Vivzie has basically said that the season is so short and fast-paced because it was unknown if the show would be successful enough to be renewed. Fast forward to shortly after the season finished and it's so popular that Amazon greenlights season 2 & 3. The pace will slow down significantly and season 2 will really focus on each character's past

I like that the show doesn’t just say oh ‘heaven is bad, but hell is actually full of good people’. Which isn’t the case. Hell in the show is still full of evil people who deserve to be there like Valentino. We see that Adam and lute, even though they’re angels, are like the worst kinds of people who do hateful things in the name of religion, and feel just because they go to church and can quote bible verses that means they’re superior to everyone and anyone who doesn’t believe them is wrong. But heaven also has angels like Emily who has such a kind heart and empathy for others that she is excited to welcome Charlie to heaven and believes in her cause. She was shocked and disturbed by the extermination, even calling the sinners, innocent souls. Being so kind hearted that you can’t stand to see even demons be slaughtered. And the fact that no one else in heaven knows, it shows that if kept a secret, it’d because the other angels would be horrified. Adam and his exorcists don’t speak for heaven. I hope we learn more about ‘what we don’t know’ that sera says as to why sinners can’t be redeemed and welcomed in heaven

To me this show really calls to mind the messed up class system in the us, and how heaven reflects the rich and their hypocrisy and need to maintain power over others, and hell being the poor and homeless who people especially more higher up look down on and tend to think 'oh they must have done something to deserve the position they are in' when in reality a lot of people are in those positions because of things completely outside of their control. And I think Hazbin ultimately is trying to teach us to have empathy for these people and that they are deserving of compassion and a chance to have a better life.

As someone who was raised Mormon, seeing naughty queer demons in both Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss have humanity and personality was revelatory to me. My main takeaway from both shows is that even if Hell is forever, you do not have to face Hell all by yourself. And it is still worth it to mend relationships with the people you wronged even if Heaven is not an option. Of course, I love that Hazbin Hotel specifically is playing around with Disney tropes, archetypes, and themes but for an adult audience. Charlie is a literal Disney princess in Hell and has a girlfriend. Alastor feels like a Disney villain in the role of an anti-hero, and he is currently acting as a convenient ally for our protagonist, as far as I can tell. And Velvette feels like an influencer version of Cruella de Ville, which I adore.

@nubbylittlecat1753 if you want to be technical, "real actual Hell" doesn't exist in either the Old or New Testament. Sheol, translated as Hell in the Old Testament, simply means the grave. Gehenna, translated as Hell in the New Testament, was an area outside city walls where garbage and criminals' bodies were burned and where lepers were forced to live. If anything Hell is truly the spiritual state of separation from God and inability to experience the love of God.@@nubbylittlecat1753

The hazbin universe also kinda feels like the kind of universe where profanity makes sense? It’s hell, the people who are there are there for bad reasons. Also I often feel like the profanity has a point considering it often comes out when the characters are angry, emphasising a point or just have a really strong emotion. And that works

What you mentioned in how christianity keeps getting explored in shows and movies by treating it like a mythology brought to mind things like the norse and greek deities. These were gods in which people belived at some point in history but nowadays we just see them as myth and their stories can be found all across media. With this in mind, the christian religion geting the same treatment seems like a natural evolution tbh

Honestly, I am surprised that you didn’t mention the parallels between Lucifer’s offer to Charlie to run her hotel and the temptation of Christ in the wilderness - just as Satan offered Christ the kingdoms of the world in exchange for worship, Lucifer offered all the luxurious amenities of the world to her in exchange for partnering with him: and yet, like Christ in the wilderness, she turned down the offer of “champagne fountains and caviar mountains” and instead requested a meeting with the authorities of Heaven to save souls. It really says something about this universe when a literal hell spawn is the only person who believes in salvation for the souls of the damned…

I just finished watching hazbin hotel after being a little pessimistic about it (saw some not so great things about the creator and how she treated some staff and saw another about how the show wasnt all that great because of technical stuff like songs, character design, etc. and their personal preference) but I was pleasantly surprised to find that I really liked it, the story, the characters, and the songs (even if they feel a bit disruptive or abruptly/oddly placed as you said. I find the layers of plotline intriguing and the characters very fun and interesting, and I genuinely really like the story (def wish it got more episodes but surprisingly didn't feel super rushed other than I would have liked to see more in the 6 months they had) and I can't wait for the next season. I think it's a very interesting portrayal of the concepts of heaven and hell and the exploration of what they mean. The show definitely has more depth than I was expecting, especially for the 8 episodes, and I think there are a lot of things to explore and build upon. I have a few small gripes and things I'd like explained, hopefully in the future, but aside from my prior bias against the show, it was really enjoyable and I want to see what happens next.

Wanted to add onto the comment "Christianity(and adjoining offshoots) becoming a less of a religion and more of a mythology " that's exactly it tho! Lol like every belief system has lore/deities/stories, yet (some) people treat Christianity as a religion that is not to be taken lightly, yet every other belief system is treated like a long dead religion. Then that mythology just remains a myth. I love when writers/artists use Christian lore for fiction, it's only fair that it is used as fiction as much as, say, pagan beliefs. Couldn't tell you how many times pagan gods/goddesses are only used fictionally, like they're magic stories that hold no weight. Like, worship or believe whatever you like! But when using other religions and spiritualities, people don't give the same respect or treat it like it holds weight like Christianity.

Ive NEVER tapped on a Negative Legend video so fast.. Edit after watching the entire video: As an ex-Christian who turned their back to the church because of the wolves in sheeps' clothing and a fan of Vivziepop since her Deviantart days, i must say I'm really proud of what Vivzie has accomplished here, she has gone up the ranks of stuff like Bojack Horseman (in my personal opinion) where serious issues are being portrayed, hell even accurately. This is a reason why Angel Dust and Husk are considered overrated, it's the accurate depiction of disassociation, trauma, hopelessness, and finding comfort in others who have walked through the same path. The songs are really well made, but i agree that in some cases they're weirdly put (*ahem* the one song that Carmila duets with Zestial [and i guess Vaggie??], it's really awkward to listen to and to this day I've hidden it off of my Spotify), but they still elevate the characteristics of the ones singing and has made us empathize (More than Anything), relate (Loser, Baby), and and feel empowered (Out for Love). It sucks that they had rushed the plot to eight episodes because (this is a theory-) they didnt want to overspend for a flunk at the series equivalent of a box office, but i think the series is successful enough to stretch out more episodes that hopefully wont 1) rush the plot and 2) emphasize more on other characters like Nifty and Cherry Bomb (i suppose we may also get an ep on Mimzy, but i just dislike her so much- and i was so excited for her to appear too AHAHWHAHWHAA) Anyways, thars my messy 5am 2 cents, i might add more later because i also want to talk about the portrayal of queer and relationships and how good theyre doingnit, but im already late for class

I never watched the original pilot or seen Helluva Boss, but this show was a pleasant surprise, and I appreciated how the show gave the story and characters such a depth, which is something I hardly have seen in adult animation (esp with shows like Rick & Morty, which left me very disappointed and disgusted). The musical numbers weren’t too bad, and I do agree that some of them come in at an awkward time. What I don’t agree is your assessment about Inferno by Dante Alighieri. Maybe I was fortunate to have read an annotated edition that include a page after each Stanza that explained some of the things that happened, and the references made, because it was a really interesting read for me, but I still haven’t read the rest of The Divine Comedy trilogy, unfortunately.

I've always avoided these religious teachings despite being surrounded by them so most of that mythology is unknown to me though I am a big mythology fan- seeing these two shows finally fully immersive themselves in that aspect is something I always wanted to see and learn. My favourite thing is definitely how the sins are these people representing their sin but also having dept, Asmodeus has this big business around list but he's a big romantic, Beelzebub represents other aspects of gluttony that aren't the obvious one most people go for. It's so fun how all of the sins are these big imposing creatures but their boss Lucifer is just a little guy. So here is my working theory. Lets start with Lilith. Charlie's memories of Lilith are of her being the compassionate parent. The caring one that was emotionally there for her. She loved hearing about her father's dreams but they would eventually wear him down and Lilith would limit her time with him because of that. His depression was bad enough. Dwelling on the past made it worse. Lilith was struggling to bring Hell together as a community. Getting the denizens to have compassion for each other to make Hell a better place. But she was being thwarted by some of the more predatory Overlords and Heaven. The Overlords being a constant threat unlike Heaven being an annual one was her more immediate problem. The predatory Overlords did not want a unified Hell because it would affect their profits. People alone and suffering were easier prey. Lilith is very powerful. But her power seems to be more about persuasion through music. Not the best weapon to deal with entrenched powerful Overlords who have people's souls under contract. So she needed a weapon. She watched the incoming souls and picked out the worst of the bunch. A psychopath serial killer named Alastor. She struck a deal with Alastor to give him power beyond his reach. She would have his soul, he would act as her agent in Hell. He would strike down those who acted against civility and compassion. Focusing on the Overlords. He killed off the more predatory Overlords. We know he didn't kill all of them as we meet Zestial and Carmilla. Both of whom show signs of empathy and community. Carmilla even features a song about Love being the source of her power. They clearly have issues with Alastor but a truce is being enforced. Alastor because he is constrained from acting against compassionate Overlords. All this shift in power will have been noticed by Heaven. They will see Lilith behind the scenes. They had been worried about her organizing the demons. But now she not only has her voice to change things but she has a powerful demon at her beck and call. Alastor prevents them taking any action directly against her. But then into the void created by Alastor's romp through the Overlords arises a group of demons calling themselves the Vees. They quickly rise in power much like Alastor did. Being sinners who rose to power as fast as Alastor did suggests someone is behind them. More on that later. Suffice to say that they quickly become a threat to Alastor and Lilith's schemes. So Alastor confronts them but Vox manages to force Alastor to retreat. It was probably a close battle. But Vox prevailed and Alastor went into hiding to heal and try to find a way to break his contract or get more power. With Alastor out of the picture Heaven saw its chance to get to Lilith. So they sent Adam to threaten her. And Adam told her without her pawn Alastor her family was now a target of the exterminators. Specifically Charlie was a target. Being cornered Lilith struck a deal with Adam saying she would join him in heaven if he promised not to kill any of the Hellborn. Adam's ego would not be able to resist this deal so Lilith vanishes from Hell and is Adam's pet up in Heaven for the past seven years. So when Charlie calls her mother in the pilot and leaves a message lamenting how things are going Lilith pulls Alastor out of whatever hole he had crawled into and sends him to protect her. Alastor of course bristles at the idea of performing altruistic actions. But he is under contract and cannot say no. So he immediately shows up at her door. Despite being under contract he still sees opportunity to revel in the suffering of people in the Hotel so he plays along soaking up all the failure he can. After the fight for the Hotel with Adam presumably dead (we don't actually see him die as the last we see is him smiling at Lute) Lute retreats back to Heaven and informs Lilith that the deal is over as Adam is dead. And she tells her to go back to Hell and get her brat under control otherwise the threat to kill her stands. The more militant Angels now see Charlie as a threat and with Adam's deal not to kill the Hellborn off the table it is open warfare. Lilith will initially return to Hell and try to talk Charlie out of her goals. But eventually her conviction and the fact that she is fighting for what Lilith was fighting for will cause he to seek to throw off Heaven's hold on her and she will join Charlie's side. This will be the arc of the second season. Alastor will be trying to break his contract and Heaven will be struggling between the question of what to do about Sir Pentious and the militant Angels that want war with Hell. All while the Vees and their shadow master continue to pressure the denizens of Hell. The third season will see the rise of that shadow master coming out of the shadows and revealed to be Eve. Eve has been in Hell all this time. As she died in sin due to the Original Sin of eating the apple she would have been doomed to Hell no matter how good she behaved. Having knowledge of Good and Evil she may well have tried to stay good. But the Original Sin still doomed her. In the lore dump at the start of Ep 1 we never hear about Adam eating the Apple. In this setting it may have just been Eve that ate the apple. Thus Adam gained entry to Heaven as the first human to do so. Despite being a horrible sociopath due to not having knowledge of Good and Evil. Which is why when he says he has never done anything wrong he is being as honest as he can be because he has no idea what is right or wrong. Thus Eve is livid that she had to live her life with Dick Master and he went to Heaven and she went to Hell. She is pissed at Heaven for this. She is pissed at Lucifer for screwing things up. She is pissed at everything. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Alastor will have found a way to break his contract by the third season. Thus the power struggle will be Charlie and Emily fighting to change things in their respective domains. Alastor and Eve come out swinging at everything but for their own reasons. It depends on whether Alastor loses his power when he breaks the contract as to what he does with Eve. If he is still powerful he would not knuckle under her. But if he needs her for power he may side with her. In the end it will be a three way fight between Alastor, Eve, and Charlie. Charlie has to get over her problems with her own power. But once she does she may even be more powerful than Lucifer. But in the end she will have something that neither Eve or Alastor has and that will be friends.

5:24 I want to preface this by saying that I am a fan of Helluva Boss and Hazbin hotel while also being a queer Christian. If this comment somehow manages to get a couple of people's attention, I will not be responding to people who are trying to argue, hate on the queer community, or hate on Christianity. In my opinion on more media and content with elements from the Bible and such, I personally don't mind media like this so long that it's not basically propaganda. I think it's bad for media to depict religious groups, with very harmful cults being the exceptions, in a bad and harmful way just as how I think it's bad for right-wing media to depict the queer community in a harmful way. Once again, I will most likely not be responding to comments especially if they are just trying to spread hate or start an argument.

Greek Mythology (Hellenism) is still practiced to this day so I am all for treating Christianity and their adjacent religions as mythos, it's more fun and honestly fair if they're gonna call other religions 'fake' or a 'mythology'
@asteri82999 ай бұрын
Christianity and most other abrahamic religions are old enough to be considered mythology. Unfortunately making that step would put a number of cultures on a... idk... war path it guess? Despite the fact that many of the religons we actively study and consider to be mythology are still practiced today.

@@asteri8299 Yeah I think Christianity and adjacent can get away with not being called 'mythos' bc they're so big and present

It’s very interesting watching many of these heaven and hell shows as a religious Jew, because there are some similarities to something I genuinely believe in but I don’t believe in hell so I don’t take it seriously as a religious thing. Like I believe in the satan and angels but they’re so separate to how they’re shown in Christianity that I don’t recognise them as the same. It’s like when you watch something set where you live but it’s clear the person who made it has never been there. It also means that I’ve never properly experienced the strict heaven and hell enforced by christianity so the ‘what if heaven was also flawed and lucifer wasn’t so bad?’ isn’t a subversion to me as basically the only way I’ve seen it is through media like this. Still a fun show. Interesting hearing you and other talk of how it reflects how people use religion to attack others by having heaven also be bad, since for the most part sinners are shown to genuinely be sinners- like Angel Dust is changing now but he was part of a crime family etc- and though we haven’t seen much of heaven, the way some angels were dressed shows there is more to getting into hell than just dressing immodestly or whatever which is what I think you were talking about people saying.

I really enjoyed the first season, and I look forward to more. Since I only just entered the fandom (I watched the pilot about a week before the show started airing last month), I haven't watched Helluva Boss yet, so I have that to do still at some point. Lucifer might be my favorite side character - he's surprisingly wholesome, especially during his reconciliation with Charlie.

I adore the show! The writing is so much better than Helluva Boss's, which I am very thankful for. I hadn't really thought too critically about potential hidden meanings in characters and their actions tho cos I've been too busy thinking of how amazing the musical numbers are! I love absolutely everything about this show!

I'm a bit disappointed at how Charlie&Vaggie couple was shown in the series. In the trailer, they were holding hands and looking each other in the eyes several times. They looked so cute, comfy and romantic. I expected to see their cute and romantic interactions in the series too. But there are very few moments like that in the series... And honestly, I personally don't feel much chemistry between them too...

This show is honestly all over the place and the pacing is really hurts it a lot. They need to slow down. Even helluva boss suffers from this.

I feel Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel could definitely turn the profanity down a little, but the shows are really good either way! It feels like a middle schooler finally feeling like BillieBadass but Ive worked past it so its whatever. As much as i wish it was a little better, it's tolerable in the end. The shows are pretty good

You're the only person I saw who also noticed how comedicly textbook musical those songs where. They start out of nowhere and end out of nowhere, it's so awkward and bizarre 😂 Also, I really like the direction that we are taking with Lucifer story, because he is the most human and authentic part of Christian cannon, simply because he doesn't exist in the Bible. The name comes from incorrect translation and the common people just build the entirety of the story by themselves. That's why he is so relatable and closer to humans than any other biblical character.

Thanks for this. The Lucifer angle is interesting because, between 2ndary school multicultural RE and DC comics, I was actually slightly more familiar with the older, pre-Pride, version; there was a good chunk of a millennium where the character's damming sin was mercy towards those God saw fit to punish. Which gave the fictional takes more motive for both good and bad behaviour.

I love how they show the hypocritical view of the angels. They say that sinners will be sinners forever, but killing innocent souls would ake them sinners too. Why should they stay in heaven?

OKAY SO There is a wiki project just called "Gods and Demons", that does feature, among other things, a final clash between the Outer Gods and their Spawn (i.e./e.g. Cthulhu) and YHWH and the angels, along with the Pagan gods in there somewhere. I am not sure if that is what Negative was talking about at 6:33, but it sounds cool! I HOWEVER have been /told/ of an older RPG that has very similar parameters and subjective matter. It had a Latin name, but I don't think it's Steve Jackson's "In Nomine" so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ if anyone else wants to buzz in, I'm as curious as the rest of you.

I think I've responded personally to everyone who was asking, but it would be VERY funny if Negative and I are talking about different wiki projects. 😗

6:21 definitely nice change of pace, especially since most of the things we treat as myths (especially the pagan religions) are still religions. Like we’ve been making movies, books, games that are inspired or skew from the original source and don’t really care or think about it, but oh no, someone’s messing with a real religion isn’t being portrayed “correctly”. Basically I’m just saying, I’m glad Christianity (and it’s other relatively close to it religions) are getting the same treatment that they’ve been doing to others for a while now. Also check out Aztec mythos and religion, we got some gay gods.

Funny you should mention the prison industrial complex because one of my hopes for Vaggie should she turn out to be an exterminator was to deconstruct the lesbian cop archetype. While her backstory doesn’t do that too much I’m extremely happy to see that played even it was just a little bit! Because a lot of media including Arcane that I really like do this a lot and it’s maddening to see as a sapphic person! So, I hope this slowly means an end to that kind of character!
