Hey Chad, STIHL makes great equipment. I'm sure that pole saw will come in very handy for you. With all your trees you could probably run it 8 hours per day every day and never be done with it. Also, I enjoyed your cider video. I wish KZbin had a "smell" function, because I'm sure it smelled wonderful.

Yeah I love how all my Stihl equipment starts after only a few pulls. I’ve trimmed the garden now I have to get out to the orchard. It’ll definitely be useful.

I had my HT131 sitting for a while but yesterday it got to chop some wood. Yours should have come with the shoulder strap at least mine did but I didn't use it and it's not heavier than my HT311. I used it for mostly on the ground stuff and really like it for that along with being far enough away to not get bonked by overhead stuff. I notice you have the same ridge look to your cuts. I didn't extend it much and chopped some pretty good stumps it's got some power.

Just bought this pole saw yesterday. It cuts like butter but DAMN this SOB is heavy when its extended and you are trying to hold it up in the air to get to a high limb. Im an old dude and 17lbs dont sound like much but when you get that pole and head unit 12 feet away from you, it has some serious leverage against you. So for me at least. its work one tree and put it down for awhile or the next day. It really is that heavy because of physics. I also bought the PP-800 yesterday and that manual saw extends to about 20 feet or so and its AWESOME but not intended for big limbs like 3" and above. Both the HT-131 and the PP-800 are built like tanks.

I totally hear ya. I’m built like a hulk and I too just work as long as my shoulders allow them have a break. I have t had any issues with the unit and it starts right up even after sitting thru the winter.

I use this saw almost everyday. I cancelled my gym membership awhile ago. I guess it is worth the money.. On a serious note this saw is a must in any arborist arsenal.

@@HiddenSpringFarm my Husq died and never made power🥴luckily it was given to me. My Stihl saws have never let me down. So it’s a 133 or 135, what do you think. 22 years in the Arb trade and never used a Stihl pole ?

@@thedoddfishtreemonkey.7760 I only own Stihl, they start up every time. This 131 I have extends to 12’ and I use it mostly in the orchard so it suits me just fine. Not sure of the specs on the others but I was looking for length. At the time 12’ was the longest, but it does take a bite out of your back & shoulders if used for long periods. I usually cut some then limb with my ms170 then back.

I have one of these,BUT the problem arises because the head is fixed at the one angle, when you need to undercut and then cut from above to allow the branch to drop without jamming the blade. To fix that I bought thread from a cheap Chinese knockoff which allows the head to swivel. Also if it sticks the extension pulls out.

How do you get Smokey to hitch a ride on the open vehicle? Does he have to be carried in? You're lucky he doesn't run off especially when you go deep in your trails.

Yup sometimes Stormy just jumps up on the mule but other times she stands in front so I pick her up and carry her so I know I won’t run over her. She always just stays around the farm area though I don’t want her to get used to going to the woods. 🐈‍⬛ 😊

Mine came with 14, but some people got 12 depending on when it was bought. I think 12 would be fine though; the engine isn't really made for anything a 12 can't handle. Plus it's doubtful you want to cut something that big when that far away.

You should use a STIHL HT 131 manual to redo this video. The manual has a lot more good stuff than in this video. Like using a harness, cutting no more than 60 degrees and you can extend to 14 ft not 12 ft.

Manual schmanual. When ur out in the field working, sweating, huffing and puffing no one is thinking about the 60 degree thing. You obviously don’t cut branches standing underneath. I think the video is fine for a quick overview. I mentioned towards the ends I’ll be getting the harness cause it gets weighty. Someone else was arguing that it has a 14” bar but mine has a 12” bar and extends 12’. I wonder if the model has changed over the years or if it can be customer when ordered. Or if it’s a bit different in Canada vs the rest of the world. Hope you enjoy the saw cause it’s very useful in specific applications 🍺

bad part 4 mix engine , has bushing on top of piston pin super cheappp, No needle bearing and will fail, plus plastic cam cam lobes that wear down quick, all made to sell parts $$$ from stihl designers , ~ see it every angle

True and you can’t stand directly under a branch while u cut either. It’s still better than climbing a ladder pruning out orchard though. I work in intervals…after 20 mins my shoulders are wrecked so I do some limbing with a smaller saw then get back to the pole.

@@HiddenSpringFarm .... Thumbs up ! My wife wanted me to buy a pole saw to trim some trees but after buying the HT 131 I found it wouldn't reach as high as the limbs even with a ladder. But yes it does do a good job . I want my money's worth so this pole saw was one of the better saws out there.
