Couldn't have said it better myself. I found myself wondering why I finally feel like this game is okay to play for longer periods and honestly it's because after almost 10 years we finally have a game that resembles the sims 2 & 3 BASE GAME

Adding more "content" does not necessarily result in a deeper simulation. In fact, The Sims 2 is the most immersive simulation in the franchise. However, subsequent editions shifted towards an open-world concept with additional features that were not as immersive as The Sims 2. Unfortunately, the franchise lost its direction after that point. The Sims 4 lacks depth and is overly simplistic, which makes it seem more suitable for younger audiences. Even with an endless supply of DLCs, the game remains shallow and lacking in real consequences.

the emotion system sounds good in theory, but in practice it just makes every sim feel the same and pales in comparison to TS2's personality points or TS3's ACTUALLY MEANINGFUL traits.

Or to add something spicy to sim's character if he doesn't have any negative traits, for example, I would like my sim to be able to use the kleptomaniac option at some point of need, because in sims 3 only detectives and firefighters can steal things except kleptomaniacs. Or, only detectives can become hackers if a sim lacks this character trait. Kleptomania is a mental disorder, but people can steal without this disorder. Let's imagine that a sim with neutral traits in a normal good mood cannot steal, but can steal when in a shallow mood or he can only steal from a sim who has offended or angered him. But emotion system in Sims 4 looks cosmetic with certain small advantages

Like the whole “3 traits” make them distinct thing when there’s a mod that adds more back and they’re still “distinct” or how Lindsay saying Batuu was her idea (when it has no integration into the lore/world (considering she’s been involved with TS2-3 development) and Disney and EA have had a partnership since 2013) … like it’s so unnecessary…

I really hope that Paralives and Life By You make EA actually put some effort into TS5, but knowing them they’re probably just gonna pull another TS4 move because they know people will buy it just for the brand, and sadly they’re correct. What we actually need imo is a Sims fangame, that actually uses the sims lore and stuff like ghosts, simlish, the grim reaper, etc. so fans of the franchise will play that instead, of a total conversion mod for Life By You that essentially turns the game into the sims.

I didn't realize how many 'features' were added only recently. I bought TS4 when it first came out but would always be bored with gameplay after a couple hours. Picked it back up in the last couple years and have actually enjoyed gameplay like I used to with TS3. Now it makes sense because it feels and plays more like a complete game (with multiple dlcs). I really hope they step it up with Project Rene.

Single worst thing to happen to Sims 4? Having Grant Rodiek work on it. One of the snarkiest and needlessly rude guys to ever have worked on these games. Absolutely cannot stand him, his arguments were as shallow as the snow that came with TS4 seasons lol. At least modders are doing the lord's work and actually provide some fun and worthwhile mods and cc for this game. Can't wait until its lifecycle is finally over so that they can go hog wild with the code, without constantly needing to fear new game-breaking updates.

Actually the heros are the modders, that fix game bugs and add mod packs that add content that was lacking, and I have seen EA adding similar content that modders had already made, before the gender preference or the pronouns update there were already mods that did such things, and Wonderful Whims and it's NSFW alternative, Wicked Whims not only had a gender preference, but also a full attraction system, so then EA makes a gender preference feature, but they left it simple, but made it a bit confusing and without an attraction system, instead of making a pack be complete to where it lives up to it's potential, they give us a pack with just a few things and an empty world with pretty scenery with no interactions. They always cut unnecessary corners.

The Cats and Dogs have a colour wheel they can be whatever colour but nah, we can't do that for the sims clothing at all. As a console player, all I have ever wanted was nice wallpapers, but can't have those, for that I would have to be a PC player which is disconcerting, I put it on the console cuz it actually ran on there unlike my PC.

The more I play broken S4, the more I can't wait for Life by You. I play only 2 households in my new save. Parents with Triplets and the Grandparents with Great Grandparents. Got the Triplet infants ready to age up, milestones achieved, all foods tried. Changed to the GP's for grandkids sleepover. Swapped back to Main family ALL milestones gone! Back to like they were newly aged up infants 😢. Done with S4.

This is pretty typical behavior from EA published games. Maxis might develop the game, but I'm sure a lot of this stuff is EA's influence. EA does this with their sports games all the time. They'll remove features and then put them back in the games years later and pass them off as 'new.' As someone who had played the EA NHL games since 2007, it's a very blatant thing. There's stuff that was in those early 2000's NHL games that are now being added to the NHL games of the 2020's and becoming major marketing points.

That tweet by Grant is....something. By all means, go to bat for your team. But that "more DLC" comment isn't something you should be bragging about. There's more DLC for the Sims 4 than previous games because the base game is barren as fuck and because DLC packs that used to be a couple big expansion packs are being chopped up into several smaller packs that altogether cost more than a couple expansions and have even less gameplay changes to make them interesting. Giving us more things to pay for is *not* something to pat yourself on the back over, especially when so much of the DLC is so shallow and when some of it used to be base-game content in previous entries.

5:14 the only reason why there’s more free updates is because the base game lacked so much and the only reason why more DLC has been released is because every single aspect of gameplay has been separated. While I won't deny upon re-entering the game after a long time since I dropped the game years ago, that I was quite impress with the new options in the Create a Sims mode like the pronoun customization options and other gender options,... other updates is just what we had near decades ago but was only re-added into the game. Am I supposed to be impressed at all the skin colors that was added 6 years after the game launched when that option was available to me at the launch of Sims 3? Boasting about the larger team size isn't exactly a boast either. It just shows how incompetent they are when compared to the smaller team back in Sims 3. And boasting about "more DLCs"? What's worth boasting about overpriced DLCs that are mostly rushed out and was filled with bugs and glitches? And not to mention that the DLCs are just things that should've been in the base game, or it should've AT LEAST been a FREE update. Things like Seasons and Pets are still DLCs. The Sims 4 release was originally rushed out before its time because of a major leak..apparently ( which I think was just an excuse to create publicity & attention to the game). The game was created on a platform the the developers didn't fully know how to use in the first place & were learning as the game developed (as packs were released). Its common knowledge that the platform is far more powerful than the devs knew how to use to its full potential which is why we got a basic cartoon look to the sims & not a more developed/advanced render of the sims over all look. If compared to other Simulation games, the aesthetic of the game looks childish and far from a more advanced look that most simmers were expecting to get with this new release (at the time). The platform used in the Sims 4 was promised to be a major improvement 5o the bugs that the predecessor The Sims 3 had... but does it really have that much less? It might only seem like it, as the Sims 4 has half of what The Sims 3 had in in its game...& it still is full of bugs... 😢

I totally agree, the sims 4 is totally pale compared to the sims 3. The only thing is great about sims 4 is character face creations, skins, toddlers (thats also can be much better), and cleaner modern UI. But the rest, its barely any upgrades to sims 3. And yes they boast TS4 sims much bigger than TS3 yet they produced GP, EP, SP that mostly just revived old features from sims 3. Even worse not as good as TS3 and locking it with multiple DLCs. They truly embrace same energy to others EA products such as Fifa & BF which is "keep using the same old game/engine while slapping fewest improvement here and there to make illusions to diehard fans so they kept buying it". The sims 4 maybe have bigger budget to their marketings than to their actual development nowadays. I stopped playing the 4th edition because I got tired of having to update the thousand mods it needs to become somewhat interesting due to the poor updates that only bring two or three objects and charge you $40 for them.

When I first started playing I was naïve and would pay up whatever because I wasn’t a gamer I didn’t know what games should cost. Fast forward and now I’m stuck in a sunken-cost fallacy, which I feel MANY older players are. I have only recently been able to kick the desire for completion since “I’m already this far.” We are being legitimately scammed. I wish more people would take off the rose colored lenses and smell the actual roses which have unalived and began to rot by the hands of EA.

The first game had 4 skintones and these fucking people had the audacity to complain about not having enough skintones. Whatever, Sims 4 still isn't a real Sims game, let's be honest.

just a tiny mistake dear, basements were only in the sims 3 before sims 4 and it was added in world adventures expansion pack but with base game update.

Yes, you're right. But I didn't make a mistake in my video. I was referring to the features in the base games in general, prior to the release of Sims 4, and not only features appearing in all of the previous games.

Im not sure if they created all problems on purpose, but they really are just catching up! There is no other way to say it. That traids more would make sims too vanilla totally sounds like an excuse tho. People are complex, we want our sims complex too! If they want to make sims different from one another they should have traids that appose each other more. Like they were working with opposites in sims 2. Or get more hobbies, I dislike how every sport is the same skill.

I understand a lot of complaints about the Sims 4 but I never understood the complaint about personality traits, you could have more than 3 way before Growing together, most of my Sims have 10 to 15 on average 🤷🏻‍♀️

Reward traits aren't personality traits. Being able to go a long time without sleeping, eating or peeing has nothing to do with someone's personality. Sure, neither does lactose intolerance, but that's a different story.
