The end result of this is a total flop. It's almost as if they hired a group of people completely without any qualifications whatsoever and only hired based on looks and personal beliefs entirely. The audio quality of each character is so terrible and lacks emotion, some bad voice actors and terrible equipment are likely the issue. The main characters are really copy and paste so no originality and I've heard some say they're mostly self insert characters but I personally don't care to find out, investigate at your own discretion. And they used png pictures for various content throughout the entirety of the show, poorly might I add as the pics were stretched and caused a severe blur and even have lines in them because they were sample pics. This speaks that they either had no time to animate it, the skill, or both. Also throughout various scenes the environment changes within seconds, improper sizing of objects and people and stuff disappearing in frame. It's almost as if the people who weren't supposed to get this job got excied at all of the money, blew it all on lavish lunches, dinners and etc and when they realized the deadline was coming up they ordered the cheapest equipment possible, cheapest voice actors and just used their Tumblr fanfiction for the storyline. Which would explain ALL of this and how this took so long when it's so improperly done. Waste of subscribers money.

Like if you get rid of the blood and the cursing nothing changes and that's not good at all. Crunchy roll just wanted something that would make a lot of money I think and it made any slim chance that they would take any cool risks down to almost zero. I never saw Madoka but I heard enough about it to know how cool it is. I also think Doki Doki Literature club also had some fun with the "cute then fucked up" idea. Doki wasn't perfect but i'd LOVE to see more stuff like that.

As someone who got the Ferngully reference, I can see why you would make the comparison, but... I mean, at least that movie had Tim Curry and Robin Williams, and it wasn't pretending to be a Japanese medium despite having zero Japanese people in its cast and zero Japanese people in its staff. I kind of hate to admit it but the worst part about this show is that it actually had some potential. A decent amount of the character designs are kind of good, visually they're unique and stand out without being too over the top. Not to mention the occasional sprinkles of actually good and fluid animation, I was a little taken aback during the staff spinning scene with the cat girl, it was just so randomly fluid and actually looked pretty good. There's some small level of potential but the dialouge and writing is really just not good, atleast from what I've seen.

she's listed as story editor for 11 of the episodes, but seems to have only been the main writer for one episode, and given that the consensus seems to be that that was one of the better episodes I'd bet she didn't have all that much involvement. frankly, from what little I've bothered to see it looks like this shows problem is to many cooks in the kitchen, let alone the poor quality of said cooks.

I know magic schools are pretty cliche at this point, but I love them, it actually drives me mad how bad this show is, especially because there’s some actual characters and ideas that are interesting, it’s just so written so badly, and the main characters are poorly done, Like maybe dig in into that Rosemary is actually a bad friend to Sage, because even adults can find themselves with bad friends, give Thyme more emotion and establish her motive better, like she can be monotone characters but that actually sounds emotional in some moments, make her monotone a unhealthy coping mechanism, that she needs to work on, give Parsley more screen time. The Reason Amaryllis, Snap Dragon and Slime are the best characters is becase they actually feel more like real people. I know Magic School is Generic Setting, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be bad.
