Took the dive & bought a 150, plus the 780E which seems higher quality than the inexpensive USB drives available these days. Only problem is an odd one - it seems impossible to remove the protective film over the display. I've tried everything I can think of. There's just no room between the display and the chassis. There are even threads on Rose's forum from others asking how to get the dam stuff off. Could you share how you removed the film?

Do you recommend isolation footers under the CD drive and/or the 150? If so, any particular brands/models?

Does t need the 780E to upload music from CD's? Or can you just use a CD or BlueRay player that's conncted to it?
@YorkshireAV2 жыл бұрын
Hello! It has to be a USB connected drive - it can be any generic USB CD/DVD player from my experience. HiFi Rose have released the RSA780 as a 900g CD drive for ripping to FLAC. NB - you need an onboard SSD if you intend to rip :) yorkshireav.co.uk/products/hifi-rose-cd-drive?_pos=1&_psq=rsa&_ss=e&_v=1.0

Which preout level settings do I need to use on my RS150B? Currently I have it turned off. Does it depend on the type of amps or recievers? Is it safe to check one by one to see which one better? Thanks
@YorkshireAV2 жыл бұрын
You only really need to use the pre-out setting if you're using the device as a streamer. If you are using it as a pre-amp, you must not set this mode else you risk damaging your equipment (it'll be very loud!). You should use an output mv that is relative to your other source inputs into your integrated amplifier. ie. play a CD into an input and take not of the SPL/level. Then try it with the streamer set to 1000mv. If the volume is lower, increase the output to 2000mv etc until you match the line output/gain across all inputs.

@@YorkshireAV I am using as a streamer. It goes to my receiver mcintosh mx180 and then to my mono amps mc901. Thank you so much 🙏🏼

Is there any difference between the two chips? Does the units sound diferente?... I mean, the Rs150 and the Rs150b... Thanks in advance :)
@YorkshireAV3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Very little difference. With everything unchanged - the only noticeable difference was approx 1.5db of output (louder) with the AK chip over the ESS. In terms of sound quality - both are evenly matched.

@@YorkshireAV Thanks for your reply :)... Recently I bought a pair of PCM twenty5.24 and I'm in the market for a streamer and an amplifier... My old equipment don't do justice to the PCMs... I heard the Rose RS150 with am Hegel H390 and it sounded very good!... Then I tried the Rose RS250 (in the same setup) with the new chip and the sound was very different!... It was a night and day difference for me... But, because I didn't hear the 150b (with the new chip) I don't know if the difference that I heard, is a result of a better overall product or a chip difference... The 250 sound was lean, analytical and very detailed. The 150, was warm, full body and a little less detailed... What do you think? Thanks again :)

@@mtelles2000 sorry for the delay - a busy day in the shop! What you’re likely hearing with the RS250 is the DAC and power supply combination working as designed. The 150/150b is a fuller sound overall and as you suggested, slightly warm of neutral. Remember the amplifier and the speakers can affect this too. It’s why we’ve got on so well with the Primary i35 and the Leema Acoustics Quasar as a combination with the RS150b - they naturally allow the warmth to pass through.

@@YorkshireAV Thanks a lot for your help :)))... I couldn't find anyone online talking about the sound difference between the RS150 and RS150b... Wish a lot of success for you and your store :)... If I were not in Portugal I would pay you a visit LOL...

Interesting discussion. Well the RS150 costs 2k more. But is it worth against the RS250 in point of sound?

Slot loaders are for mobile head units, they’ll nick-up your discs over time, to the point of non-repairable skipping, they should be avoided altogether🙈💩.

Whilst you need to supply the technical side as a rather old school listener and collector of CD & CD-R I am none the wiser having watched your video. As I guess I am typical of your target market ie cannot be doing with downloaded music, don’t want to be wearing headphones all the time and enjoying the physical CD library a more straightforward description would be welcome. For example I understand what a Brennan does as he very simply explains simply what it does. For example having watched this video I still have no idea it this machine actually stores all the CD’s as digital files.
