Great discussion! Andre is so relaxed and non threatening as a professional and a person.

Fantastic interview. Thank you both. Crazy attention to detail in the set up of that amazing photo. Loved the analysis. Oh my gosh… now so can articulate why I dislike vertical photos so much. We don’t see that way… we see horizontal! - Mike

Thanks, Mike! And yeah, I try to grab a vert shot sometimes, but never like it. I see other people do it and love it, but can’t wrap my brain around my own.

You make it sound so easy... Which is typical of the masters. But you do it in an approchable way. Listening to you guys, I could even believe I could do something just as good. Made for another great listen. Thank you both! Your comment about vertical shots made me smile. I do shoot a lot of verticals. But, I seldom like verticals in 3:2. And here's the thing: my main camera is 4:3. And I do like verticals in that ratio a lot. Have you guys tried other ratios than your camera's native one?

Thanks for watching, as always, Thomas! That’s an interesting point on the ratio. I tend to crop to whatever ratio an image “feels” like. With music, cropping vertically often causes pieces of something left in the frame, and arm, an instrument, something that doesn’t look right to me. The result is me cropping to end up with a clean frame and I end up with any ratio and a shot that doesn’t work for me.

@@BehindTheShot Yeah, for live music, I don't think I've ever wanted to use a vertical composition. So... Then again, I often shoot those square because I bring an Instax printer that only does squares ;) Definitely depends on the kind of photography. I guess.
