In this situation, I believe it is more of a show than standard thing. But I have seen plenty of cash games where they keep cash and chips mixed together. The chips has a real dollar value so it doesn't really matter if you bet with chips or cash.

Back when this was originally filmed/aired you could play in most Las Vegas casino poker rooms with cash - but not anymore. For the high stakes players they liked playing with cash for the main reason that it allowed them to circumvent US tax laws, but it also made it easier to lend/pay money to other players. In regards to this show: it was all done to just make everything look more impressive - stacks of hundies all bundled together and tossed in the middle looked better to the viewer at home than if they just scooted out 3-4 chips... its the same reason why at the WSOP Main Event final tables that they don't color up the chips: it looks more impressive to have the final two facing off against each other with thousands of chips in front of them even though it slow and impractical to have them actually play that way. As said, they can't play with cash in the casino any more - the biggest reasons are to prevent money laundering and tax evasion, but the other main reason is about trust: if somebody sits down at your table and plops down a bundle of 100 $100 bills and says its $10,000 how would you know its all there or that some/all of it isn't fake unless you stop the game and have it counted and tested?

One of the few advantages of playing so tight is being able to occasionally make these plays. The problem is when you have a monster you don’t get paid unless they also have one. Some people will even lay down fairly strong hands to a super tight player just because they don’t want to reward them for sitting around waiting for the nuts for 6 hours ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Why is so phil sm worse at cash games than tournaments. Im new to poker so Im just trynna understand
@lbdjthethird1240 Жыл бұрын
@@Nooop655 I do not know enough to say for sure but there are different strategies when playing tournament rather than cash. Tournament you are sort of one-and-done if you lose all your chips (sans rebuys) whereas cash games you can just keep buying in until you no longer want to. This results in (I think) tighter play in tournaments, looser play in cash games. Because there is loser play in cash games, you end up facing hands you may not see in tournaments as often. AK is a tournament is stronger than AK in cash because your opponent may decide to splash around with a suited 7/8 or offsuit J/10, etc. in a cash game. Plus Phil steams easy so he is easy to take advantage of in that regard. Again, I ain't no expert but this is sort of what I have picked up watching and talking to others over the last couple of years.
@salvosalva Жыл бұрын
Also, in tournaments blinds keep going up.. your stack is going to be eaten away just by the blinds if you don't play. And when you have a small stack, sometimes you just have to go all in and corss your ffngers. In cash games, if you play within your bankroll, you should always play full stack and wait for the right opportunities.
