Rally Finland, one of the craziest rally of the season with high-speed turns, high jumps and a lot of trees. Here rolling or crashing is quite common, Colin McRae even managed to roll 7 times here in 1993 with the Legacy and still managed to restart the car and go on. The Ford you mention is the new Ford Puma Rally 1 with a brand new 1600cc 4 cylinders engine combined with an electric engine so yes, now even rallies have hybrid cars. Actually I prefer the dear old 2000's Racing Puma that competed in the S1600, a class that now doesn't exist anymore, but still the livery is a really good one, I love it, and the car shape looks good for me but hey, anyone has his/her own tastes right? The one you didn't recognized it's "simply" a Peugeot 208 R2, the previous junior category for rally. That car should have a 1600 or 1800cc, now I don't actually remember, and like 175-180bhp of power and is FWD so ye, perfect to learn how to be competitive on rallies. Anyway, there are a lot of 1990's-1980's footages from a channel called "Passats de Canto" and from another one called "VHS Rally". I suggest you to also check out some season review from the official WRC channel where you can see the highlights from the entire season 2000 or 2003 and more :)

Rally Finland was in the beginning of August. And yeah, it's famous for the jumps. I think the British RAC Rally, in late fall, is also famous for the jumps. But each of the rallies are famous for something. Safari Rally - Desert, Sweden - Snow, Corsica and possibly other south European rallies - Narrow tarmac roads with a HUGE drop on one side. Also, There have been a few occasions where a top rally driver and a top F1 driver have swapped cars and surfaces to settle the debate on which kind of driver is the fastest. It's usually a tie and the conclusion is that they are equally fast.
@scorpionc7732 жыл бұрын
RAC is in my Brain tied to narrow Bridges and Streets and a lot of Mud. Portugal - Dust, a lot of it. Greece - lots of hidden, sharp Rocks Germany - Panzerplatte und tight turns in the Hills Monte Carlo - The Weather Changes Australia - lots of dust, very fast New Zealand - Very Fast, Jumpy and a lot of fences Argentina - Water crossings and crazy fans Japan - Very tight Streets and a lot of Uphill racing. Indonesia - even so it was just 2 Times in the Calendar it was, at least in my mind, the one with the most beautiful scenery and a lot of mud.

If you got time, check out Rally Talsi from my homeland - Latvia. Talsi is a small rural town, known for its interesting winding and jumpy gravel roads. There's a good compilation on youtube. Rally Talsi 2005-2014. Small country. Not that rich. But we rally too with whatever we got the funds or sponsors for. Even old Ladas. There's just something... primal roaring past scenery balls to the walls. Just you and your machine. Not a racer, but a couple years ago when I was in Talsi, I even unexpectedly caught some air on a weird road in my old Volvo station wagon. Was only going like 90km/h. Broke a rear spring. Worth it.

Also, Rocker, thanks again for diving into WRC. ❤️There are a bunch of us fans even here in the states. That Ford you speak of is actually a take on the Ford Fiesta built by MSport Ford-a UK-based builder of Ford & Bentley race cars. The WRC1 Ford after MSport gets their hands on them are called a Ford Puma. At the start of this season, Hyundai seems LOST. Ford & Yota we’re leagues ahead. Fast forward to now tho, MSport Ford is a distant third compared to Toyota GR, & Hyundai Motorsport. Key names to know currently in WRC1: Ott Tanak, Thierry Neuville (“tee-airy”), Kalle Rovenparra, Essapekka Lappi, Sebastien Loeb & Sebastian Ogier (“oh-G-Ay”). The cars in WRC1 are all new this year-in fact, by design they’re slower than previous years. Subtle but key design differences. Rally Finland is arguably the biggest race on calendar.

Finland is notorious for it's jumps. Walther Rörhl once refused to drive Finland, Saying that if he would want to fly, he would have become a pilot. And at that time Rally cars were slower than what they are now. (though reached similar speeds on straights.) Also what Finland is notorious about is those jump sideways, and land in to a slide to take the turn. Those even inspired Ken Blocks Gymkhana 5 (5:30 - 6:00) (though Gymkhana and Rally are totally different things,)

Rally de Portugal is also good. I recommend you watch if you want including the Group B ones. It was in Portugal by the way that the beginning of the end of the competition was dictated with the tragedy of the blue lagoon. in Sintra. March 5, 1986. The driver Joaquim Santos, in the first qualifying stage, when trying to avoid some spectators, lost control of his car and rammed the crowd that was in that area. People died and many were injured. A month later the pilot Henri Toivonen died in a fatal accident and would be the end of the group. Rally is a beautiful sport. There are bad and good moments.

Cars with numbers above 200 are so called Vetomies class. Or Class F. Those are 2W-drive cars without turbo, much less power than the WRC. Vetomies-rally is quite popular part of Rally Finland and drivers are amateurs.

Wasn't seen on this clip but Finnish self made class F BMW's have something like 340-380hp.

4:00 you're almost certainly gonna break a driveshaft too, unless you get the wheels spinning at the exact right speed on landing. A road car drivetrain just can't handle that sudden torque change.

Best rally in the world. Jumps and speed are amazing. I have been there since 1986

This is what it looks like when I go to the summer cabin. At least this is what I think it looks like 😅 The roads are the same, anyway.

That weird little Ford I think is a puma. Sold in Europe. There's a couple of videos about it

I vagile remember a video of a car having an ugly landing, but looked fine (all wheels facing correctly), until the next turn where it lost its right rear suspension and tire.

The driver and co-driver do a slow, normal speed lap of the stage, or a practice run, during which the co-driver takes loads and loads of notes (or co-drivers can be issued a book of pacenotes for a stage--and then on the day... they go FLAT OUT FAST!
