Excellent demo. I decided to get the Boss Waza Metal Zones based on this demo. It is definitely a trip down nostalgia lane. I think I actually know how to use the Metal Zone now after many years of playing guitar.

That guitar sound so out of tune...
@Valto4life
@Valto4life 5 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure most of that is the light strings, high/low action and scale length. Those three in certain combinations can make it really hard to play stronger notes/styles without making the string(s) de-tune during play even through in a neutral position with neutral pick attack the string is in tune.

I think my pick would be the Abasi, but the metal zone kinda surprised me. That pedal show has a good episode "Metal Zone part 2" with Rabea Massad where they tested a bunch of pedals like the original metal zone and the original sounded the worst in my opinion. I know there are many more factors, most of which is probably Rob's style of playing vs Rabea's. In the hands of Rob however, with this specific setup, is the best I've heard a MT-2 sound. It also might help if you think of the Metal Zone as a fuzz distortion instead of just a distortion, in that aspect it sounds on point.
@captainwhizz

Didn't they use the original Metal Zone in TPS' video? I'm fairly sure that was before the Wazacraft version came out.

The Abasi sounds the best to me, you can dial out the annoying sizzle and there's good note definition in chords. Also, using massive amounts of gain isn't the way to get a good live or studio tone. Sorry kids! :-)
@LeviBulger
@LeviBulger 5 жыл бұрын
Agree, it sounds good. That's probably would I would go for out of these three, but it really is difficult to beat the Waza MT 2 if using as a Preamp. That thing sounds massive in a loop.

Pathos Overdrive Sounded considerably Better then the Revv ( too Ice-Picky ). Like Bee's in a Tuna Can. The Waza Metal Zone had alot of Tonal options & was better then I thought. The Pathos was by far The Best. I'd also look into: The Diezel VH4, The Amptweaker Pedals and the M-1 Crunch Box = 3 Pedals of Doom.

I think the problem is that Rob is a blues rock guy and these pedals are meant for extreme metal so their tone tweaking shows they don't really know to get a good sound with this much gain, Ola's demos for these pedals actually fit the style intended

Hey! When Ola tested these shits long ago, they sounded much better and everything seemed to be in tune! Maybe you shouldn't pick the soul out of 46s strings tuned to D or drop C right? And if you present high gain pedals, you probably should play some proper riffs.

The Boss sounded very Boss like ....uncommitted. The Abasi was designed to be a Metal Tube Screamer...in other words it needs the amp set to crunch ...not clean ...as it is it has no balz and sounds scooped. The Revv G4 had it nailed. They committed themselves to one sound and perfected it. The other 2 are trying to please everyone by giving you a lot of options non of which nails a single sound that really stands out.

Maybe it's part of the reason there's an ongoing dislike of high gain stuff, because you always crank the shit out of it and wonder why it sounds bad? xD Rob had the right idea of balancing everything.
