, nobody knows what brand I wear except one of my coworkers who's a luxury timepiece enthusiast and I hope it stays that way.

I think that underscores what I always tell people, buy the watch you like not the watch everyone else likes. both of those watches are showstoppers for me, I only recently saw the burgundy in person, wow that dial is stunning. -Mark

What a really well put together piece. I just love the information and knowledge that’s put into these videos. JLC is one of those brands that speak to me anyway and one day would love to own one!

Cool! I now know what the "Master Control 1000 Hours" engraved on the rotor of my JLC means! I had no idea, and was never really curious about it. I bought the watch because of its beauty, reputation and amazing design, so I simply dismissed the wording as "some marketing thing". But it's great to know my watch has been through 1000 hours of testing! It certainly makes me appreciate it a lot more.

Love my MUT Moon--but it's currently getting serviced after 4 years as the movement stopped working! My Omega 8500 movement is still going strong (+2 spd) after 8 years, and my Tudor 5612 movement is still +1 spd after 6 years. Even the Valjoux 7733 in my 1973 Bulova 666 diver chronograph is doing well 10 years after last service. The JLC movements are beautiful, but I'm not impressed about robustness. Cheers!

They are not meant to be robust.
@danr61753 жыл бұрын
@@adesorcuppy4225 how do you then explain the part where they test the movements by testing them for 1000hrs straight anf then hitting them with a hammer? For the fun of it? I dont think so.
@41203063 жыл бұрын
That sucks to hear. A movement that fails in 4 years is considered poor quality at whatever price point. I own the silver utm. I hope your repair will be covered by the 8 year warranty.

Excellent video and presentation, Mark. I own the Duometre Lunaire Black dial from JLC, what a masterpiece. I don’t understand why they are not in the holy trinity over AP. Patek and Vacheron deserve their place not AP.

@@CrownandCaliber Thank you for your comments Mark. I have a Lange Moonphase black dial and it’s another stunning timepiece. The finish is the best in horology, as good or better than Patek. I have a Patek 5396 R to compared it to and they are both finished beautifully.

Hello Marc, i have got a MGUT and it is a bit to dressy. Few days ago you did a nice story on straps as well. Any ideas to make these “simple” JLC’s a little less dressy and more suited for a pair of jeans and a sweater? Great episode and in my opinion still a brand, with all its watches, that is value for the money.
@CrownandCaliber3 жыл бұрын
First, good choice on the watch. It does wear like a dress watch but I think it can easily be a daily wear. Go with different color leathers, if it is steel almost anything can work, just make sure the strap is thin to go with the watch. No cordovan or gator. Also a solid color Nato will work. If it is gold try a dark green distressed leather. I would even put it on a denim or canvas strap to go with what I was wearing. The watch itself is very simple and neutral so let the strap be what goes with the outfit. -Mark
@ThD0403 жыл бұрын
@@CrownandCaliber thanks Mark, I will look in to the nato and canvas straps. Kinda like the idea to really go the other way.

@@CrownandCaliber sorry I do not do Instagram or Twitter (basically any social media except this and Hodinkee). Is there another way to get it to you? Currently I am even debating a Bond NATO. Only problem is the 21mm lug distance, I would guess a 20mm strap will be okay too.
