What a beautiful story! Huge respect to the legend Charles Vermot for his foresight!

I’ve heard and read this story a thousand times, but you tell it better than anyone. A master storyteller is what you are, my friend! BTW I own the watch, and another 38mm tricolor EP for the Summer, on steel bracelet. It is fascinating, I agree.

For me, this is the best story in watchmaking. I really liked that most of the video was about the story and not just the watch.

Please consider doing a Hidden Gem video on Seiko...There is some great history behind King Seiko vs. Grand Seiko rivalry...Plus how they kicked a** at the Swiss Chronometer championships (not sure of the official name)... Also, given Seiko revolutionized (disrupted) the watch with the first Quartz movement, is there a Quartz Seiko which is a hidden gem for horophiles?
@maynardgoff73213 жыл бұрын
Don’t forget Ebel’s role in saving the movement. They ordered significant quantities before Rolex did.
@Mark_Hackman3 жыл бұрын
From what I understand Ebel was buying the old back stock from a third party, but those Ebel watches are what got the attention from Rolex.
@tomnewham12693 жыл бұрын
Charles Vermont probably saved the Swiss watch industry all together. If Rolex didn’t convert from a tool watch to a perceived luxury watch, the flow on effect to the other Swiss brands may not have happened. I hope Charles Vermont received a large cheque from Zenith because they sure owe him one. In fact the whole industry from dealers to watchmakers owe him for what the industry is today.

Cool story. I've never heard it told in such depth. But I find it odd that you mention Seiko for quartz, but don't also mention that they also released their first automatic chronograph in 1969. Not to rehash the argument over who was first, but that there was heated competition, and now controversy over who won, is part of the story.
@Mark_Hackman3 жыл бұрын
Hard to get all of the story in, wanted to focus on the El Primero (which was shown to the world in Jan. The Seiko in May)
@frankpentangeli79453 жыл бұрын
He did mention it near the start of the video, beginning around 0:43. He also mentioned that Tag Heuer came out with an automatic chronograph the same year.

I mailed you a watch for sale in June, it is now mid August and I have not received payment. It has been over 50 days. I am not the only one. Per BBB website, you've been slow-paying / stiffing people who try to sell watches. Anyone who is considering doing business with these folks, be mindful that they are currently experiencing a lot of issues, and aren't the company they were a few years ago. Their KZbin content is wonderful, but their accounting department and customer service is lacking.
