I love this series! I live nowhere near the Los Angeles area but it's cool seeing what lies beyond~

Sandy -- Strokes - Is This It is an excellent album and arguably their best. If you haven't picked it up already, be on the lookout for the Music On Vinyl (MOV) repress. It has the original UK/Euro art (censored in the USA). The MOV repress can be found for under $25 shipped from several US resellers on Discogs or for ~$30 at Amoeba.

The Jane Weaver album, the Silver Globe was my second favourite album of last year. La Roux's Trouble in Paradise was my favourite, in my opinion the best pop album in many years and the album packaging is stunning. Also nice Manuel Göettsching E2-E4 playing in the background of the second shop.

Odessa is a "lost" psychedelic masterpiece. Was that original Chocolate Watchband "Inner Mystique" on the wall at that second store? I saw lots of psych grails at both stores.

makes a lot of sense now that Gimme Gimme had moved. Had never been and was trying to find it last time I was in LA... Driving directions took me to the old address and I gave up frustrated and went at blew $200 at Amoeba instead...

great vid! And I need to know where you found that custom Blitzen Trapper record? which LA store had it?? (And did you buy it on its release day?)
@TooManyRecords9 жыл бұрын
+Gary King I snagged it at Rhino Records, just a bit outside of LA. No store in LA had it but I had a hunch it would be at Rhino, so I gave them a call... and they did!
@garyking18339 жыл бұрын
+Damnit Sandy nice! What made you think of Rhino? And why do you think they were lucky to get one? (amazing hunch lol) -- And I've never heard of it before so now it's on my list of "must visits"
@TooManyRecords9 жыл бұрын
+Gary King I thought of Rhino because it's a pretty giant store and has label association, so there's a good chance they'd get it. My first thought was Origami since they were lucky enough to get the De La Soul/J Dilla records last year (wasn't lucky enough to get that....)

+Matthew Cuarenta I've been a few times. He has some VERY rare stuff, but his prices are out of control high and it's not my favorite spot because of it.

So I get vinyl, but why do the stores offer cassettes? People still use those?
@TooManyRecords9 жыл бұрын
+Wood Ore Cassettes are back in style too! You may not get amazing sound from a Walkman or a tape player in your car, but the right set-up with a dedicated tape player and some good speakers can sound terrific.
@ehexlee29939 жыл бұрын
+Damnit Sandy AND I think it's less about fidelity (even though a small minority might argue differently) and more about analog sound, experiencing a full album (playing though a whole side), having a physical connection with music, the esoteric aspect of tapes, having an artifact from when it was released, or a combination of some/all the above. I would have put price as a consideration in that list. But while cassettes *used* to be a cheaper alternative collectible to vinyl, they now are close to on par price-wise They used to be $1-3 used and $5-7 new. Now they've become much more expensive. $10-15 used for many artists is not unusual, and new cassettes are regularly breaking the $10 barrier.
