As someone who has unfortunately witnessed many pediatric deaths while working in the ER, many who were victims of abuse of neglect, the decapitated part would probably force me to take a medical leave or resign. I hope the people who had to take that case are offered some relief.
@TSUNAMI-MAMI2 күн бұрын
Thankfully medical professionals at the hospital wouldn’t have to see that. If it’s a decap, that’s straight to the coroner.

There is no doubt they will have some sort of ptsd from this. Like you I am a retired trauma nurse and I still get flash backs of some of my worst cases. Counseling is essential
@Musiknird2 күн бұрын
@@hms19591as a former paramedic I can tell you you always get to see absolutely horrific things. I don't know how it is in the US, but here in Sweden we always have debriefing when we have been at traumatic accidents and cases. You have to attend whether you want it or not, but I never heard of anyone saying no to it. We also get therapy sessions with a psychologist whenever we need it and it is the key to last as a paramedic, first responder, firefighter, ER/ICU/trauma nurse/doctor. Here it's encouraged to see a psychologist by the employer and you ofc have salary during the sessions. It honestly feels good to have debriefings and being able to talk about what you just saw at the scene. Even the "tough guys" appreciate these sessions and they feel a great relief to be able to vent, show emotions and talk about their feelings. Back in the days many became alcoholics to cope with their anxiety, emotions and night terrors.

I’m so sick of people blaming mental health for these evil crimes , their are thousands of individuals with mental health illnesses that do not behead their kids 😢 or hurt anyone
@Djsexton252 күн бұрын
I totally agree! I have lived with mental health issues do to SA as a child but I would never hurt anyone. They know what they’re doing when they’re doing it and then use mental health to get a lesser sentence and it’s ridiculous!! I think the law should be a life for a life, if you take a life then you should have your life taken unless it’s in self defense.
@nevadatan73232 күн бұрын
Yeah considering you wouldn't do such a thing it's _almost_ as if mental health issues are *subjective* huh
@Musiknird2 күн бұрын
This! I also live with mental health issues and I have never ever thought about hurting another human being or an animal. The only one I ever thought about hurting is myself. I get so upset and angry with people using mental health as a shield protecting themselves and not taking responsibility for them being a shitty person.

Mental health issues are real. Does that mean it should be used as a get out of jail free card? Absolutely not.

If Powell gets a new trial, hopefully she’ll get life instead of just 15 years.
@peonypink91493 күн бұрын
Re: the Powell trial. I hope they convict her again and she goes to prison. She was calculated in her covering up that she was dismissed from college, vicious in her brutal killing of her mother and deliberate in her attempts to cover it up - she was not insane at the time of the murder and deserves life in prison. If the defense want to say they she is ‘seriously mentally I’ll’ - then she needs to be committed to a state hospital for the duration of what would have been the prison term at least otherwise, what happens to the poor customer service person who doesn’t give her what she wants as fast as she wants it at 7 Eleven? You can’t have it all ways defense team- she doesn’t get to go free if she is so mentally ill she can kill people and then strategically try and get away with it……

“Schizophrenia” seems to get thrown into the ring far more often than it reasonably should. Looking forward to Dr John’s take on the SP case. Keeping an open mind but I’m just so over what seems to be a diagnosis of convenience on behalf of the defense in so many cases. JMHO

Not an expert, but I believe that in every case with this sort of crime, mental health defense does not get a person free-just into a secured MH facility rather than the regular prison.

In my head, I’d rather confess to failing college than killing someone I purportedly loved. No historical signs of the severe homicidal mental health disorder is suspicious. To be a perfectly normal, nearly 20 yo, getting along with her dorm mates, functioning and making plans on how to hide her situation, suddenly becoming a homicidal schizophrenic in a really short amount of time is a big logic leap. If you’ve seen someone in a schizophrenic “break”, they don’t tend to function well, or even shower. Answering a phone and pretending to be someone else, breaking a window and lying to police about an intruder doesn’t indicate a psychotic break to me, but it does demonstrate consciousness of guilt and an attempt to misdirect a murder investigation. So those psych’s maybe need to administer other tests that are more robust. But I am not psych trained so correct me if I am wrong.
