This works perfectly in 1.15, Thank you for this! also side note, to anyone wanting to move the buttons, just take some block from the redstone block and lead it to wherever you want, then put some dust on top of the ones you just placed leading into the piston. You may need a repeater depending on how far away you put the button. Same thing with the back one.

Sometimes the oldest tutorials are the best. I just installed this in survival on my existing jungle Mayan temple as a way to enter at ground level without disrupting the look of the structure. *"HOW TO MAKE THIS WORK IN 1.16?"* In order for this build to work in 1.16, make sure that the redstone dust on 2:43 is in the cross-shape (right click on a redstone dot to switch between dot and cross-shape). The other redstone dots doesn't matter which shape they have but this one is a necessity for it to work, otherwise one of the pistons won't fully retract one of the stairs.

7 years later and I found this tutorial. I play in Bedrock edition, so this doesn't work for me. The reason this doesn't work for bedrock is because powering a block will not also power a piston if the piston is going to push the powered block, but there's a small adaptation you can make to get this design to work. After completing the Mr. Cubey's instructions simply find the red circuit where redstone dust that's powered by a redstone torch goes into a repeater and powers a block that's above a sticky piston. Set up a repeater going out of the redstone dust and click it 3 times. Set up another repeater going into the block under the repeater that goes into the block above the sticky piston. And finally connect the two repeaters with redstone dust. This will work for 1.21, which is the current version as of posting this comment, but I'm not sure about older versions. I hope this helps any bedrock players out there!

Just make it so they won't think there's anything. And in case they do get in add more secret doors. Still miner's could get in but you could fence the underground of the area with about 30 blocks of obisidian so they cannot break in easily.

I had that problem, but found out it was a missing block (usually one that either has to be one top or in front of a redstone component). I built it over again from the beginning and it worked fine. Otherwise, check the repeater delay settings. What system are you using?

This tutorial does work and apparently, this doesn't work for some people. So I've decided to try this out on both pc and console and I saw why some people said that it happened. The second stair in the middle only went down once. Microsoft obviously forgot to add the feature in so unfortunately this method only works on pc.

If you are playing on bedrock edition (Xbox one, switch, Windows 10, or mobile) the problem comes from a mechanism on the red wool part. There is a red wool block on a sticky piston with two Redstone repeaters leading through it. Replace the block with an observer and have the first repeater facing into the face of the observer. You can then remove the piston. This should fix the issue on bedrock

Hello i built everything exactly as shown and it took me forever to figure it out but my other pair of piston the one for the back stair retracts and works perfectly but my stair stays above ground and wont retract like the one in the front not sure if it's a glitch but is there anyone that can help I'm on ps4

For ppl playing on PS4...remove the red wool block above the piston, place an observer facing the first redstone repeater and remove the piston. Worked for me.
