Not all macho, not following toxic masculinity, so why can't we have squid boy be the main character? By the way I don't mean positive or healthy masculinity means being insecure or sensitive per se, what I'm saying is that he's the total opposite of it all, and he's one example, and I'm picking out an already made character from the show, and then putting him in the place of the main protagonist. To me it really goes to show that the people who wrote this, had a sad life of only young boys and LGBT men, being at all decent to them, all the while regular straight men, were bad enough and mean to them enough on a consistent basis that they just can't make any main character potentially be a young man trying to find his purpose in life. This is why sjws need to stop complaining about anime, because on the larger scale, anime and manga have for the longest time been way more progressive than Western media by a long shot. Sensitive men? We got you. Men just with a wide range of emotions and just coming off as averagely human? Which of the 500 titles would you like? Sjws: Well, how about LGBT representation? Anime industry: Damn can you narrow it down a little bit more and make it more niche? Because like, those two requirements cover a broad variety of genres. The joke with isekai cities is actually that A) they all look the same B) they’re usually surrounded by tons of forested areas and C) have little to no distinguishing features or landmarks. I get it’s practical but it’s also boring. And circular cities don’t have to be that way! Look at Tangled’s Corona or even a real life city like Rome! They are interesting circular cities with recognizable landmarks and terrain that make them unique and recognizable. Hell even just parts of Japan that are shown in anime have more beauty and detail in them than a random, flat, barely detailed circle that bears a faint resemblance to a city.

The animation is also more of a western style type of animation similar to avatar. But but you see very few people criticizing it for not being an anime. Because: A, it was actually animated by Japanese studios. That means it technically IS an anime regardless of style, and it actually ended up supporting the anime industry. I'm writing a classic fantasy trio story that is all about the adventure and roaming the world(kind of like sonic games or something), and recently I was concerned that my judgement might've been clouded because I liked the characters too much. I thought the players will act different from me, because unlike me, they don't know anything about them, so I thought I didn't made them likable in the beginning. @@Elitze_playz Thanks for kind words, but I only told a theme of the story. It's a bit complicated, imagine a jrpg, but the turns are timed after rhythm of the song. If you missed the beat, you skip a turn. You're in a time loop and it will continue to loop until you kill a dude that rejected your adventurer job offer(the time loop was created by accident). The only people aware of time looping is your team and the job guy. He refuses to die, and thinks your team did it on purpose. From this point the story splits into several, since it changes based on how many times you fail. I mean, experiencing the same things over and over will eventually drive the job guy insane, it's just the matter of...time.

It seems to me like the writers of this show have no clue about “Show, don’t tell”. They had the character tell some cats that she’s practicing magic, in order to fill in the audience on the situation. Instead they could have had her skulking around town at the twilight just before dawn, carrying herself in an overly vigilant sort of way. You know, to get the audience to wonder why she’s acting so sus. This would quickly lead up to her finding some privacy and beginning her drills with some trepidation. That would tell the audience everything they need to know about the situation. “Oh, okay, she’s trying to keep this magic practice under wraps.” But that would take, like, actual effort. You’d need careful writing, a whole bunch of storyboarding, and real skill and effort in executing the animation itself. It’s much easier to pop a sketch of that character into Adobe Flash and add some stiff lip flaps between a few sparse key frames.

It bothers me so much that they seem to only blink when moving their heads, or after a long enough pause where an animator probably realized they forgot to animate it for a while. Their eyes also seem to have a default, 100% open position, which they use except for short moments where they look concerned or smug or something. This isn't the 90s anymore, you don't have to have everyone rocking a bewildered expression 24/7. I'm trying to figure out what exactly makes it look so wrong for an "anime", and I think it's mostly the eyes for me.
