Highend Makeup | Best & Worst Setting Powders

I’m testing out a new round of highend makeup and finding out what the best and worst setting powders are! I’ve conducted 9 powder wear tests in this video to see how these highend setting powders will last and perform against my oily complexion for 10 hours. I did use the same foundation under every single one of these powders (Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Fluid Foundation) to keep the wear tests even and fair. Price tags can be misleading and this video proves that sometimes you don’t always get what you pay for! If you have been looking for a new highend powder to try that is long lasting, I have found quite a few for you to try as part of this video. :)

On Camera, Tom Ford looked cakey to be honest! Givenchy looked the best by far! It looks very fresh and blurred out.. Second place was YSL & Soap and glory :)

The RCMA powder is actually great for more combo-dry to dry skin types. Love these videos! My favorites for all-over application are Your Minerals' Transparent Veil Setting Powder & Too Faced's Primed & Poreless (loose, though I've heard the pressed is also good). IT's Bye Bye Pores is similar to the Too Faced & also good (though I won't repurchase now that their parent company is not cruelty-free☹️). On my fair skin I also really like Hourglass' Ambient Powder in Diffused Light & for undereye &/ or a bit of subtle brightening I absolutely LOVE Ben Nye's Luxury Powder in Rose Petal. Top on my list to try is CoverFX's illuminating Setting Powder but the small size of the Light shade, which is only $10, seems to always be sold out on sephora's site (& it's not available in-store, not even in the larger size). Others w/ slight tints that are on my radar to potentially try @ some point are the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powers in Mood &/ or Ethereal as well as Besémé's Rose &/ or Lilac powders (though I'm very leery that they are fragranced).

Z. I love your review videos and appreciate when you share makeup websites with us. Have you ever considered giving your review items a letter or number rating? When you recommend multiple items, we could then further evaluate which to purchase based on that rating. For ex. Application, price per gram, longevity, etc. Congratulations on your baby!

Great video! Multiple products in a video less than 10 minutes long, and you did not go on and on about packaging or anything else not related to the performance of the product. In my opinion you tested them well...wearing them for long hours, providing us with the video proof afterwards and using them over the same foundation. There are tons of videos out there going on about certian powders in depth, but this was an excellent broad review/comparison of some of the pricier powders. Thank you so much!

soap and glory one heck of a blot compact is another good one. it has been my holy grail for years, not cakey at all, no colour (I'm super pale) and great for touch ups throughout the day

I think the Givenchy looked the best on you. And you're the first person on YT I've seen not love the RCMA Powder but the people I've seen love it have dry skin so maybe it's better for that. Btw you're glowing (in a great way)!

Love this video Zabrena, only recently realised just how amazing setting powders actually are. Have you ever tried any of the Bare Minerals (sometimes called Bare Essentials) line? I have their Mineral Veil and use that as a setting powder and it gives a very light luminous glow to my skin on top of keeping my make up in place. Admittedly Galway isn't as hot and humid as Florida but it still helps me get a good day out of my make up. :D So happy I found your channel, have been watching each new video for the past few weeks now. Rouge Bunny Rouge Diaphanous powder is my holy grail; even in the summer when my combo skin leans oily, it is gorgeous; it doesn't look like anything is on your skin, but it blurs and sets everything down beautifully!

i tried them out the first time i saw zabrena mention them! they're great, they send little mini tools to help you use the samples. my second or third order with them took longer to get to me than they said and they gave me a full refund AND still let me keep the products when i finally got them. amazing company and great customer service

Linthy Tran if it's a liquid product, like foundation, they'll put it in a small pump bottle with enough for two to three uses. i got an eyebrow pomade and they had it in a little jar and sent an angled brush for it. primer was sent in a small plastic bottle. i think zabrena has done a video or two using her choix box :)

about 6-7 years ago, I was lucky enough to get bare minnerals face powder (the set of face, bronzer, and highlight) and at the time it was way too dark for me (I was 13-14), but recently I took the face powder and turned it into pressed powder as an expirement with rubbing alcohol, and it's my absolute favorite!! i used very hydrating products since I have dry skin, and it just sets it beautifully. I didn't really use the powder before hand, but I can't speak highly enough of it.

Hi Zabrena! I really wish you would have shown how these powders looked immediately after application! Many high end powders have ingredients that are more finally milled and/or have a radiant finish, both can seen best immediate after it is applied. It's harder to discern after one's face oil has been absorbed. It would have been interesting and useful to see how the Soap & Glory powder stacked up to the other powders too.

Laura Mercier translucent setting powder. Available at any Sephora, and seems to be everyone's holy grail. Other than that I love Rimmel Stay Matte. Another great one is an online brand called Meow Cosmetics, LOVE, LOVE, there mineral powder foundations. Come in every shade imaginable from super fair to super dark. 😉 can't wait to try the Tom Ford, and YSL!!! 😻

Like other commenters, I didn't think that the Tom Ford looked that great compared to some of the other powders, but maybe it looked different in person and/or felt better on the skin. I'm surprised that you didn't break these down as far as price per ounce like you do with other reviews.
