Thanks for a great comparison. Your makalas sound better than average... may be those Martin strings? I'll try a set and see. :)

It's nice to have both high and low sounds, and the quality is great! It would be interesting to hear the difference between the original strings and the ones you replaced them with!

The Low D Tuning sounds great for Pick playing & allows me to play like Tiny Grimes & Nick Reynolds.

Great video Morgana. As I mentioned on our FB group, I much prefer the sound of the Low D. Maybe because I also play the guitar and when I play the ukulele sometimes I miss that deeper bass sound. I use Low G and High G tenors for that reasong and really each one suits best its type of music and songs. Low G for classical and most of fingerpicking songs, blues, rock - I must say however that it always depends on the arrangement. High G for other music, hawaian, folk, traditional music or more joyful songs. It depends also on our mood in each moment. As for the baritone I will go with the Low D but maybe I will end buying a second baritone to string it with a High D.

Thanks. Totally get what you're saying. I mostly play the Low D but it's nice to have the High D there when I need it :)

I play guitar for a long time and wanted to use that knowledge on uke. But I wanted that high 4th string sound of the ukes. So I decided to tune the D an octave higher. I thought it will be a unique thing to do. Then I searched YT and found ppl are already doing it. Aquila even has a set designed just for this for baritone uke. Not sure why you don't like Aquila strings but they make some of the best strings.

String choice is such a personal and subjective thing. Glad they work for you 😊

@@FourInchCats - to clarify I like Aquila strings for my classical guitars and openback banjo. I am not a ukulele player. But considering buying a baritone ukulele and already planning a high D tuning for it. Cannot seem to find a ready to go set of strings that pack a high D string. It is possible to buy an extra E string (1st) and tune it to D for the 4th string. There are a couple string packs with high D but too pricy. How have you solved the high D string problem. What exact string are you using for your high D tuning. Thanks a lot for the tip.

@@jeetray11 when l was experimenting with a high D l used the Living Water high D set. l haven’t tried an E string tuned to D. You could certainly experiment with different strings. These days l play steel string baritone in standard tuning.

I play baritone and can't identify the chords you're playing. Why is that?

One of the things l love about the Baritone Ukulele is the wide range of beautiful chords available. I highly recommend “The Baritone Ukulele Chord Bible” by Tobe. A. Richards 😊🎼

I kindly disagree; it is definitely a third option, but doesn't replace either of the first two - depending on what sound you are looking for. 🙂

@@RockStarOscarStern634Yes they are. but not the sound everyone is looking for. I'm glad I tried one, but I sold it to put the funds towards my steel string baritone, which is where my heart lies. That's one of the wonderful things about music - we can all walk our own individual paths 🙂
