I always thought it was a PFM with 4x missiles, I didn’t realize it had the MF engine along with 4x R3R/R3S, this is a lot more interesting as this airframe is basically a 10.3, with 9.0 missiles at 9.7 lol

It basically has the airframe of a PFM, but the engine of the MF. Which is why it has better acceleration than the PFM, but worse than the MF.

The gun is a god at deflection shooting. You have no idea how many kills I got using the 23mms in a rolling scissors fight. the high RPM and the OHK potential is so giddy

I have made this plane my primary grinder for USSR air and have used the Mig-21S across 444 matches so far. With that in mind I can safely tell you to not even bother using the R3S because it is a complete waste of time. Always run a full R3R loadout and try to play at altitude whenever possible. At altitude you'll catch a lot of people just climbing or heading in a straight line and they're easy food for R3Rs. You can get easy reliable headon kills by launching missiles at 2.5km and flying slightly offset to avoid their return gunfire. You can kill enemies flying perpendicular to you by launching at 3.5km with about as much lead as the missile will allow and it will reliably hit your target. The same applies for targets flying above you and below you; apply full lead and fire at 3.5 or 3 km. The distance you can fire at depends on altitude and I've gotten the missile to hit targets as far out as 7km when firing at enemies below me or firing at enemies at altitude. If you are worried about the radar then its not really an issue as you will still be able to get a lock on an enemy as long as you are positioned to see them contrasted with the sky. If they're higher than about 500m or 1km then they are fair game for your missiles. For all intensive purposes the R3R is essentially the R3S but all-aspect due to the radar and with the ability to lead far beyond your target to make the most out of the 10G maneuvering limit and low top speed. If used properly you can get a kill with every single missile you fire.

@@Sagaleon14 It's absolutely hilarious seeing an A-10A or AV-8 going in a straight line thinking they're going to flare a radar missile. Since they added custom loadouts for the Mig-21S I've actually been running 3x R3R and 1x R3S. The R3S is still terrible but there are occasions where even a shitty IR missile can be useful.

@@moldypotato4656 i've become accustomed to bringing 2x R3R and 2xR3S, the only reason I bring the R3S is to shit on the 2 or 3 a-10s jetting to the battlefield, usually they have zero self-awareness as it takes a fat minute for them to get any action and when you dive in from 6000m behind them and launch your IRs its basically 2 free kills and 4 AIM-Ls out of the game

In Vietnam maps u take 3 or 4 of f105 with the r3r in frontals they try abuse of his vulcan and did not wait for a radar missile from a mig 21

I saw one of these get 4 kills using the missiles last night (I’d gotten uptiered in my MiG15bis) but he was using the SARH missiles, not the IR. Seemed like he got a few headons and relied on picking off people that got into dogfights with me.

Honestly I used to be a little afraid of flying this thing since I normally don't go near top tier. I died alot when learning admittedly, but then it just sorta clicked with the gun, and missles, then got 3 kills. Still died only because I took I head on and we traded. The engine on this thing is insane I outrun pretty much everything and just energy fight.

This thing is a menace, yeah R-3Ss are bad at pretty much everything but the R-3Rs are quite dangerous in headons, especially when people dont expect you to use those missiles (top tiers dont use them, downtiers mostly have no idea what they are). Combine this with its 10.3 airframe and you have a fearsome fishbed.

Ive never played a mig21 before this plane, I was told by a friend who played Russia that mig21's aren't fun due to the energy retention. After sinking hundreds of games into the 21s and a few games into the SMT, I can say they are In my top ten jets. I cant get enough of them.

I would be incredibly surprised if we didn't get a premium Phantom at some point. My guess is that they'll make the F-4B a premium vehicle, because as it stands, there's no good reason for it to be in the tech tree as it doesn't offer anything unique over the F-4C besides the Colt 20mm instead of the Vulcan.

I just watched your Harrier GR1 video and was wondering why you never use the thrust vector. It slows the plane down significantly and gives you the option of fighting all kinds of planes. I've used it on AV8C and it works just fine.

It's not; You can't notch a radar that doesn't filter anything out. Defyn is just too used to playing against clowns that never turn off pulse doppler in 11.3's. The 21S has the Saphire-21 radar.

@@duncanharding8836 Yeah I'm well aware, I had pretty good performance on the SMT since I unlocked the R-60's (and it should be 10.7 IMO). I struggled greatly with 17AS at first since it had been a LOOOOONG while since I flew rank V MiG's and my stats are pretty good on it. Ultimately while the Talisman and SL rewards were of great help to get the MiG-23M which was my short term goal, I ended out ditching them over the 23M since I really REALLY love to fly it. Still I think just getting a Tier VI premium would had been more efficient, I just wasn't interested on the Su-7BMK or the Yak-38.

mig 17 is solid it’s pretty much just a mig 17 with r3s so it’s not that big of an upgrade but i used it to grind to tier 7 in around 4 or 5 months. yak 38 performs terribly but has r60s at 9.7 so if you don’t mind dying a ton and maybe getting a kill or 2 it’s good. this new mig 22 looks decent for 9.7 and it’s tier 6 so it’ll let you grind further into the tree

If you have experience flying MiG-21s and aiming the GSh, go for it. MiG-21s aren't noob friendly, and requires lots of playing to understand how to properly use one if you're a new player.

@@unoriginalplays120 I would personally get the Mig 21 as its rank 6 so it can grind the rank 7. I also find the Mig 21 very enjoyable and fun to play. Reading on forums people say the the yak 38 a pain to play. But I have never personally played it.

If you're high enough in the tree, talisman a MiG-19 when it's discounted for ~1400GE. If you're okay tripling the price for a true premium, get the 21S; the Yak-38 is basically a weaker Harrier with a near identical tech tree variant (I like expensive premiums to be at least somewhat unique), and the Su-7s are braindead repetition once again with tech tree variants. MiG-17AS is great but sadly only rank 5.

The reason you do so poorly with the 21S missiles is because you don't even understand how the radar works. You can't notch the Saphire-21 because it doesn't have ground return or 0-gate filters. You're too used to players that leave PD mode on all day.
