Thank u for sharing this video. I’m going through the same thing with my 5 year old daughter. She was diagnosed with Autism High Functioning. She started speaking at 3 and a half y/o. It gets hard for me at times because sometimes I lose my patience and I don’t wanna be like that. I’m getting better the more and more I understand her. She having trouble at school with keeping still, but she is the smartest kid in the class. She makes noises while in class. I do get a lot of phone calls from her teacher about her behavior. But I did let her know she has Autism. She has IEP for school where they provide Speech and ABA. She also goes to a private Occupational and Speech. Everything is a lil challenge for her being sociable because she is an only child. Personal space she doesn’t understand yet. It’s a lot. I cried watching this and It’s a comforting to see that I’m not alone on this battle❤ Thank u

Hey there, I I have an almost 5 year old who the speech pathologist suspects may be on the spectrum. He also is having trouble with personal space. He also has a hard time understanding how to relate to other kids when playing and it often results in kind of picking on them. Have you noticed anything like that with your child?

Ok, just putting this out there. I totally understand. Lex and my son are so similar in many different ways, late talker, super clever, loves mario and paw patrol, and doesn't imagination play, he just lines his toys up and repeats their catch phrases. My son is 5 in May, and very excited for Kindergarten this year. We have lots of sensory issues we're managing as well. He gets the, oh he doesn't look autistic all the time. But they don't see what I see on a daily basis. Both my kids and myself have autism, along with my two half sisters as well. I never compare our autism, but I do think about all our similarities. Like I'm highly emotional, especiallywith sensory overload, so is my daughter. My son and sister are very picky eaters and have limited food, and struggle to keep weight on. I was a picky eater as a child, with things needing to be a certain way, but they are both at the extreme side to it. One of my sisters is really into slimes and sensory input. So is my daughter. It's so fascinating how different we all are, and at the same time, very similar in other ways as well.

Not as much as a serious question, but more for looking back in the future 😁. Hope Lex’ 6th year treats him well and that he has tons of fun, thrives and continues to learn lots of things to make his future great. Have a wonderful weekend!

Our son is 5 and going through the assessment process again. At two they thought he was autistic, but due to the pandemic, he wasn't seen face to face. When he started to talk at 3 they took him off the list, but there is so many things he does that makes us think he is on the spectrum. He stutters now and finds it difficult to communicate with us. He was terrified of other children, but is now playing with them and interacting with them. He is an over achiever and sets high goals for himself. He is like Lex where he only eats certain foods, depending on their colour and texture.

My son is 18 years old now, and he was Diagnosed with Autism on the high functioning side when he was 8 or 9 years old. My son's father and his family still to this day do not believe that my son is Autistic, they refuse to accept it and choose to attribute it to my parenting, smh. So I know what that's like and not just that side of the family but anyone who isn't familiar with Autism and the many spectrums associated with it, think that my son is a typical young adult. It can be frustrating when getting him assistance in certain areas.

We are watching my five year old daughter for high functioning autism. She had been diagnosed with adhd by a pediatric neurologist, but he kept questioning why I was there and told me to buy a book on difficult children. I waited a year and a half for a second opinion with a very good developmental pediatrician (during this time she was receiving speech therapy, occupational therapy, and play therapy through the school district and was able to go to a special needs pre-school with the help of her daycare manager). The developmental pediatrician agreed with the adhd diagnosis and added anxiety. She does notice some behaviors of high functioning autism so we are watching how she does in kindergarten (which is hard because they keep going back and forth between being fully remote and going two days a week due to covid). But she is very black and white in her thinking, she can’t get past her idea of right/wrong, and can’t understand others points of view/emotions in situations. She is a bit awkward socially and plays better with boys than girls, she tends to be more wild in her play. She is now developing phobias like things going down the heat vents and wants to do odd things like collect her fingernails. It’s all so hard to deal with on a daily basis, but I really worry about her future and how she will deal with “real life” problems. She is five, life shouldn’t be so rough. 😔

Just not like other kids. I remember holding him the night he was born. Still, I'd change nothing. I guess my goal is to have him be happy, healthy and loved. He too is classified as "mild" but it's not really how I see it. It's a challenge.

He loves his numbers and drawings. My son also gets pronouns and he/she het mixed up as well. Thank you so much for this video. People always say how intelligent he is. I also need to help him with assisting certain things. I felt like I was talking to myself in this video. Beckett will draw for hours here at home. He’s in OT at school and out. He can’t go to the bathroom with this loud flushers. He gets extremely scared. Anything loud or too busy is too hard on him. We still go to places that are a little less crazy. I agree with you about the term ‘mild’ as the effect on the childs life is anything but mild. I also never liked the term developmental delay as so many kids conditions are permanent not a delay. Delay suggests they will catch up which of course is often not the case at all.

So far every single symptom/trait is my lil girl. And me realizing how much I went through masking myself my whole life! Self diagnosed so far!! Keeping her out of Kindergarten because I'm not going to have her running around in gen pop for a couple months until she gets the IEP. I want to do the ABA first.. 😢 sigh.. I'm bawling.. it's like I actually always knew she had ASD and/or ADHD; but no one believed me!!! Not family is finally like OH I get it! Because she is so intelligent/photographic memory/ big vocab. But I was like I've been researching since she was 1. I'm around her 24 7 365, just me and her.. but even still - after the Dx and all of the online support groups, I'm so so emotional because I never want my kids to struggle and I will always feel like I'm not doing enough to help. I feel so guilty when burnt out - not even from her autism - from ASD, and single motherhood in poverty! ❤❤❤ thank you for this video and I will definitely follow! Our kids are so so so similar!!!!

@ЛупетањеГлупости13 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying that's the case in this example. But when asking the question, in general you have to be perfectly precise with words, to be properly understood. To be a dog might be very logical response when you reconsider your question. Because you didn't ask what he wants to DO, but what he wants to BE, and that is different. Grown up people use phrases to witch they ascribe meaning those words usually have in conversation. But ascribed meaning doesn't have to match literal meaning. . If you want to ask how someone wants to earn money for living, than be precise. To be or to do is not same thing. Being dog or being human, is not about doing but about being. I'm just saying.

I can so relate to what you're saying about Lex's progression when it comes to Autism. I didn't start talking until I was around about 3 and a half and most of the main problems that Lex had, I had like language problems and being slightly behind developmentally like for example the question about what I want to be when I'm older and I had eating issues as well. As for finding out myself why I had Autism and what it was and why I was different, I was diagnosed aged 4 and a half but didn't find out that I was autistic until I was 8 years old so it's probably normal that Lex hasn't asked yet but be patient because he could ask about his autism at any point in the future.
@QuinnLoftis3 жыл бұрын
I feel like you just completely described my 6.5 year old autistic son. He was diagnosed at 3 years of age. He’s been in ABA therapy since then and has done all the other therapy’s. He was diagnosed last summer with ADHD and 3 learning disabilities. I get the comments from people who say “he doesn’t seem autistic” which is utterly annoying. Jonivan was evaluated by 5 specialist and diagnosed by all of them. But he presents in many ways as typical except in social areas. His social skills are the biggest issues. He tells me everyday that he doesn’t have any friends, but he never seems sad about it. It’s just sort of a fact. He can’t initiate interaction with kids but he can incorporate to play but then because of his odd behavior they then avoid him. Any ways, thank you for sharing this.

My son is 5, also high functioning. He doesn't speak as well as your son. 90% of people don't understand him. He doesn't count, know any shapes besides circle. He doesn't write, not even 1 letter. He has ADHD worse then Autism so that's his biggest issue ADHD/ODD severe. She said one of the worse cases. Meaning he never sits. You ask him something he runs around screaming and doesn't answer even if he knows the answer. He has 0 focus. He's been in therapies but we also have to start medication. It's been absolutely a nightmare. He's destroyed so much. We also have to restrain him at times and it takes two-three people because he would harm someone or something. He can't be in a regular class at the point, it's too bad. His case is really bad with adhd and ODD. ODD is probably worse then anything. There are short times he will play and he has a good memory for 5. He can remember events from 2-3.

My son seems " normal" but it's when you really get to experience days with him where you learn something is not going well. Frustration, non- patient, he gets overwhelmed easily, he ha lots of energy,when he can't sleep at night in morning he gets crabby at times others is like okay mom get ready for school. His speech isn't where it should be as a 5 year old. He has a big obsession with certain things he ends up watching.he catches on things he shouldn't catch of siblings or even us parents. He repeats stuff several times, But very smart he has memoriezed letters of the alphabet. They tell me he has development delay has not been diagnosed due to him being very young. Guy who saw him and evaluated him at the behavioral center said he tries to manipulate us to get him what he wants and he's very young for a right diagnosed. 😒 Not sure what to do. But I do treat him the same as my older children. I don't try to baby him when I know he's done something wrong, cuz I feel like he knows and can tell when we are angry or upset. I feel this teaches him he can't always get away with things Especially around dad. Also teaches his emotions. When he pushes I tell him that's not okay, etc I make him apologize. I know he can't help it but me as a mom got to teach him to respect others and their boundaries.

When you say everything that your son knows I stop and think because my son was just Diagnosed with lv 1 autism he is high functioning he also has adhd my son just started kindergarten in August and they don’t want to give him any services he knows how to write his name but not how to spell it out loud doesn’t know his abc knows some shapes and he just learned the state where he lives he knows my phone number and the pledge of Allegiance colors and numbers has trouble after 10 but doesn’t really know how to write it …the school at most wants to give my son a 504 plan for the adhd and not an iep because there is no goals and honestly I just don’t get it
