I agree... I want to like the MT15 so that I can buy it and have Mark's HUGE Alter Bridge tone but it sounds congested with too much low mids. I like the EVH... probably because it sounds like my soldano astroverb (aside from the slight hint of fuzzy fizz the EVH has). So now I will go back to being content with my amps! :) The only negative of the astroverb is the single channel, but it cleans up nicely with the guitar volume knob and I have a Blues Jr for a clean channel.

I agree with you. I'm a huge Alter Bridge/Tremonti fan so naturally I feel like I should appreciate the MT15 more. I've always loved the clarity in Tremonti's heavy riffs and I like his loyalty to analog equipment, but this EVH 5150 III was more pleasing to my ear. And that's okay too. I love Gojira's tones also, and Joe Duplantier uses EVH 5150 III.

The MT15 is the kind of amp that sounds awesome when you play through it by itself, but it can disappear a bit in a mix. The EVH don't sound quite as refined on it's own, but it always fits perfectly in a mix and always seems to be the loudest amp even though you volume/gain match it with other amps.

Having owned and used the MT15 for multiple shows with my band, it works fantastic for aggressive guitar parts as well as crispy cleans. It's such a versatile amp that also lets you control your seperate EQ for gain channel and clean channels. If you're looking for a solid amp to gig with, the MT15 is your best bet. By far. I must say as an EVH owner I’m probably biased, but i think it stomps all over the PRS. One thing worth mentioning is that there are two versions of the EVH lunchbox head; the one here that has two dirty channels with no real clean setting, and the LBX II which has the clean channel and the lead channel with dual gain and volume pots. I couldn’t make the choice between them, so I bought the 50 watt version that has all three channels.

I had the 5150 iii 6l6 50w and the Prs mt-15 at different times. I miss the Prs more though. The EVH Blue and Red channels sound great( although can be harsh at times for higher notes due to brightness)Other then that, fantastic. Great metal amp. The green channel however was not great, left much to be desired. The Prs clean is much, much better. The hi gain on both are great, just different. Combined they would be perfect(for me). All depends on the person but for the money they are both awesome amps.

It really helps when you can cut through the mix indeed! I personally don't play in a band so I'm not trying to compete with a bassist or vocalist, so I typically lean toward the a little thicker tone in my little "jam" cave! I tried them both well in the shop ... they sound good, I'm EVH superfans but I think the MT15 is a bit more versatile because the clean channel receives the stompbox well, then it has two separate EQs, which you allow for perfect tone adjustment in every channel... however they are two amazing amps for their price and you should have both of them.

After having both of these amps for a while I think if I had to chose one over the other it would be the PRS, not because it sounds better as I think they both sound great, but because the clean channel has it’s own EQ. The only thing missing on the PRS is a master volume, which isn’t all important and can be easily fixed by buying a volume box from eBay and running it through the effects loop. To me, both of these amps are spectacular. You opinion may vary because your tone choices may be different from mine, which is great because it would suck if we all sounded the same.

Awesome review/comparison... thank you so much! That's a sub...:) I really like both amps and for different reasons. I would love to hear a stereo track with both amps on both sides so 4 tracks in total. I have a feeling they would create a huge wall of "sitting perfectly in the mix kick ass" sound. Also, keep in mind that the SM57 notoriously tends to smother the center to upper midrange of certain amp/cab/speaker combinations which can lead to a loss of "body" or "substance" on recordings and I got the impression that's what's happening with the EVH here. The EVH DOES sound brighter and bitier by design but not to this extent I should think. I believe if you actually hear those amps in a room you won't get results as drastic but for this video's purpose I think the exageration is somehow pretty useful because it clearly emphasizes the different characteristics. Another mic... say a Lewitt tom mic... would have reduced the effects. I think I need to buy both of them, an ABY box, another 2x12 and destroy all the drummers on earth... 🖤

I want to possibly add a tube screamer and noise gate I’m just getting Into all this so learning as I go. But I tried a few different amp heads and that one was my favorite

Thanks for the demo. Only owned one tube amp, monoprice 15w and this things a freaking beast...cant wait for their next version. I dont gig, or cant go any louder, so thats perfect for me...and way cheaper.

No doubts as far as iam concerned EVH is the one ...for me because of the clarity crystal sound he's got . But i like the smouth Hot dark sound of the prs too . Thats the way to make a good demo : no stupid BS comments : IYA ! Bawa ! wazza ! with stupid mic gain overdriven outputs . Very good Job thx a lot .

PRS wins for me has more growl and bark with 6l6's and 5 pre amp tubes - also has 2 eq sections 1 for each channel that's pretty big. EVH is a fine sounding amp no doubt it's all preference what your looking for - me prog metal love the 6l6's .

For me and my ear (as well as the environment I play in) I gotta go with the PRS MT15. Love the smooth, creamy Clean channel and the thickness of the Lead channel. I have the MT15 and the MT112 en route. Should be here early next week. I'm hoping I can find a good range of versatility in the Lead channel or thru effects and the Clean channel... Keeping my fingers crossed! Nice demo/video! Cheers!!

I pick the The EVH only because it has a much better master Volume taper. The MTS goes from a real quiet TV volume to being too loud but the EVH's master is very gradual and accurate . it is very easy to dial in a low volume for late night playing with the EVH. If the MTS had a better master control it would be my choice because of the clean tones it gets.
