I was just thinking the same thing. Most tournaments now are broadcast around the world and have a ton of standards and they try to be sterile. I miss seeing a bunch of people get together for some good ole speedrunning races, but now they're all sponsored and they all have a big in-person crowd that has to be entertained. That interlude about saya no uta let me down a very deep rabbit hole... but at least I finally found something that like...terrified me for once in my life. Like... I was one of those weird kids that watched cartel executions because I liked talking about it with people (I think im making this sound way more common then it actually is) so like...gore horror is just something that I find interesting and not really scary. But for some reason, saya no uta did it. For some reason when I just saw some of the stuff in saya no uta it actually terrified me. Extremly weird feeling, imagine being a young adult that never really had that feeling before and for some reason this random ass game gave me that feeling even if it was just for like 10-15 minutes while doing some research on it.

there's this one masterfully-executed bit where, like the MC goes and checks on Saya, and the progress on their attempt to paint the house in colors that don't look like meat to him, and he goes out for an errand and then his best friend comes to check on him, and finds the door unlocked and she sees that the entire house is covered in rotting meat and then she looks _up,_ and she starts _screaming_ as some *_THING_* descends upon her and then when the MC gets back he finds Saya sitting in the hallway munching on something, and he's like "oh, that looks delicious, can I try some?"
