I think they finally opened Cascade River Road the other day 👍🏼 it's been a couple months at least! Thanks man, you'll freak out up there it's beautiful!

What makes north cascades so spectacular is its extreme vertical relief from base to summit. ( not above sea level). For example the Colorado rockies are higher above sea level but not base to summit. The peaks in Colorado are only about 4000 ft above a plateau of about 10000ft above sea level. Contrast with north cascades which rise 9000 ft above their bases in some places. This makes for much more dramatic scenery than the rockies plus more glaciers.

Dude, the summit view almost brought tears to my eyes...simply incredible. I can only imagine seeing it in person. Matt, you are a lucky man living in such a beautiful state. Of all the many, many hiking videos I have watched all over the States....Washington state knocks it out of the park every single time. The cascades are incredible. I've never been there, but I can honestly say from your videos that I love that place. Thanks for sharing, and keep on keeping on.

Another great video, Matt, and one of my favorite hikes in WA! Years ago I was part of a trail work party that installed some of that boardwalk. I carried wood down from the helicopter drop site. I can't wait for your next videos!

Nice video. I did that trip numerous times back in my hiking days. It's one of the best dayhikes in the region. Like everywhere in the North Cascades, the bugs are devilish in Summer, but usually are gone by September. Fall colors in early October are excellent, too.
@TheMountainMatt4 ай бұрын
Thanks Lee! I think the Cascades are my new favorite mountains. Actually headed back in mid August for more 🤩! Dalton and I were out there a couple years ago at the end of September. The colors were off the charts! Fall is the best time in the mountains I believe 😁👍🏼, cheers!
@leestamm31874 ай бұрын
@@TheMountainMatt Agreed. Trails are clear of snow, bugs are done, and the Autumn colors largely compensate for the flowers of Summer. Rule of thumb about the great flower displays is; Peak flowers means Peak bugs. It's just the price you pay. 😄

When was this recorded that you smelled smoke? I was there last August and the sky was completely white from smoke.
@TheMountainMatt6 ай бұрын
That was the last week of August 2023. We got lucky with the smoke from the fire near Diablo Lake that week. It was really bad the day we arrived but cleared decently for us.

@TheMountainMatt Still hoping for that previously mentioned top ten list video... sorry I'm a needy viewer! 😉🤷♂️ Would be tough to choose I'm sure! I think Siyeh and Sahale might be top two for me? 🤔 I'm still a Glacier guy, but it's possible the Cascades could change that someday... You also need to get up to the Canadian Rockies: Banff, Jasper, Yoho, Robson... incredible!
@TheMountainMatt6 ай бұрын
I totally like the "top ten" video idea! I have a few places on the docket that I need to go to first before I'd make that video 👍🏼. Heading to the Banff area in September actually 😁 can't wait for that! Sahale and Siyeh are definitely hard to top.

@TheMountainMatt Awesome! Have you been to Yosemite? That's another of my favorite parks. Think I remember seeing Mist Trail footage or maybe Upper Yosemite Falls in one of your Mountain Matt intros? 🤔 Clouds Rest is one still on my list. If you've not been, Yosemite is an absolute must-see, especially in May or June when the waterfalls are rocking!

You spotted correctly 👍🏼 we got to experience Yosemite during June with the snowmelt, it was fantastic!

I’m thinking we’re going to North Cascade National Park next year. Looks like it’s one of the least busier mountain parks from the visitation numbers I seen for your last year which is a bonus.
@TheMountainMatt6 ай бұрын
It’s definitely much quieter than most parks 👍🏼 you’ll love it out there! I think the Cascades are the prettiest mountains in the country. The next couple vids should help you get pumped to go out there 😁. There’s a lot of driving to be had out there and a good suv is a must but it’s all worth it!
