Good Morning Barry. I absolutely love your Channel and everything you do. I'm one of those soft Southern ones from London. A London BusDriver for over 26 Years. Keep doing what you do and I totally agree that our Government are trying to choke our heros who work on Land and Sea to provide the best quality food, this Island has. Stay safe and stay healthy.

Hi Vinnie. Thank you so much for your very kind comment. I actually used to be a bus driver in Edinburgh for Lothian buses. Great job, but no real support for the drivers from management, well back in my day.🙈🤣🤣🤣😁👌 You are so right. the government is trying to control us via the food. They'd rather import than grow our own. It's all a disgrace 😡😞 You take care, sir, and happy driving. All the best. Baz😉👍

Hi Barry Glad you and the Mrs enjoyed your few days away. When you have a hospitable host it sure makes your break more enjoyable. So its back to the office for you and what a beautiful morning you got. Awesome sunrise and calm sea. It seems so unfair for the price you are getting for your lobster, is there no other outlet available for you to sell your catch locally to restaurants or markets? Keep your catch in a store creel until you have a buyer. Im sure you already have investigated this but it's just a thought and I've seen other guys do it, selling their catch on the quayside when they return from sea and locally via facebook. Anyway Barry i wish you a bumper harvest from the sea this season, so take care and stay safe 👍
@onemanandhisboat3 ай бұрын
Hi Peter. As always, thank you for your wonderful comment. 😍😁👌 At the minute, we can't afford to even look for another outlay for our lobsters because, as per usual, the government has everything well under scrutiny. 1st, we'd need to get a licence to sell from the boat. The we would need to get premises to buy a walk-in freezer to store bait, and also an I've machine to keep everything as fresh as possible. Then we need need to get calibrated scales to sell our stock, obviously checked constantly by the fisheries department. Yes, I could also do the Facebook thing, but their is no guarantee that I will sell all my catch all year round, so then what do I do. So, at the moment, it's far easier to put up with the price being paid until we can get those factors in place, by the time I can afford to do that though, I be retired 🙈🤣🤣🤣🤣 I hope that gives you a little insight into the logistics involved in selling direct from the boat.😁👌 All the very best to you and your sir. Baz.😉👍

@peterc1927 you hit the nail on the head with that statement Peter, and it's all true. No fishing boats, no worries about putting their turbines up🙈😡 Then also the big stakeholders can hoover up all the quota, and the government get their way with their hands in their back pockets, it's all about money, not sustainability and local survivability 😞 Anyway, see you next week.🤣🤣🤣 All the very best.😉👍

Really impressive numbers of lobsters, nothing like that this way; there is a suspicion that conger eels are proliferating and eating the juveniles. Those crab would have provided a sound set of meals for you both; that's economic, but in the home!

@onemanandhisboat3 ай бұрын
Hi Bert. Thank you so much for your comment. Yeah, like I've said a few times, fishing like that isn't viable, however I never blame the fishermen, as they are just trying to feed their families and live, as always it's bad management from our lazy government, and things won't change, because you have a educated person making the rules on something they know nothing about...that about sums up our country at the minute 🙄🙈🤣🤣🤣 And don't get me started on that subject 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm sure the price of lobsters will " slowly " creep back up nearer Xmas, until then, it's on with the grind💪🦞🙈🤣🤣🤣 Good luck with your next fishing trip🎣🐟, and missing all those pots markers.🤪 All the very best. Can you not hand them before you put them in the basket. As I live in the West coast I have the pleasure of seeing the sun set over the sea.
@onemanandhisboat3 ай бұрын
That's always a possibility, but it would slow the process of hauling the creels to a crawl, and that can be dangerous when working close to shore. When we were sending crab and lobster to france, the biggest issue with price was dead loss at wholesale . They want them alive, some of them travel for days lobsters don't travel well, so it hammers up prices . if the weather is hot because we knew they die before seeing a cooking pot. you guys need to set up a Co op and sell the product locally. Get rid of the bloody middlemen who export . you would get better prices and depend on less product to sell . If I can find a lobster in the UK, it's crazy money . we literally can't buy fresh crab or lobster its heart breaking, knowing so much of what you catch is dumped dead in the EU, and they end up with limp weak half dead product in coolers .that product should be available here . Processing crab meat into pots takes seconds with a compressor and could demand good prices and could be sold before it's even had time to cool down . Or then sold as frozen very easily untouched . Why is it if we look for lobsters on seaside towns its normally north American lobster tails when there's guy like you landing fresh ones sometimes yards from fishmongers on seafronts selling shelfish imported from all over the world . Even the cod we buy over the counter is alaskan or North American haddock in our chippys . When boats land top grade products, it should be sold and processed at the harbour . If all the skippers of small boats got together, you could take back control of what you catch and your price would reflect its true value not what some dummy needs to sell for to compensate for dead loss at a factory in Luxembourg because hot weather kills a massive percentage of what is shipped to them .that's why winter prices are good . theres less products, it stays alive in cooler weather . Like those 4 crab you threw back if you sold them off the boat, you could ask more for them than you get for your lobster from the buyer During lockdown, I had a local fisherman delivering shellfish to the door. For example the only place I could get life crab out of a tank I was paying £8 per lb ! Lobster was £17 per lb, and it was brought to the shop in glasgow from Ayrshire
@onemanandhisboat3 ай бұрын
Well, that has to be the best explanation on why we get poor prices. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain. 😁👌 All the very best. Baz 😉👍
@Fishhunter03 ай бұрын
@onemanandhisboat it's what I call the panda effect . If pandas weren't endangered, they wouldn't be worth millions to charity's . What they do with live shipping of shelfish is exactly the same if you think about the daily landings of crab and lobsters every day for export theres not enough bellys in the Europe to eat tons of crab every day
@onemanandhisboat3 ай бұрын
@Fishhunter0 that's too true, when you think about it. But still, why is it always the fishermen that have to take the hit. I mean, things are hard enough as is without that on top of it 🙄🙈 But it does really explain why they are so low...poor wee beasties too.🦞🦞🦞 hellish life they have in the end.😞
@Fishhunter03 ай бұрын
@onemanandhisboat just £££s mate thats all sellers on the top think of . But they give the local rule makers really nice dinners and board and lodging wile they sit down with them to lobby for the rules that screwed us for years

Hell of a lot of work even tho you got 48 it’s probably didn’t make anything from that trip at all most likely cast more than that to be out there I feel sorry for you guys £5 odd a lobster say you made £300 for the day fuel your time and the wear on the boat and gear money gone I have heard boys down the south coast getting £12.50 to £14.00 this week for a lobster things need to change for the Scottish fleet baz

Hi Mark. Thank you so much for your comment. You are absolutely spot on. Funny thing is, it's been this way for decades, and only now with social media, the public are getting a better understanding on what the small business owner is having to put up with just to make a living. Now we know why they guys are sticking ever more gear in. They have to make ends meet. Your right things have to change, but will they🤷♂️🙈 as we are acting as individual businesses, until fishermen stand together as one, only then things will change. 😁👌 I always hope for that day to come, but I don't think I'll see it in my lifetime.
