The septic tank and leach field mound design is common practice here in New Hampshire. You have peat but we have granite rocks everywhere. The septic mound is a telltale that someone has replaced their old failed septic tank in the last 15 odd years. The white candy cane stink 😷 pipe sticking out of the end of the leach field is very fashionable🤣. I painted mine in camp colors, old fence posts and a bird house disguises it nicely.

Nice work, if you could have installed a bituminous seal on the lower concrete riser, you could have kept ground water out of the pit. Also always backfill with sand with no stones in it. Pressure from rocks or stones will eventually cause pressure failures in the pipes., Covering the pipes with two-inch wood planks on top of the sand gives you about 6 inches of insulation value to keep the pipes from freezing. Coming along great, thanks for the video.

Most of the women around me can't handle the tools or workload that we see Meg tackling and as a guy, I acknowledge, she is way more competent than me, with the tools and projects that she tackles. Mahalo and good luck continuing the property. I'm sure it will be envied by the viewers, on how much a couple can do on their own.

Hey guys, just make sure to fill your septic tank completely with water. Otherwise, If the water table raises, the empty tank might be pushed up, pipes may be bent and eventually break. This can easily be avoided by flooding the tank... and insulate the tank with a sufficient layer of soil.

Nice work guys, but I think that for the future you should consider getting/building a cage type thing for use in your trenches, people get buried in trench collapses all the time, and given how viscous your ground is, could easily end badly. Something to think about to keep safe.

I do sewer and septic for a living. Perhaps I’m missing something, but I’d probably do gravity sewer that doesn’t need to be buried below frost line from the home to the septic mound. Then the pump and basin would be below frost line by the mound. Less pressure pipe. Less work for the pump. But it will work either way. Could even have the gravity go into the tank and have a super deep tank then pump up to the mound drainfield.

Just for soil stability, I would dig a hole bellow water level, put culvert pipe vertically and burry around it. then out a sump pump in the pipe to lower water level around the house/area
@davidschnell259111 сағат бұрын
Always amazing to see your projects. I assume the contractor set the tank so high because of buoyancy. Not knowing when you would have it operational, without a full load of septage, it would float on your high water. Once you have it in operation, it will be full of water (and solids) so it won’t be buoyant. But remember, when the time comes to pump it out for regular maintenance, do that in the summer when your water table is below the tank bottom. If your tank floats, it would be a major headache to fix! Keep up the good work.
@cobra0241111 сағат бұрын
There are companies who will pump the solids and scum and partially refill with effluent or water just for that reason. By keeping some effluent you keep the biological process going. I'd expect it to take a week or so to fill back up, so maybe they should just ask for the tank to be at least partially filled when pumped just in case the weather turns. The last thing you want to see is your tank bobbing up to the surface... With just the two of them and likely around a 1,000 gallon tank it'll be a few years before they need to pump it. Hopefully they remember or the pumping company is knowledgeable.

Sorta confused. If you are required to use a certified contractor to install an engineered septic system, why would you be allowed to modify it?
@RCTVAccount12 сағат бұрын
Especially since they are making a video about it. Good luck if they ever need an inspector to come out to the property again and see the changes.
@Swampkrew11 сағат бұрын
Literally the first line of the episode says the found a contractor who would work with them allowing them to do most of the work.
@cobra0241111 сағат бұрын
Clearly some work they're able to do and I suspect they consulted the contractor about the changes. The septic blueprints have all the measurements, some will have minimums, some will have a range and some will be exact. The distribution box and leach lines are exact, but the inlet from the tank to the distribution box would have a minimum drop, probably 1/4" per foot. As long as they have at least 1/4" per foot they're good. I know in New Jersey USA you only need the design from a certified company. Everything else you can do, but you need to follow the design and have it inspected. I could have someone install the tank then later decide to lower it and be good as long as it was still within the design limits.
@DRSpalding10 сағат бұрын
Probably because it's the drainfield that is the engineered and code-sensitive part of the system. Anything upstream of the drainfield, as long as it's not a pump-n-surge like we have to have here in King County, WA, USA, is basically just plumbing and as long as you don't let the liquids outrun the solids and have even slopes w/o any humps or valleys, you're probably just fine.
