You were missing the correct Teflon insulator for your large gas lens which is why your welds came out that way. The cup was probably pulling oxygen from the back side and not allowing proper argon shielding.

@middletonrippberger8 жыл бұрын
The issue with your welds is that you have the amperage way to high for thin stainless. looked like you had it at 85 amp, normally I run about 45 amps on a job like that. also being stainless it should have been back purged to reduce the risk of the welds cracking later.
@middletonrippberger8 жыл бұрын
On a side note you do know that the Vibrant and the oem s2000 cat are both spun metal core cats? and the larger core diameter of the oem cat cores would suggest that it may actually have the higher flow capacity of the two. and you if i'm not mistaken the oem cat has a 60mm (2.36in) inlet and outlet and you dropped that to 2.25in? ........... you should have left the stock cat on.
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын
Given that our car is about 15 years old and meant for both emissions and performance we're willing to bet that the Vibrant cat is better performing. And the stock diameter on the OEM cat is 2.25. Like I said I thought I ordered a 2.5-inch test pipe...

@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
tijean sharpe Peter used to own a ton of DSMs so he knows the 3000GT VR4 very well and it's a gorgeous looking car but the complexity of it and weight keep us from the top of our list of project cars to build next.

Is a HFC the same as a down pipe?
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын
No, one is for emissions the other is what usually connects the manifold/header to the HFC (catalytic converter)
@PowellMoore9 жыл бұрын
I had a strange feeling that pipe was a bit small
@woofer21219 жыл бұрын
how does a smaller cat flow more?
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
Edward Grindstaff Because there is less material to flow through which makes removes the restriction that the factory cat has but still provides the proper filtration to ensure emissions compliance. That's why its such an expensive piece.

So is it 2.5 to 2.25 then back to 2.5?
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
Travis Proteau No, it's 2.25 to 2.5 then back to 2.25. The up size in the cat will only benefit flow but if the cat was the one I ordered then it would have been 2.5 which is ideal for this application. Regardless, being NA the difference doesnt matter.
@SlowDriver20249 жыл бұрын
Why not just get a Magnaflow federal legal cat pipe? Flows better than stock because of less cell count, and it mounts right on, no mess no fuss. :)
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+2MANYCARS Vibrant is local to us and their GESI cat is one of the best for emissions and flow. Hence why we use it but we've heard good things about Magnaflow.

Question: My Colt Czt 2006 has 2 catalytic converters, I removed the 2nd but kept the 1st so the "check engine" light doesn't show and I replaced it with a stainless steel pipe...would it be better to use a High-Flow Catalytic Converter like the vid or just keep it like this? which method actually gives higher air flow? thanks!
@fartknocker72467 жыл бұрын
Modern catalytic converters aren't really restrictive at all. The reason you want to replace them is because stock converters have a ceramic core. They will inevitably melt as exhaust gas temperatures rise. If you're worried about emissions, and live in CA, you're sort of SOL as there aren't any CARB certified metal core cats, but the GESI/Vibrant Performance cat in this video is Canada and US EPA certified. It should pass emissions mostly everywhere other than California. It even keeps the CEL off in my 2016 WRX. It's a real cat that actually reduces emissions unlike other "high flow" cats that come in downpipes from most manufacturers.
@DeKay9 жыл бұрын
Man. Berk makes a high flow cat that's about half that cost and would have been just a simple bolt on!
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
De Kay The Berk hi-flo cat is a magna flow not a Vibrant one. We specifically run the GESI one for emissions purposes.

Frany To the flywheel haha. There's no chance it'll make that much power with just bolt-ons. Especially since we have no tuning.
@SupaNinjaTurtle19 жыл бұрын
+Speed Academy speaking tuning, are you guys planning on sticking the hi flow cat or would consider a test pipe in its place? I know hfc are more emission compliant. From what I know test pipes release a few more horses especially around tuning. Either way, I love the build!!! I've watched every episode 5 times over!!! Lol good job guys!
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
SupaNinjaTurtle1 There's no reason for us to put on a test pipe. The GESI hi flow cat is incredibly efficient and flows so well that we can't imagine a test pipe will pick up power. We may actually test it in the future. Also, the cops here in Ontario will tow the car if its missing a cat so we don't want to take any chances. Oh and amazing to hear that you've watched them so many times :D
@SupaNinjaTurtle19 жыл бұрын
+Speed Academy that would be a nice comparison between the hi flow cat and test pipe on the dyno between tune sessions.Ontario police exactly like Californian police lol yeah better safe than sorry haha Yeah I am a fan of s2000s, I own an S2000, and maybe down the line I'll a much bigger budget. I'm also looking forward to see how you guys do against the jaguar F type with these mods. I think the downforce will be significant.
