Yeah that was the point lol. I'm just having fun man. I can see it bothers you a little. Most of my old videos actually *aren't* better lol. Since scripting the newer ones and getting to the point quicker, my watch % has gone way up from 20-30% to over 50%, but you wouldn't know that because it's not your channel, and these aren't your videos. I know exactly what I'm doing. The problem with the audiophile niche is that people tend to take themselves and this hobby way too seriously. As another commenter said "What sets you apart from the rest is that you take your *work* seriously, but you don't take *yourself* seriously." And I don't. I can poke fun at other people, and myself. It's not that big of a deal. Society has become so oversensitive about everything, and to me it's just prime opportunity to double down on making fun of it. If you don't like it, that's completely fine Just un-sub and leave. But I'm not going to cater to others' expectations. I make videos exactly how I want and adjust the formula according to statistics, not reactionary comments. Those 84 who appreciate it will stick around and support me. The 5 that don't: Bye. I just don't really care that much.

No worries man. I have been doing a lot of different voices, inflections, tones, and things on this channel to see what works and what doesn't. I found that being "excited" sounds kind of gimmicky when I personally do it. I think people mostly do enjoy the British accent. My regular voice is just kind of boring if I talk like I normally do, but scripted I suppose it's a bit better. I'm mostly a very laid back guy so it's a challenge trying to find a good "radio" voice if you will. People are going to complain regardless of what I do, so that's why I'm just having fun with it.

Hey Guys! Just a few things I forgot to mention: 1) Alternatively, you could go with either the wired version of the DEVA (which is more affordable than the deluxe), or just go with a 2020 revision 400i, which mimics the incredible build/comfort of the DEVA, but in all black. Looks sexy and it's cheap asf. I will likely be buying one for the studio. Links to all are in the description :)👆 2) There's no point in investing in a 4XX anymore because of what I just said. 3) To re-iterate, you are taking a gamble purchasing a Sundara, but not everyone is going to have issues with the connections/driver imbalance. It's just a roll of the dice type of thing that you have to accept if you prefer that warmer flavor of sound. The DEVA's sound is more like the original 400i, and so is the 2020 revision of said 400i. -------------------------- ⌚Timestamps -------------------------- Build - 0:40 IT'S DUMMY THICC! - 1:11 The next screw that falls out, is gonna be you - 1:36 Comfort - 2:30 Sound - 3:22 Hey, MELLOW OUT, MAN!! 3:44 Stu's Bass Head EQ Preset - 4:25 Antoine I'm Lookin' At You, HOMIE - 4:45 Soundstage - 4:54 Is Mayonnaise An Instrument? 5:38 Other Differences: 5:59 Amplification - 6:21 Genre Pairing - 6:48 Final Word/EXTRA! Well I returned my 400i 2020 because of driver imbalance issue. Now looking for a new pair. Thought going to sundara would be an upgrade and reliable, but I guess I'll have to switch brands. I don't really think the hifiman have taken anything seriously at all. Hifiman said the issue was due to bad cable and replaced the same but the issue still persisted. The dealer was kind enough to test the cans again and offer me a refund. Do you have any suggestions?

Also another point to addon. Saw a review on Amazon in my country that his 400i 200 had driver imbalance issue and the replaced unit again had the imbalance issue. I wonder if hifiman hand pics the units sent for review. And the general public gets units that are not even qc tested

Thank you so much for addressing the numerous questions from the community that hassled you on the difference between the 2 (myself included :D ). Some things to mention: 1) The cable for the Deva is balanced on one and and unbalanced on the other. So a regular cable will not work. 2) DEVA is 219$ on wired version only, a substantial discount over the Sundara at 350$.
@HomeStudioBasics4 жыл бұрын
Hey man! Yes If you read the pinned comment I addressed the wired version (bare bones) vs. Deluxe (BT). #1 is good, but The BT version supports both balanced and single ended cables. Did you mean the wired version is single ended only?

@@HomeStudioBasics I was under the impression that there are no differences in wiring with the DEVA and DEVA BT. I read on other reviews that the cable that goes into the DEVA cup is a 3.5 mm balanced 4 pin jack, and the other end of the cable is a 3.5mm 3 pin unbalanced jack.

@@CraciunAlexandruGh This is true ( I own the Deva.) It means that you have the option to buy a balanced cable for it if you want to. The deva is already wired for balanced, but it does both. Personally I dont use a balanced amp, so the stock cable is just fine for me.

The wired DEVA is definitely one of the best purchases out there for headphones. You do need a smidge of power if you want to use them on a phone. The more clean power you can breathe into them the more you'll get out of them as an experience. They are the smoothest headphone I own and really the only one I have that make it possible to listen to recordings from the '60s onward. Roy Orbison, Bob Marley, Smokey Robinson, Frank Sinatra, Al Green, Tom Petty, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, James Brown..
@HomeStudioBasics4 жыл бұрын
Wonderful comment man! The DEVA can be quite an eye opening experience, and I agree wholeheartedly; it does need a bit more juice than I was expecting. Everything I've used with it works great except for the SoundBlaster G3 which is too under powered to perform optimally. Agree on the cable; it kind of annoys me actually. It needs to be a bit more malleable which is something I missed in the comparison. I guess it doesn't bother me enough to comment, but there are times when I've been irritated moving the headphone around because it just gets caught on stuff lol. I really like it with the hip-dac and was listening just yesterday. I don't even think it needs any EQ with that dac either because of what you said (and about bass as well). I firmly believe that right now, the DEVA is the best overall value in audio. It combines everything that makes a headphone great, and adds an AMP/DAC as well as BT into the mix. It targets all demographics (Audiophiles, casual listeners, and even gamers) while providing the amazing planar sound, impeccable comfort levels, and an almost perfect build. I have and will continue to recommend it over most everything else. It's almost like the new HD600 or something. Thank you so much for your continued support! Keep me posted on your decision. I will be eternally grateful if you decide to purchase something through one of my links. :) Take care and talk soon.

@@HomeStudioBasics had I gone with the Dragonfly Red or Hip DAC I'd of used your links especially given how helpful your videos have been. But alas, I went with the Earman Sparrow from Moon Audio who is in Cary, NC apparently? Who knew.. The Sparrow is a direct competitor to the Dragonfly thus the name - because Sparrows eat Dragonflies. 😐 Bars. Anyway the main appeal or the Sparrow was (seemingly) better build quality, comes with OTG and USB cables, small form factor with no controls, and single-ended and balanced options. Which means I'm gonna have to invest in the Meze balanced cables for my Elegias. When I do that I will use your links. Only thing I have balanced presently are my Shouer Tapes, which I love but have yet to use them balanced. Initial reviews seem to be very kind to the Sparrow but that could be because people seem fed up with Audio Quest. I don't know, all I know is I wasn't comfortable with the value proposition of the Red or the Cobalt. For 200 buck give me cables and a 5 year warranty at least.

@@dasninjastix No worries man! I live in Raleigh, NC actually, so very close by! I need to go over there and have a gander at their stuff. :) I'll also have to look up the Sparrow. Is her first name Roberta? Haha let me know if you caught that reference. Anyways, how are you liking the Elegia? I was not a huge fan actually when I heard it a couple years ago. Something about it sounded really off to me. It was like the treble/mid-range was completely wonky. Hard to explain since its been awhile but I'll never forget the reaction I had at the time. The Focal rep at Audio Advice was all stoked about it and he's like "so what did you think!?!" All happy smiley bros. And I didn't have the heart to tell him, but in hindsight I most certainly should have. LOL - "yeah it was pretty cool man" xD
@dasninjastix4 жыл бұрын
@@HomeStudioBasics I really like the Focal sound but the Elegias are a flat/neutral sound without an EQ. Without amplification they put through a lot of controlled sound imo, but it's taller than it is wide. I think that's the weirdness you describe. There's a lot of sound coming through at you at a concentrated (focal?) point. It spreads out and rebounds in the cups so it can sound tall, like a wall of sound that hits at the center of your ear and the rest of the sound spreads around that upwards and downwards before left and right. Now.. with EQ and amplification? Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. You can widen the sound stage and clean up the mids which are too loud and too forward. The high end works for me. The low end has moderate extension but is extremely clean sounding. I've read claims that if you wear eye glasses (which I do) that the bass will bleed out of the seal but this is nonsense. They are not a bass-y headphone. You can pair them with warmer amplification but you're going to have to EQ them imo to get their full potential. It works with my preferred sloping of levels from 200 hz to 1.6khz before I even out and peak the treble at the 6.3 khz range before tapering off. I'm not a fan of this 5-6 DB drops from band to band, even when I had them old analog EQs on Walkmans I always sloped the shelving to more a continuous wave than a staircase. But to each their own. I got them for 52% off. So 425ish? For that price 🤗. But you gotta want a cleaner, airer, fuller (not thick but rich), more encompassing sound. The Elegias translate sounds I simply cannot register on my other headphones without raising the volume to an unreasonable degree. So while I love them, I don't think they're a slam dunk of a general recommendation. I think pairing them with the Zen DAC is fine but they would probably do better with a Schiit Multibit. I think if you pair them with a THX amp it could probably be too sharp and too resolving to be pleasant however that's just speculation on my part. In summation: Elegias + EQ + quality amplification = 🔥 but only if you like clean closed sound with lots of layers. Like a lot. More than 2 for sure. I love the extension on them but I'm a Focal Stan, take that with a grain of salt. They're also comfortable for my ears and built like a tank. Oh and you can use the cable it comes with to scale a castle if you need to or saw down a tree in a pinch. It's the stiffest, jankiest cable. It's like a fabric jumper cable. I use the Meze 99s cable. It's long but not a single kink, like Mike Pence. Not a Donnie Darko fan so the reference sailed past me Sir. Apparently Goth chicks dig it but by the time it came out my Goth girl chasing days were over. (Edit) and if you get the chance, or if you have already, I'd love to know your opinion of the Dan Clark Aeons 2s. Specifically the closed.
@HomeStudioBasics4 жыл бұрын
Bro first off you gotta watch Donnie Darko. It's way deeper of a movie than some give it credit for. In fact there's an incredible theme behind it which I'm going to be talking about in my thematic top 5 films of all time series. Def not gothy. Donnie has a clear mission in the film, he kind of knows it but kind of doesn't. It's very spiritual in a lot of ways. Anywho, about the Elegia. I'll probably end up demoing them again soon. I really love the Utopia (probably best I've personally heard) and Stellia from what I heard last year. Elear was pretty bad to me, Clear a bit better but kind of meh for the price. Haven't heard the Elex apparently they fixed the issues with the others. For that price on the Elegia, absolutely I don't blame you, esp. if you can get it to sound how you want. I'm kind of torn on EQ vs no EQ. Being a beat maker I understand the importance of it and do like it from time to time, but I mostly just like to listen to headphones as is. I reached out to Dan a few months ago and no response. Loved the first version. Probably my favorite closed headphones of all time actually. Closed Aeon + MOJO was OHMYGOD amazing to me. No worries! So right now I have 5 headphones here at the pad. Original HD600, HIFIMAN DEVA, AKG K612, AKG K702, and Philips SHP9500. Out of these, I def use the DEVA the most. Being a planar, everything about it is better than your traditional dynamic headphone. It sounds more natural and realistic, with better instrument Timbre and overall resolution. It's like giving yourself the cold water splash in the morning. Everything becomes super crystal clear and more revealing. It's an effortless type of sound, and very smooth. Soundstage is above average, and imaging is exceptional. To me, the DEVA is a perfect headphone; build is pretty much perfect, comfort is perfect, and the sound is very close. You will notice some bite/essy at 8-10kHz, but you may enjoy the sparkle more so than I do. I tend to prefer darker sounding treble nowadays found in something like an Audeze. The HD600 is a headphone that I will always keep around because it's a good benchmark sound and never ceases to amaze me when I put it on my head after a long hiatus. The 9500 is great for when I want to hear a lot of air around the instruments, as well as a ton of micro detail and articulation out of the music. I also use it when gaming or watching film. The K612 is great for Classical as it's a bit more warmed over than the K702, which I use a lot for Jazz specifically. The 702 has a very wide Soundstage and tends to work well because Jazz pans hard right and left a lot. The 702 is also very delicate and detailed, so it's good at portraying the mid-bass centric Jazz basses with ease and sounds incredibly natural with other instruments as well. The K612 works better for Classical because Classical tends to go from quiet to loud very fast, and normally you'll be reaching for the volume knob quite frequently. With the 612, I find I'm doing this less often. I also use both the 702 and 612 for gaming and film. Both work extremely well for lighter genres like Acoustic and folk, but still sound really good with Rock, Indie Pop, and other heavier genres. Amps and DACS are kind of a sore subject for me, lol. I have like 9 of them here, and have demoed over 30, but I've found that they are incredibly overrated and the differences between them are extremely subtle. For instance, I demoed like 6 of them back to back in my Creative G6 review and found the differences to be incredibly marginal, as in: I didn't really give a sh**. XD kzbin.info/www/bejne/pH60epyCh82Jb8k So for you, I'd probably recommend a DEVA with something like a G6 or Zen DAC/Amp, which can be found in the store. You could even go with the wired version of the DEVA and save money. I was reviewing the BT version with all the extras. I like the G6 with the DEVA because I can use the SoundBlaster Connect App to EQ the sound if I want (as mentioned in the video) :) Truly my friend, I wouldn't go crazy trying to decide on an amp. It's just not that serious. You could also go with something like a K5 Pro since it has more power. Do you game on console or anything? I personally use the DEVA with all of my amps here, but I'd say I use the G6 the most because I can use the G6's SoundBlaster connect app which allows me to EQ the sound if I want. Let me know what you think. I know it's a lot but it's necessary in helping you because you're new. :) If you'd like to get a sense of what I listen to, here's my DEVA playlist: open.spotify.com/playlist/0rFM0eTdUPrT3yszXygkNz?si=vcW2SL8ORmmvKdKgihJyXg

Thanks for all of your help, I really appreciate it.

Thank you so much man! Yeah just woke up about 45 min. ago and listening too :) "It's Your World" by Common sounds a bit clearer with a DEVA, there's more subtlety that I picked up on with voices and stuff specifically. Some micro detail comes through the DEVA so well. It's incredibly refreshing. Anyways, thank you for using the links! I would say that's a perfect combo. Is the Boom Pro available? And did you see my "Best Gaming Setup for Beginners"? There you can hear the difference. I do like the Mod Mic because you can literally use it with any headphone, but I think he Boom Pro sounds better. What do you think? kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWGZfqSlj8Scg8U

Hey mate, are you gonna get your hands on the new HE-400i 2020? I'm not sure if to go for that or for the Deva currently. Interested in your future thoughts
@HomeStudioBasics4 жыл бұрын
Hey man! Yeah I'm thinking about buying one for the studio actually. Itching to do a comparison to the DEVA as well! If the 2020 revision is anything like the original 400i, and I believe it is, then the sound is pretty similar to the DEVA. Take that with a grain of salt though. Are you wanting to purchase real soon or are you going to wait?

@@HomeStudioBasics Thanks for the kind response. I'm actually in quite a pickle with Hifiman right now, the left earcup on my 3 months old HE-4XX completely fell off and were discussing a replacement. I found a used LCD2C for 350$ including a fiio e12, is it worth it in sound quality over the Deva, Sundara, or 400i?
@HomeStudioBasics4 жыл бұрын
Hey man! Haven't heard the LCD-2C but have heard the rest of the line basically (LCD-1, LCD-2, LCD-3, LCD-4, LCD-X, LCD-XC, etc.) Great sounding headphones, but too heavy for me. I did hear that the classic is lighter though, so for that price? Hard to say no. I do think It would be a slight upgrade in sound quality, yes. I absolutely adore the Audeze house sound, favorites being LCD-X and LCD-2. 4 was a bit too dark for me, but you really can't go wrong with that buttery smooth signature and sick bass. I would only caution you on weight. I have disc issues so wearing an LCD-2 for extended periods really put a lot of strain on my neck.

Alright mate, have you ever tried the hd58xs. Are they worth it? I was thinking instead of getting the k5 get the hd58x that will match the impedance of the k3

Hey man I'm going to be getting a 58X pretty soon for comparison to the 6XX and company but nah I haven't heard it. I heard it's not quite as resolving as the others but has a bit more bass emphasis. Some people say the foam mod makes it better but I just talked to another guy yesterday who said nah it really doesn't and not to bother with the 58X. Take what I'm saying with a grain of salt though. It's def top priority to get one here though :) Why not just get a 6XX?

Does the hip dac work well with the Sundaras? Or is it better with Deva?
@HomeStudioBasics4 жыл бұрын
Hey! I think the hip and Sundara combo would be a tad too warm, but the hip-dac pairs extremely well with a DEVA. The DEVA is also built better and is more comfortable. I really highly recommend it! What type of music do you listen to? Also if you happen to go with the DEVA, purchasing from a link in my article helps the channel and blog out immensely as I do get a kick back :) Let me know! homestudiobasics.com/hifiman-deva-vs-sundara/

@HomeStudioBasics4 жыл бұрын
@@chanpersaud9930 Nice! Love hip-hop and Classical myself! Would love to hear some of your favorites in each genre. The HIFIMAN planar sound just outclasses a dynamic headphone in many ways. You'll notice it's more effortless, natural, buttery smooth, and realistic. Instrument Timbre (the way an instrument may sound in real life vs. the way it sounds through a device) is incredibly life like and revealing. Vocals really shine as well with a DEVA. A planar headphone also portrays the bass, as well as instrument separation and spacing a lot better. There's an unmistakable quality about each that kind of makes you stop and re-analyze what's going on. You will frequently be astounded at how well music is portrayed. An example would be when I listened to Aphex Twin's "Windowlicker" with a DEVA. There are all sorts of little nuances to the song that I wasn't aware of before, most notably the ending where I spotted something in the mix that I haven't heard in 15 years since I started listening to the song in 2005. It was truly remarkable. I always tell people that there is quite a bit of snake oil in this hobby, but the transition from a dynamic headphone to a planar is most certainly not an instance of that. There is a marked and noticeable difference between them. Hope that helps! If you don't need Bluetooth or anything like that, I would most certainly suggest getting a wired DEVA or even a 2020 revision 400i, both of which represent the improved build that HIFIMAN implemented. What do you think? Check out the article. Your support is much appreciated! homestudiobasics.com/hifiman-deva-vs-sundara/

Agree with you. Faced an issue with 400i 2020 - driver imbalance. Hifiman "supposedly" found the issue to be the cable and sent the unit back after 2 weeks with the replacement cable. Only for me to find the same issue again. I wonder if they even tested it before sending it back. Thankfully the dealer agreed to provide a refund after testing.

@@HomeStudioBasics All I hear is bass lines, bass drum, and lower end of synths, sax, electric guitars. Things above ~350Hz are drowned out. Another thing I can hear relatively clearly is Female vocals, which I can’t explain how. They are dead in mids and treble - there is no ‘air’ to the sound and no pluckiness at all. Very recessed. Orchestral music has no resolution or life on my Devas. I got access to AirPods Pro and was shocked with the detail and presence of instruments I was missing out - same file, same source. Why it happened? I have no clue. I used an entry level Fiio A1 with it once - I got Bluemini thereafter. And they suffered a minor drop (nothing really) once. That’s all. I really, REALLY stretched my budget to buy anything hi-fi (mid-fi rather, as they say) for the first time.
