Half knowledge is deadly. The person fails to tell the below points which contribute to the low cost of chinese solar panels : 1. Land acquisition is almost free in china 2. Rate of interest for the solar co's is close to 2% 3. Very high levels of debt are given to the solar companies and then the solar companies are selling the solar panels across the world at loss and then finally chinese government bails them out. Check out trina solar china bailouts. 4. The cost of electricity for the chinese manufacturers is super low 5. The whole supply chain of solar in china was built over the last 20 years from huge bailouts and debt from chinese government. Which allowed them to kill the companies in the rest of the world. Now coming to why india needs to promote it's own companies: 1. Solar is an industry of national importance and energy security. 2. Solar backward chain integration cannot be done unless there is a burstling demand within the country 3. No business owner will open company if they are not protected by the predatory prices of chinese solar cause the chinese solar companies are used to selling at loss. 4. The amount of solar required in the future will be 100 times more than what we are using today so making it will be fundamental to creating jobs in the country.

Thank you so Much We are glad you shared all the Insights on the topic, and when we were researching on the same we also discovered all the points which you mentioned, and We also understand that how china dumps its made in China Goods everywhere around the globe and same can be seen in Europe, But we do not completely agree with some points you mentioned We disagree on 1) Major part of the benefits which you mentioned for (Chinese manufacturers) is also given to Indian Solar Manufacturers In form of PLI (Production Linked Incentives) 2) And Even after Lockdowns and Covid Breakouts they were able to keep their manufacturing prices Low 3) Solar Panel Manufacturing in china started in 1975 and and now its 45 years no company can sell their products for such a long Time Period in Losses and in fact even if we consider since India Started Importing solar panels from china It has also been more than 20 years and again Its Very difficult for any company to sell their products at loss for 20 years We agree on 2) China had an experience of more than 20 years in making solar panels and due to which they are much more efficient in their operating cost What Our Message was We have to pack a lot of Information in limited Time, so we try and cover major Portions of the topic 1) Why Nothing is done when china is using dirty tricks to import their cheap solar panels Via FTA countries 2) When there is Huge domestic demand for DCR solar panels, then also why a major portion of these panels are exported to USA and Majorly who is benefited from these exports. @@lumencity thank you for the reply. I want to add a few points from my understanding here 1. Indian solar manufacturers have a long way to catch onto and the import duty should be reduced over a period of time. But many times china suddenly starts dumping in huge quantities as you are also aware currently Chinese manufacturing capacity is much higher than infact the global demand so they are running new techniques to dump the panels. We have seen therefore a significantly high reduction in prices just recently. Also, India's PLI scheme is still far behind Chinese subsidies especially the indirect tricks. 2. The solar companies from China don't sell in losses forever they get bailed out or their loans get waived off by the government. Say the raw material costs 60 cr and value added in china is 40cr. China imports raw material at 60 and then gives subsidized raw material within china at 50 cr. By this the 40cr value add in labor, profits, local electric consumption stays in china from which the government takes taxes and the cycle continues. So effectively the government is in loss not the company but still many times companies take up losses in their balance sheet. 3. The FTA route is something I completely agree with you on. The government should not allow for that. 4. The export to USA is actually something that I also agree with you somewhat that it should not be allowed at the cost of the pli scheme. Those who are exporting to the US should be out of the pli scheme. But those who are not getting benefit of pli scheme should be allowed to export fully. 5. I think that the government has the right to subsidize only the panels brought from India as the sales of these panels are also at the cost of Indian publics taxes. So it should not be contributing to some other country's economy especially one we have regular conflict with. I really appreciate all those who are working in the field of solar as I think this is the real path to riches for our country and the world as energy is the real currency. Solar is my passion field and I also think that given the growth of green hydrogen solar capacity in India will skyrocket the moment green hydrogen becomes viable as a fuel for cars and can be used as a substitute to oil. I have researched the in and out of this industry because of this passion and realised that one of the core strategic advantage in this industry is capital and if the government is promoting this I am actually proud of it rather than being against it. I see the Indian solar manufacturing going 10-20x within the next couple of years if there is right policy. And very soon it would not need pli scheme as the complete supply chain becomes indigenous. Currently we don't even produce pure silicon for the manufacturing neither do we have setup for manufacturing the machines for the production lines. So the industry needs pumping.

Made in India solar panels ka rate zyada hona demand supply ka nahin hain, balki India ka technology aur scale of production hain. Agar demand zyada hoga tho vendor doosra factory nahin kholega kya.

Jab supply se kayi zyada demand ho tab profit margin bhi accha khaasa hota h isliye supply ko kayi baar jaan mooch k zyada speed se badhaya nahi jaata. Oil price k saath bhi aisa hi hota hai, Saudi Arabia bhi production reduce karta h even during high oil demand

Import duety 0% hona chahiye. Domestic manufacturing, globally compatative price par manufacture karna hota hai, Naa ki mehanga manufacture karo, aur logo se zavardasti kharidwao. Aur ye economcially bhi sahi nahibhai. Jab input ka price mehanga hota hai, tab output bhi mehanga hota hai. Example- Agar solar Pannel, expensive ho ga to uske output (electricity) bhi mehanga ho jae ga. Aur fir wo bijli bhi mehanga ho ga. Bijli mehanga, to baaki industry jo bijli use karti hai uska product mehanga ho jae ga. Ta fir aap usko bhi protect karne ke liye aur duety lagao ge. Domestic industry ko support karne ke liye limited time subsidy do, Ya free land do. Taa ki globally compatative priduct bane. Naa ki Duety laga do. Protectionism is very bad

Yes Exports are Good For economy Now Consider a situation, You provided space and electricity to a vegetable Vendor outside your Home and expect him to give you fruits and vegetables at a discounted rate but instead of that he started getting lot of customers outside your Home and Instead of Charging you less price he started asking premium based on the principle of demand and supply 👍😇This is what Happening in India You = Common people whoes tax money is Given to establish Factories Vegetable Vendor = solar manufacturer who got Govt Grants Customers = american Buyers 😉(export)

​@@lumencity It's not a zero-sum game i.e Either selling to US or India. Goal is to sell to as many countries as possible to achieve `economy of scale` in production. Adani has scale of 4GW while chinese companies have 100X scale - 400GW. So, to achieve China price, they'll have to produce as much as China and that means selling to as many countries as possible. Govt is not giving money so Adani can subsidise domestic purchases. Govt is giving funds to help them achieve production efficiency.

@@dreadfulbodyguard7288 There are 2 Ways Govt is Helping Domestic solar cell manufacturers 1) By giving direct subsidies to the consumers who are using DCR (Made In India) Modules 2) By Giving The Manufacturers Financial Support In establishing New Factories. My simple Question is when the manufacturer is getting Huge Demand Locally as well as Internationally Then their first priority should be Indian Consumers, After Which if they have surplus Stock they can export 👍 But In India, Indian Consumers are paying an extra premium on DCR(made In India) Modules so that they can get the subsidy And if a consumer plans to go for a solar rooftop above 5kw then the cost is just the same if the consumer uses Non DCR(imported Solar Cells) Directly (as they are same quality and cheaper in price) Or plans to Use DCR(made In India) Solar Cells and then Claim subsidies
