Engine replaced at 414,000 miles divided by 34 oil changes equals to intervals of 12,000 miles per engine oil and oil filter change. That’s why this awesome 5.7 started to make some noise. If the owner would of kept with 5,000 miles oil changes or 6 months ( whichever comes first ) the original engine would still be on that 200 series LC. Thanks for the video and for sharing!

@@VikingsGarage always! I enjoy your videos. Owners need to understand that synthetic motor oil, regardless of the cost and the quantity needed for a specific vehicle, it will always be affordable on the long run. Save your engine, keeps rubber seals lubricated, etc. I own a GX460 and every 5,000 miles or 6 months, 8.4Q full synthetic go in. I grease the driveshaft every 10,000 miles and at 40,000 miles I perform new fluids for power steering, the front differential, rear differentials and transfer case. Original antifreeze from Toyota drain and fill on radiator and original from Toyota “World Standard” ATF drain and fill only - no flush - on the transmission ( and yes, I own a scanner to measure the ATF temperature 105F - 115F ) for the overflow on the transmission pan. 61,000 miles and zero issue at all. And a 2010 Corolla with 180,000 miles. All done from the comfort of the garage and jack and coke.

The list of things that HAVE been replaced are much less than what has NOT been replaced. Alternator at 350,000 miles, radiator at 200K then another one at 400K, 1 door lock actuator , one blower motor, lower control arm bushings and inner tie rod ends at about 400K, 1 set of spark plugs at about 180K then again at 405,000 , 1 set of valve cover gaskets. Back brakes last about 150,000 miles, front last about 100K miles. Resealed the transfer case. That's it. Never even had a starter. Keep up the good work! See ya on the next one.

NONE of them ever had a brake job during my ownership. One had over 300,000 miles on the original brakes. They were so easy on brakes that GM changed that up for 2007 when they came out with the new style and THOSE were normal on brakes. Here is a high mileage story of Underdog 2003 Corolla that I bought used in 2004. It had 60, 000 plus change miles on it. I used that car for 14 years and it reached 340,000 miles. Yes, that's right. Engine compression was low at the end of the life but that car would start and run every morning without an issue. Odometer stopped at 299,999 but I kept track of mileage manually. All it needed was a relay in A/C system, fixing of an oil leak close to 300, 000 miles and usual maintenance like belts, catalytic converter, oil changes, brakes etc. I gave that car to my son above 300K miles who used it for his college. he totaled it in an accident and that's how this story ends. Till the end that car had no rattles , no noises. I have had a Camry after that but Camry is not that Corolla. I recently bought a 2011 LX570 with about 98K miles. Hearing all the good stuff about LX, I am hoping it will last me till my retirement. Best Regards.

As for the three I no longer own: Sold the 2002 because it was only a four-speed auto with no overdrive and mileage was never better than about 13.5 mpg. Gave the 2005 to my son (see above). The 2007 (my favorite, gun metal gray) was totaled when I was re-ended by an 88 year-old man driving a “farm use only” dually pickup with a massive ranchero bar upfront and 300 gallon diesel tank in its bed. Knocked my 2007 down the road 95 feet. It looked like an accordion. I had to climb out the window. Luckily I only had a concussion. I also owned a 2015 LX570. Beautiful car (champaign with ivory interior) but too nice to take off road or on the beach. Also, dash was too techie for my taste. I came across a 2008 V8 Toyota Sequoia with 315,000 miles at a local used dealership. The engine has a small hesitation/jerking at low revs with the check engine light flickering. We ran the OBD on it and it was returning a bunch of misfires codes. The owner doesn't really seem interested in fixing it (bought it at an auction but guy prefers to sell German cars) and was ready to let it go for 5,000 bucks as is. The vehicle is otherwise in mint condition inside and out. I'm wondering if it might just be the ignition coils/spark plugs and whether it's worth the risk. For that price I'd be happy if the vehicle could last another 100,000 miles, even if I'd have to put in 4-5K in repairs. Thoughts?
@VikingsGarage2 жыл бұрын
Try to get it for 4k, as long as it’s somewhat sharp looking. as far as the misfire, odds are it’s a coil pack or a few and also check those spark plugs. Plugs are not expensive coils can be, specially if it needs all 8 (which I doubt).Good luck!

Hi, great video! Did you replace the starter, secondary air injection pumps, front and rear main seals, and catalytic converters? I am surprised there is not more rust underneath this Cruiser! Land Cruisers are easily the best built car ever made, but the maintenance and be VERY expensive if you plan on keeping it for this many miles!
@VikingsGarage Жыл бұрын
It’s very expensive to drive and maintain indeed. Driving a Landcruiser is a statement. All the service records I had access to,were discussed at the end of the video. Original Cats I’m pretty sure. That same truck is now at 600k by the way.

Check engine light coolant getting pass the head gasket. Ran it too hot which warped the heads. Plus he also had a pretty nasty valve train noise . If you ask me I think if he was a little more religious with the oil changes that wouldn’t have happen. 🤷🏼♂️

So engine air filters every 62,000 miles and oil changes every 15,000 miles. Bet he would've gotten more miles out of that first engine. 15,000 miles is too long , in my opinion. I do mine every 7,500 miles on my 2UZ and she doesn't leak, make any strange noises or smoke. Then again the 2UZ is bulletproof , but that 5.7 is mighty fine too.

You will get this same experience with the Lexus LX570. They have the same motor and transmission. There are only 2 main differences. The overall quality is better with the Lexus. The ride and drivabilty is MUCH better on the Lexus do to the "AHC" Suspension System. It's a hydraulic system and not an air system. Therfore, It is not unreliable like the Air Suspension Systems in Range Rovers. The globes have to be replaced every 120kish miles ballpark. The Lexus LX570 comes with higher Maintence costs as well unless you have a vehicle lift in your garage. That's because Lexus has a higher Maintence Cost then Toyota however no where near as bad as Land Rover, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche etc. I'm about to buy a 2014 LX570 because I test drove a 2016 Land Cruiser recently and the transmission was shifting like shit and overall the quality didn't match the price. The used LX570's are cheaper than the LC so other than slightly higher Maintence costs the LX570 is better in every single way.

Thanks for the video, and sharing this 3UR's service record Viking . Obviously you have a good report with this 3UR and that is awesome. I own a FZJ80 w/250,000 on the original engine, & a 2004 LX470 w/217,000 on the original engine. Both are still daily's - I'm getting ready to my sell 2016 4Runner and purchase a 2011 L.C with 118,000 on the odometer. This video you took the time to make, really helped ease some of my concerns on purchasing the 2011 b/c these 200's are still selling for serious coin now that they are being discontinued in the U.S. -So he got 414,000 miles out the original engine? How was the vehicle driving before you swapped engines, and how was it afterwards? - How much more complex is the 200 series engine to wrench on compared to the 80's & 100 series engine? - Do the service records show if the starter was ever replaced? If so, around what mileage. - Why does he regret, not rebuilding the original engine? Thanks
@VikingsGarage3 жыл бұрын
Wow lots of questions, will try to do my best to answer them all. Regrets due to now , not having original-engine.for kudos points I’m sure -starter was replaced around the engine replacement time frame. They are all fairly easy to wrench on, solid and reliable cars. Best bang for your buck, guaranteed. Yes the engine was replaced at 414k ( noisy valve train plus burning coolant thru the head gasket) Thank you for sharing your story. I hope this helps. I hope as well I found a subscriber in you. Good luck on your purchase.

Viking I apologize, I forgot to ask you when I originally left this comment. The 2011 w/118k miles I'm looking at, is a 2 owner cruiser, and it has had all the service work done at Toyota. They are wanting $35k for it. Does this sound priced accordingly if the pre-purchase inspection checkouts good? I just thought I'd ask an indy mechanic that works on L.C.'s instead of a dealership b/c the prices for these 200 series are all over the place now that Toyota has discontinued them in the U.S.

The lesser the engine cylinder its better. More cylinders means more moving parts which equals more wear and tear. Thats why you see 4 cylinder toyota corollas and camrys reach 500k to 1 million miles with the original engine and the transmission.
