Highland County Maple Syrup Festival in Virginia | Tour of Sugar Camps in 2022

The Highland County Maple Syrup Festival is an annual event in rural Virginia held on the second and third weekend of March since 1959. In this video, we share tips on the best farms to visit on your sugar camp tour, where to buy the tastiest maple syrup and show footage from a real old-fashioned sugar house where an owner of a local farm talks about the maple syrup production process while making maple syrup using the traditional kettle oven method.
Also, we show and explain the process of tapping maple tree sap using either the traditional bucket method or more modern tubing method. Among the farms that we show are Duff’s Sugar House, Puffenbarger’s Sugar Orchard, Tonoloway Farm and Back Creek Farms. While farms sell light amber color and dark color maple syrup, we specifically were on the hunt for a Grade B dark syrup for its deep rich flavor with hints of dulce de leche caramel.
