High School Fire Inspection 2017

The main panel is a Siemens XLS addressable panel. There is a Silent Knight SK-5208 conventional for the gym and a couple of classrooms. There are also many Siemens PAD 3's that act as NAC power supplies and also power the door holders. The alarms are Siemens UMHU-MCS horn/ strobes. The old Simplex panel was a separate system for a small storage building and the Silent Knight SK-5808 Is the panel for the larger main tender building and standalone gym. A few more things... I only recorded maybe 15% of the entire inspection. 1) I didn't want this video to be an hour long and, 2) Some parts wouldn't of been interesting for most people. I did not get a lot of video from testing smokes/ heats in classrooms and I didn't record much of the power supply battery testing. Some things in this video may look missed or incorrect. So many different fire alarms. My high school has a lot of old simplex devices like Simplex 4050-80s with different simplex horns along with a couple of wheelock alarms and different Simplex 4903 horn strobes

Ah yes, Throughout my 7th and 8th grade years of middle school, They were testing the fire alarms a lot but told us not evacuate I didnt assume at the time they were replacing the simplex 4050’s, 2901 9838’s, and 4901 9219’s with the 4903 9236’s on the ceiling. Kinda sad my entire middle school went from having mechanical horn strobes to just electronic horn strobes. I do miss those days. Rest in peace old Simplex system 1973 - January 2019

My school still has a lot of old mechanical horns like the 9838 and the 9806 along with 4903-9101 strobe plates and 2903-9101 light plates. However some of those alarms have been replaced with Gentex Commander 1s and even like 1 or 2 commander 3s.

Now this is cool, the school I attend used to have a mixed system that was full of Siemens UMMT-S17s, Wheelock 7002s, a Cerberous Pyrotronics that was a mix of a UMMT with a rectangular strobe, Siemens ZNS in Red and White and a Odd ball Siemens U-HMU-MCS that there was only 1 of in the school behind the stage. About over 2 years ago, the cerberous pyrotronic and ZNS's were replaced with Siemens speaker strobes, while the Siemens UMMTs and 7002s would stay for another year until they were replaced by more speaker strobes. The panel was and I presume to still be a Siemens XLS that is now programmed to have voice evac. FUN FACT: the U-MHU-MCS is still in the school, just deactivated.

6:40 the alarms in the gym or whatever area you were testing in didn't seem to sound the strobes activated but I could just hear the UMMT horn strobes outside the area. EPIC FAIL!

If you are referring to 10:25, you are correct. The Simplex pulls in the high school gym are connected to a Silent Knight conventional panel that is tied into the main Siemens panel. It sometimes takes a while to activate the horn strobes but in this clip, I don't know why they didn't activate or why I included the fail in the video. Thanks for watching!

Hunter Laska Hi! That's a waterflow Sensor. It detectors the flow of water in a sprinkler pipe. It uses a flap which moves when the flow of water changes causing a switch to activate. Thanks for watching!

Just a question: why did some of the horns not go off and only the strobes go off while other horns did go off with their strobes? Is that a malfunction in the alarms that threatens to have the whole school system replaced with BORING Advances?

Goldenrod636 It happens when you silence the panel really fast. Most of the strobes have audible silence and some take a little bit longer to work. It doesn't happen when the system is in normal alarm. Sorry for the confusing comment. Hope this helps!
