This actually represents how the War of the Beard/Vengeance went pretty aptly. Both the elves and dwarfs poured all their efforts to destroy the other, and while the elves certainly lost, you can't really say the dwarfs "won" in the sense of the word (they were so depleted by the war, they were poorly prepared when the Greenskins and Skaven came for them).

Also many disasters came along. Earthquakes and chaos storms punished the already damaged dwarf fortresses and the Skaven started attacking from below. High in the mountains beastmen, ogres and orcs started attacking the gates and many dwarf cities fell to never be recovered.

personally i would have had the cavalry going from the sides targeting the cannons and flamethrowers/flame buckets and have the archers target the flame buckets, might have changed the outcome. great vid either way, love these cinematic battles.

Agreed, when I played it on the table I always sent in Cav and Fast Cav harassing the artillery and flanks. Also walking your magic user - which are High Elf powerhouses out in front of a gun line solo......not gonna happen either.

Dude I love this battle and your cinematics, you can actually *see* what's going on, there's an actual battleline being used, I mean that can still happen in multiplayer but only at the very beginning, or never at all, or very very little is seen, (with kiting and stuff like that). In other fantasy universes like D&D, Lords of the Rings ect ... I can not explain except the fact that they are naturally contrary (the elves represent ecology while the dwarfs are the industry).

I love my high elves and wood elves too. I have never lost to dwarves. Of course I use a lot more archers and seaguard. I even use light cav, that is usually hidden and takes out enemy war machines. Elves cannot go toe to toe with dwarves and win. A few units can but on the whole getting tied down in a slugging match with some of the best heavy infantry in the game is a losing situation. Move, shoot and run, tie them down a little and swing a unit of cav or fast infantry and hit their flame units and/or guns. Never get locked into a slugging match with them. Concentrate arrows on the units you have the best chance of killing or routing, then after a few units are gone, flank the heavy guys, , thats the way to win. Whoever designed this battle was just doing it to slaughter elves. No decent elf player would ever make mistakes like this in a real game.

I played Green Skins and High Elves and whenever I faced a gun line - I hit it fast or on the flanks.....never with slow moving troops. Also I would never march my powerhouse mage out into the open towards a gun line either.

It seemed pretty dumb that the Elves didn't use their bird to fly behind the Dwarven lines and knock out all of their artillery from behind before they advanced.. Even more effective would have been having a dragon to do the job. The Elves would have also adopted their own gunpowder artillery and flamethrowers as well, given how effective they were. This was basically the same as iron age technology Zulus trying to defeat the late 19th century British Empire.
