This is the video I needed to confirm what I already knew but was unable to find online. Ever since I was a baby I had a "receding hairline". Not a widows peak, a legit receding look that never changed or receded further back. I am now 30 and literally all of my friends who teased me that Im going bald trough high school and college are now bald and I have all of my hair. And the fact that I choose to buzz it short makes the irony even better.

I would like to add some helpful info and clarify some details since in reality over 40-50% (sad but true) of ALL men will experience some form of androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness) by the age of 40-49. For clarity sake, we will say that balding means androgenetic alopecia, aka male pattern baldness. The fast version is that men who have this, their hair follicles on top of the scalp are more sensitive to the androgen DHT ( a bi-product of Testosterone) DHT binds to the androgen receptors in the hair follicles essentially killing the hair follicle. It slowly or rapidly (can go either way) miniaturizes the hair until it completely dies off. Men who are at a Norwood 4 or greater by their mid 20s have hair follicles that are VERY sensitive to this androgen/other androgens. And yes There is actually a scale for hairloss, google the Norwood scale, it indicates the progression of hair loss. For context, I would argue you're a NW 1 or NW 0 (juvenile hairline ie Ronald Reagan). Basically meaning you've have not experienced any hair loss, a very small minority of men are like yourself ! lucky !! In general there are many types of hair loss, but by far men who are losing their hair are almost always experiencing androgenetic alopecia. About 80% of men will experience this by the age of 80. Approximately 16-25% those men will begin to lose their hair at the age of 18-29 years old. The rule of thumb is if you sit anywhere above a Norwood 2, (hair think in the temple region OR the crown) you have MPB. However, NW 2 are tricky because this can be perfectly normal hairline recession, but doesn't mean you're balding. Perfect examples of this are Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Reynolds, Bradley Cooper etc. A big indicator is density, if your hairline moved back but you have not lost a lot of density, odds are its a maturing hairline and not MPB. In general, if your dad or any of your grandfathers have any hair loss, you should be aware its a dice roll. And not in denial (like me) that it might happen to you lol I would recommend watching More Plates More dates Hairliciously, The Hairloss Show and Kevin Mann. they provide a wealth of information on this very topic and since most of not all men watching your vids probably have this condition it would be great education for them. last thing I'll say is that is that prevention is key , there are no cures for MPB BUT there are FDA approved meds, Finasteride and Minoxidil. They are the golden standard for preventing hairloss and even regaining lost ground.. Once you realize you're thinning or losing hair, you've already lost a minimum of 30-40% of your hair follicles. YES thats a lot. And even if you get on medication, there is no telling how much of that you can revive (maybe 15-20% for good responders? If your hairline is receding it’s usually due to your hair follicles being sensitive to DHT which is just balding, it may be the early steps of it, it may not progress more than that but it is still miniaturization of the hair follicles to to DHT.

Interesting theory, but this isnt the case. When you look at guys who are genetically immune to hair loss, im talking no thinning whatsoever, like ronald reagan, you can see their hairlines are consistent. This is very rare. These older men you are talking about with the pushed back hairlines just have a much more mild, gradual form of androgenic alopecia. In reality 99% of men have some degree of it at some point. Think about it, do you see womens foreheads growing the same way as they hit their teens and 20s? I don't.
@reecetaylor26262 жыл бұрын
both you and him are right to some extent I believe. However, yeah, almost all men experience some form of androgenic alopecia as they age. Its just as natural as wrinkling.
@sapujapu632310 ай бұрын
This comment is pretty old now but the truth is that the process of developing a "mature hairline" is essentially the same of male pattern baldness: Hair follicles react sensitively to DHT in your scalp which causes them to scar and die. "Mature hairlines" don't really exist, it's a dynamic process and if you are a man who is receeding you are suffering from androgenic alopecia. Doesn't mean you'll go bald or receede further, but can potentially.

I'm 19, in 5 months 20, and I've started to notice my hairline moving up a little since the end of the summer of 2020, I got a little concerned cuz my relatives from my mother's side say that I look a lot like my grand grandfather and he was bald but my mother's father wasn't bald at all and my father's side doesn't know what balding is. I gonna take your advice and wait some time but I've started in the past week to see a shape forming behind the thiner hair there's a little at the temples. I am really scared about this because I have long hair and also I started treating my hair with conditioner and not being to harsh with it when i brush it. I hope you'll respond, if you'll find the time, your opinion si very important and I'll also gonna ask one of the guys that cut my hair. Thanks I kept serching for someone who knows what are they talking about.

sounds like alopecia areata. A disorder that causes the immune system to attack the hair follicles. The good news is, it isnt generally chronic like male pattern baldness, especially if it is mild (just a few small patches.) Bad news is, there really isnt a permenant solution for it. I have a buddy at my work who has it. he keeps his hair long, and waits it out when he loses a patch. Again in most cases these patches grow back eventually. A growth stimulant like minoxidil could help to push the hair into the anagen phase (growth phase) and speed things up. Obviously get a professional diagnosis.

So I'm 32 and I don't have what I would call a receding hair line, I have the part staying in the middle of the head and two spots going backwards on the other side. Does it normally stay in this phase for a while, or does this indicate it's going to start going fastish? Also as someone who studies physical therapy props on the bones of the skull. From what I have learned in Biology classes it's a certain protein that starts to form around the top of the skull just under the skin that releases and causes hair to die out. Any thoughts on this? Awesome channel man, you're channel is going to grow fast!

You can tell the difference between what your theory would be, and the obviousness of androgenic alopecia. With AA, you see the breaking down of the hairline vs. what you seem to be talking about would or should preserve the transition zone. I think you shouldn't "wait" because the longer one goes without seeking treatment for androgenic alopecia the harder it becomes to stop/reverse, as it is a progressive disease.
