Wow, what a battle! That was such a well handled villain fight, and so many clutch moments, the counterspell, Quill... I admit I got leaky eyes for a moment there, can't even imagine how hard it must be to DM such moments. Big props to Mark for keeping it interesting and fair for everybody. @@totallycarbon2106 I agree. Even if all three of those characters rolled a 1, this game doesnt have auto succeed or failure rules for ability checks. Just adding their modifiers was more than the required amount to break through that barrier. Mark literally said this too, so idk why someone felt the need to condone it. I have to say Mark changing up counter spell mid combat during that mass heal was pretty shitty. Not that I disagree that the spell could use some revision but to change it up after it was used normally multiple times during the fight already is not great. I get his friends are chill with it but as people watch live play shows to learn the game it’s not a good habit to teach new DMs. Especially when the change he made will always heavily favour the DM since late game enemies will almost always have stats higher than what players can usually achieve.
@HelenaOfDetroit Жыл бұрын
The result from this was the same as it would've been otherwise. Favoring the bad guys with the decision stays true to the original concept of counterspell but at least gives a small chance for the heroes to be... well ... heroic.

Oh damn! Ya better buckle up and stick your head in the sand because if you ever look around you'll lose a LOT more faith in humanity. Well, there wouldn’t have been a problem if he didn’t implement the (unfair and homebrew) no saving npcs mechanism of resurrecting not working on entropis. He solved a problem that he himself made. High level dnd is filled with zero stakes or real danger.
@calconone7250 Жыл бұрын
@@MarkcrazeerThere is no point in implementing a rule if you're going to make an exception to it every time the rule comes into effect. He should have either never made the rule or stuck to it when the time came. High-level dnd can have risk of permanent character death, especially when the campaign is so close to over anyway, but it is indicative of a lack of imagination to not find a cool narrative angle in the next session following the character's death. There are ways Mark and Tom could have used this, but they went the lazy route instead.
@HelenaOfDetroit Жыл бұрын
@@calconone7250I thought the death ruling was for anyone killed in the Far Realm. They haven't gotten to that place yet. Besides, if your main heroes and player characters that have been the focus of the entire story die too early, then they don't get to die in the final battle. It's not a story about Aerois after all, it's a story about a group of adventures turned heroes. Like, if Luke Skywalker died to Darth Vader when they fought in Cloud City then the story couldn't continue. Yes, it's completely Deus Ex Machina (aka God Machine) but the shape of stories needs these to things to happen. Otherwise, it would be a boring documentary filled with hundreds of people that we, as the audience, don't get the time to connect with emotionally.
