Hi Mike, great video as usual. The quality of the content of your channel is just amazing. Your experience, your communication skills and your jokes, makes of it one of my favourites, so THANK YOU. When for a video explaining how to use the hide from a practical perspective in order to approach wildlife?, when and where to set it up?, tricks being inside, etc. Best regards form Spain.

I like a hide because I can wait comfortably in a chair, then shoot photos of waterfowl at the water level laying on my belly when the ducks are swimming by. My favorite is a Guide Gear Deluxe Pop-Up hide that cost about $50.

Interesting video Mike. I agree with you, sitting in a hide allowing the birds to come close is a great way to photograph the wildlife and one of my favourite ways to photograph birds. I have a Buteo single man hide and have had some difficulty folding it back down so that it fits inside the carrier bag it came in. Once you learn how to do it it's easy but not initially. Here in Queensland Australia, the polyester can become uncomfortable in anything but the winter months. Another good tip is to take some water with you and in the Australian bush, there are always the dreaded ants to contend with. The internal pockets are great to carry a supply of repellent.

Just a quick thank you for creating the content you do. The weather this week has been miserable most of the time so my time out in the field has been limited. I watched your Little Grebe video and never realised these were so close to me on the Cromford Canal! I had a walk down their yesterday and found them straight away. Will be returning in the spring for their mating plumage.

Brilliant, thanks for this Mike. The Buteo tent looks like a brilliant hide and I’m surprised it’s not one of the popular options when you search on google. Took me a bit of digging to come across it. I think I will get one now. Cheers

Thanks for the insight. I am going to purchase a chair hide, it appears to be exceptionally practical as it folds down into a backpack. Now I have quite a few acres of private farm land to wander about on, it will be ideal.

Great video, although wish you'd given us more information about the invisible hide at the end. I had a Jamie Wood hide when I started bird photography in the nineties. It came to a sticky end when it was run over by a tractor somewhere near Cardiff. Just as well I wasn't in it at the time! The only thing that survived was the head of my Benbo Trekker tripod.

Hi! I am considering buying a bag hide and one that pop out at me is EVO Oak by outdoorphotographygear. It is very small, lightweight and gives you full view as it is semi-translucent. But based on your experience, does semi-translucent material work as a camo material? I mean does it cover me enough from the eye of a bird? Or does it have to be made of solid fabric?
@MikeLaneFRPS Жыл бұрын
Semi-translucent sounds like the clear-view netting I use in my wooden hides. Works there because inside the hide is dark. Not sure how that would work on a bag hide. I use a bag hide made of light cotten. It does need to be lightweight else it is very uncomfortable.
@przybylskipawel Жыл бұрын
Well... this semi-translucent one weighs 500g. Regular is around 750g. Not much, I guess

Hi Mike. Thanks for the video. quick question if I may? I'm looking for a hide I can use from my mobility scooter. Now, obviously I would have to enter the hide from the back or somewhere, but I would need it to open out fully so that I could just 'drive' in! Can you recommend anything? The two-man one that you showed would be big enough but doesn't seem to open fully. Many thanks.
@MikeLaneFRPS3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ash, The hide doors do not fully open. It is very easy to pull the hide over the top of you and I do that 50% of the time rather than use the door. I just sit on my stool and lift up one edge of the hide pulling it over my head. Both the Buteo hides would be hard to erect and fold from a sitting position though. Mike
@ashstubbings26033 жыл бұрын
@@MikeLaneFRPS My apologies for the delayed response to your message. I think what I might do is just go for the cheapest option and buy some Camo Netting to just drape over the scooter. Thanks for your help.

Main hide I use is a single person one from Wildlife Watching Supplies. More like a tent to put up and with a snood for your lens. I've also got a cheaper one from ebay, one of those that disc types that spring out into a square hide, which I'll leave out for days at a time. Biggest problem I have is after a while sitting on a fold out stool one of my legs is guaranteed go to sleep =)
