These lectures are a dream come true. My biochem professors in college were terrible. They were only there for research and didn't care about teaching. I'm glad now I get to learn this stuff.

if i understand correclty, if it were not for this repulsion then the ion bound to the selectivity filter would be isolated from the concentration gradient part of the electrochemical gradient which would significantly reduce the driving force for diffusion accross the membrane, but since the channel is able to cram multiple ions in the multiple binding sites the concentration gradient force is able to be transfered the whole way through the passage? otherwise why would the repulsion not stop a second ion from entering the channel in the first place, if not for an extra force on the entrance side of the membrane? thank you
