The only time two of the Great Unifiers fought each other directly. What a sight to behold.
@shawnespinoza9300Ай бұрын
Not trying to pick a fight or anything like that. I know people say there are 3 Great Unifiers of Japan. I do not see how that is possible. Tokugawa usurped the position AFTER the country was unified by Hideyoshi. So how can you unify what is already unified? Oda Nobunaga did not unify Japan. You do not get a Nobel prize for “Attempted Physics”.
@BlueStrategosJАй бұрын
@shawnespinoza9300 It's the traditional view of Japan's unification. Nobunaga started the process, Hideyoshi mostly finished it and Ieyasu solidified it (as after Hideyoshi's death there was a true possibility of Japan splintering again). This is of course a simplified depiction of events.
@nm7358Ай бұрын
More like stared at each other for weeks. The battle was basically the first who blinked, lost. Since neither blinked, Hideyoshi went "meh, whatever" and made a peace deal with Oda Nobukatsu instead to divide Ieyasu's forces into a stalemate.
@Alzurath-MetalАй бұрын
We need a whole video series dedicated this time period of Japan. From the very beginning in 1467, to Ieyasu becoming shogun in 1603. This is my favorite time period of Japan. So many characters and stories happening at once. It's very interesting, and would love to see a whole series based on it.

You might enjoy the game Sengoku. Made by Paradox before the typical Paradox DLC shoveling practices: meaning, a decently made game. Its also not as popular as their other games, so its considerably cheaper. I especially like it for the diplomacy options. Check it out.

Possibly, but he had a problem regardless. You can't just have a large group.of soldiers walking around in peace time. The failure in Korea was kinda nessicarry for the long term peace that tokugawa would end up making

Hey, I am a huge fan of your channel and really enjoy your videos, especially the ones about the Byzantine Empire. I appreciate how you strive for historical accuracy and avoid providing false information. I have a suggestion that I believe many viewers, including myself, would love to see. I’d like you to cover the Macedonian restoration, particularly focusing on Basil II’s reconquest of Bulgaria and his wars against the Muslims in the east. I know you’ve made a video on this topic before, but I would love to see you remake it now that your videos have improved significantly. I envision it looking similar to your documentaries on Alexios. Thank you for taking the time to read my comment!

The Japanese had a parable: The Three Unifiers of Japan, Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu discussed about a songbird that refuses to sing: Oda Nobunaga: Says, "If the bird doesn't sing, I will kill it". Toyotomi Hideyoshi: Says, "If the bird doesn't sing, I will threaten it". Tokugawa Ieyasu: Says, "If the bird doesn't sing, I will wait until it does". Tokugawa Ieyasu outlived the previous 2 and was very, scarily patient.

Finally, Hideyoshi's army vs. Ieyasu's army with Tadakatsu Honda in the Battle of Komaki Nagakute, which then Ieyasu won against Hideyoshi and Ieyasu promised to serve Hideyoshi as his general, but then again in the Edo period of Japan Toyotomi Hideyoshi's power was declined prosperity until The Battle Of Sekigahara in October 1600's. Like you said, K&G Meiji Restoration came in Japan in 1868 when the imperial Japan was established and defeated remnants of the Tokugawa clan. Also at 11:50 Yada River in Japan quite reminds me of Yalu river from The Goreyo Dynasty in Korea. As well as Yellow river from the Xia dynasty, three various countries had it's own river name.

This was the battle that later led to Ieyasus rule.
@shion2085_blueriderАй бұрын
In this war, Ieyasu won tactically, but Hideyoshi won strategically. Hideyoshi first held a solo peace talks with Nobukatsu Oda. Then there would be no reason for Ieyasu to fight, and he also made peace with Hideyoshi. Afterwards, Hideyoshi stripped Oda Nobukatsu of his daimyo status and exiled him. He also unified Japan by defeating local feudal lords who had sided with Ieyasu and Oda Nobukatsu. Hideyoshi is truly a genius.

Inuyama castle is one of the only 12 castles preserved from Edo Jidai till nowadays. Big number were destroyed/abandoned since Meiji reform, then more than five dozens were destroyed by US bombing in WW2 (Maybe Hiroshima castle was the only one destroyed by atomic bomb) Ikeda Terumasa would build the best of the only 12 preserved castles after the battle of Sekigahara. Himeji Castle is regarded as the finest surviving example of prototypical Japanese castle architecture in Edo Jidai
