Sometimes PCs adopt an NPC that way. One of my groups did character gen by telling stories at the campfire. The orc veteran I put in to bounce their stories off tried to leave five or six times before I accepted he was the fourth Beatle. The other group adopted a psychic construct. Again, they are loath to let her leave.

That actually raises a question with me. Mark's given reason for only one revive is that the soul cannot handle passing through the cradle again and again. Sentry's soul didn't pass through it though. Would that still affect her? Also, what about when the cradle comes down? I imagine he will keep the rule as it serves a purpose but I wonder how he will explain the mechanic narratively.

@@blackh9604 I have also stated as much at other times in Aerois content, we all take inspiration from the things we love, and FFXIV mechanics are a good source of inspiration for spicing up combat and other things in D&D, one I certainly look forward to doing once I run a campaign for my group.

I know this campaign is inspired by many different games and movies so it's probably just a coincidence but I keep wondering if Mark has played Guild Wars 2 or the mechanics are just so generic, because literally every single one of these bosses lately has some mechanic that reminds me a lot of a raid boss from GW2, which makes it even more awesome for me because I can visualize it better! And not just the fights, there's also a playable race of plant people as well as a corrupted variant, a lot of similarities to these plantlike minions they fought in the jungle. Now the soul sucking mechanic in Godrick's fight instantly reminded me of the Dhuum raid boss. If Mark hasn't played GW2, he really should try it!
